Asus zenfone 2 laser competitors. Zen UI: useful services

It is a rare manufacturer that limits itself to releasing a new generation of smartphones in one or two modifications. Usually these are several devices at once, which focus on different parameters. Asus Zenfone 2 Laser is a phone for people who love taking photos. The main feature of the device lies precisely in its photographic capabilities, and they are described in more detail in the review of Asus Zenfone 2 Laser (ze500kl).

The characteristics of the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser are quite typical, and no one intended to surprise the user with them. The emphasis was on the photo; it was with this parameter that the phone was supposed to win the love of the public.

The model for its time has good memory reserve. At the time of the announcement, a device with 16Gb of memory was presented, a modification with 32Gb was released a little later. You can also install a 128Gb memory card; there is a separate slot for it.

Appearance

The Asus Zenfone 2 Laser ze500kl smartphone is a typical all-in-one with a plastic body and glass on the front panel. The cover is removable, you can change the battery, there are connectors for two SIM cards and a memory card. The front panel has 3 touch buttons below the screen. Above it is a speaker, Asus inscription, camera, proximity and light sensor.

There is a camera on the back panel. On either side of her there is a flash and laser focus eye. The volume button is located here, which, according to reviews, is not very convenient. There is a second speaker at the bottom of the rear panel. This is also not the most logical solution, since when listening to music the sound goes into the table, and the phone will have to be placed on the display.

The top end has a power button, a microphone, and a headset jack. Bottom – microUSB, speaker. The assembly is high quality, the back cover is convex, relief for metal. It not only has aesthetic value, but also makes the device non-slippery.

The Asus Zenfon 2 laser ze500kl display is created using IPS technology, there is an air gap. This makes the color rendering a little lame, although the colors themselves are quite natural, but not bright enough. The viewing angles are very high, there is no distortion. Display protected Durable 4th generation Gorilla Glass with a good oleophobic and anti-reflective layer. The sensor recognizes up to 10 clicks. Brightness is at an average level, sometimes it may not be enough. HD resolution is more than normal for a 5-inch screen, and no pixels are noticeable. The matrix is worthy of a phone from the middle price segment, there are no complaints about its performance.

Possibilities

The Asus Zenfone 2 Laser ze500kl phone runs on a cheaper processor than the usual two. It uses a chip from Intel; in this device, the manufacturer was Qualcomm. You can compare this device’s performance with the younger version of Zenfone 2 on a less powerful Intel processor. That is, the device is capable of playing games and running heavy tasks, but sometimes it is a little slow in them. You can avoid this by setting the settings to medium.

2 gigabytes of RAM was enough for a device released in 2015, as was the native memory of 16 gigabytes. Telephone average in performance, but in tests it takes last places with 20 thousand points. In general, this is not critical, since the phone is rated at real work, rather than performance in artificial tests.

Important! The model has two radio modules, that is, both SIM cards can work simultaneously. Navigation systems are not the fastest, requiring about 16 seconds to connect to satellites. Eat LTE support, as well as a dual Wi-Fi antenna.

The smartphone battery has a capacity of 2400 mAh; according to reviews, under average loads the device lasts up to two days. The indicator is very worthy. 5 hours of play took up only 40% of the battery, and you can watch videos for 12 hours. It’s difficult to say what affected the battery’s survivability, but most likely it’s energy efficient processor. In terms of autonomy, the phone gets a solid A+.

The Asus Zenfone 2 laser phone is a device with improved photography capabilities. The main camera has a resolution of 13 megapixels, the selfie module is 5 megapixels. At first glance, the indicators are not the best, but the whole point here is laser autofocus. It instantly finds the desired subject, selects the exposure, and the shutter response time after pressing the shoot key is calculated in seconds. It is important not to close the laser eye, which is located near the camera. The device takes excellent pictures at night.

Note! Interesting feature The device has a smart erase function. When the camera focuses on a subject, it automatically removes all unnecessary and moving objects that block the main subject.

Implemented in the phone many shooting options, from fully automated to manual professional settings. The device shoots video in FHD format. Shooting on front camera also gives good pictures, and there are no questions about it. The manufacturer promised good camera and made it.

Conclusion

Zenfone 2 Laser is a very interesting device with a low price. The price at the time of release was only 11 thousand rubles, and the camera here is better than in many expensive devices. The same can be said about autonomy. Perhaps the phone is not up to par in terms of performance, but such tasks were not assigned to it. If we add to these advantages a good design and matrix, it turns out great phone for little money.

ASUS is actively storming the smartphone market, regularly introducing interesting devices in different price ranges. Last year was no exception, when at the event the Taiwanese company expanded the ASUS ZenFone 2 line with three models: ASUS ZenFone 2 Deluxe, ASUS ZenFone Max and ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser. We received a younger model for testing with the “Laser” prefix, which focuses attention on its main feature- the presence of a camera with laser autofocus. By the way, the new product is available in several modifications at once. Solutions with the indexes “ZE500” and “ZE550” are built on a hardware platform Qualcomm Snapdragon 410, but differ in display diagonal - 5 and 5.5 inches, respectively. The ZE601 model is equipped with a 6-inch screen and boasts a more powerful Qualcomm processor Snapdragon 616. In addition, there are modifications with the suffixes “KL” and “KG”, which differ not only in the presence/absence of LTE, but also in different cameras and even batteries, which must be taken into account when choosing.

In this case, let's consider the most accessible version − ASUSZenFone 2 Laser(ZE500KG) − with a 5-inch screen, an 8 MP main camera and a 2070 mAh battery. What interesting things the device can offer - read on. First, let's move on to considering its characteristics:

Delivery and configuration

ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser comes in a compact box made of relatively thick cardboard. The design is made in a pleasant, restrained style and is characterized by minimalistic information content.

The delivery set is quite standard for available models and includes only the most necessary: documentation, charger and USB cable.

Appearance, arrangement of elements

All smartphones in the ASUS ZenFone line have a familiar and well-recognized design since the appearance of the first generation in 2014. ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser belongs to the second generation, distinctive feature Many devices have a volume rocker on the back (like previous LG G-series models). Otherwise, everything is the same as before: a candy bar with touch screen, rounded edges, concentric “Zen-circles” on the front panel and a back side that follows the curves of the palm.

There are as many as seven colors available to choose from, but the front panel is always black - only the replaceable back cover changes.

Dimensions and weight (143.7 x 71.5 x 3.5 ~ 10.5 mm and 140 g) of the device are slightly larger than we would like, including due to the not very thin side frames around the display (on the side - 4.5 mm, top - 13.5 mm, bottom - 19 mm). But they are quite comparable to other inexpensive 5-inch models. You can operate it with one hand, but long fingers won't hurt.

Most of the front panel of ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser is occupied by the screen. Above it there is a manufacturer's logo, a speaker, a camera, a set of sensors and an event indicator, and below there is the usual set of touch buttons, but without backlight. There is a small glossy edging along the contour of the glass, but it barely rises above the glass.

At the bottom there is a micro-USB port, and at the top there is a power key and a 3.5 mm audio port. The sides of the body are empty; There is only a protrusion for prying the back cover when removing it. Despite the poor placement of the power button, the situation is saved by the ability to unlock/lock the screen using a double tap.

The reverse side of the gadget is made in the form of a plastic removable panel with a pleasant, albeit easily soiled, soft-touch coating. All the most interesting elements are concentrated here: in the upper part there is the main camera lens (slightly recessed, which reduces the risk of scratching the lens) with a dual LED flash and a laser autofocus module. A little lower is a metal volume rocker with a proprietary notch. There is also a second ASUS logo here, and closer to the bottom edge there is a perforated area for the multimedia speaker. It is worth noting that you need to get used to the location of the volume rocker, but otherwise there are no major complaints. So, when watching a video, it is at a distance of the middle or ring finger, and when talking, the index finger lies exactly on it.

By removing the cover (there is a seal on the inside), access to a replaceable battery, slots for two Micro-SIM cards and a microSD memory card opens.

The build quality of the ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser is generally good. But our copy of the smartphone has already gone through many hands, which resulted in the appearance of creaks in the area where the cover is attached. The rigidity of the case is also good, but not ideal - the device gives in to torsion a little and the central part of the lid is pressed through (the foam seal should have been made a little thicker). Most likely, the commercial version will be devoid of these points.

Traditionally, you can purchase a stylish branded cover case with a window (View Flip Case), which will help maintain the original appearance of your device with a minimal increase in size.

The case window can display information from different applications (you can configure which ones) and provide quick access to them. You can immediately answer an incoming call, without having to open the flip.

Display

ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser has a 5-inch screen based on an IPS matrix with a resolution of 1280 x 720 and a pixel density of 293 ppi. The matrix is covered with durable mineral glass Corning Gorilla Glass 4 with a good oleophobic layer. Apparently, OGS technology is used (without an air gap between the matrix and glass). If you want to get your hands on a phablet, we recommend looking at the model with the index “ZE601” (6-inch Full HD IPS screen).

In any case, there are no problems with pixelation; the picture on the smartphone screen is quite detailed. The viewing angles are very wide (when viewed diagonally, the contrast drops slightly, which is absolutely not critical), the image pleases with pleasant colors. The brightness adjustment range is sufficient for comfortable work on a sunny day or in complete darkness, although the minimum value could be lower. The automation works quite adequately - without jerks or hitches.

Traditionally, there are settings for changing key screen parameters. Support for proprietary ZenMotion gesture control technology, well known from other models of the Taiwanese manufacturer, is also in place. The display supports up to ten simultaneous presses inclusive. There is a glove mode. Everything is functioning properly.

Audio subsystem

The tested smartphone is equipped with one multimedia speaker. It provides fairly loud sound and good frequency range(even some bass is present), which lacks detail. Its capabilities are quite sufficient for making calls, speakerphone, watching videos and playing games.

The delivery package of the new product does not include a headset, so the sound in the headphones was checked using in-ear Vivanco HS 200 WT (impedance 16 Ohms) and gaming headphones (impedance 60 Ohms). In the first case, the sound is quite good and loud, but there is a slight overkill with high frequencies, and in the second, the sound was weak and low. If necessary, you can adjust the audio quality thanks to several ready-made profiles and a five-band equalizer.

Additionally, there is a radio module for recording and listening to FM radio stations with connected headphones.

Camera

ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser has a main (8 MP with f/2.0 aperture and laser autofocus/rangefinder) and front (5 MP with f/2.8 aperture and fixed focus) cameras. The first can shoot video in 1080p resolution (720p with electronic stabilization), and the second can shoot video in 720p at 30 fps. Modifications with the index “ZE500KL” and higher have a 13 MP main camera module, like the ASUS ZenFone Selfie.

The main camera provides images with decent detail and pleasant color reproduction, although in some cases the automation overestimates the saturation, which, however, can be corrected manual settings. There is good macro photography, as well as good HDR. An interesting thing to remember is the “Super Resolution” mode, in which the image resolution increases to 32 megapixels, and the resulting image becomes a little more detailed. Laser autofocus works very quickly and accurately, but sometimes it does not want to focus on small objects. Additionally, it can be used to measure the distance to an object, but only up to 50 cm (Laser Rules application). The video is also quite colorful and detailed, but has mediocre sound.

The front camera pleases with a wide viewing angle and quite sufficient quality not only for video calls, but also for selfies (self-portraits). However, we recommend immediately turning off the “Portrait Enhancement” mode to get more realistic shots.

The camera's proprietary software has a well-designed interface and is characterized by fast operation and high functionality. The user has a variety of different modes and settings. In manual mode, you can adjust white balance, exposure value, ISO, shutter speed, focus with a histogram and virtual horizon displayed on the screen - amateurs full control filming process will be satisfied.

User Interface

ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser smartphone comes with pre-installed operating system Android system 5.0.2 Lollipop, which is complemented by the proprietary ZenUI 2.0.3 shell. For the most part, the OS is familiar to us. It is characterized by excellent functionality and wide personalization possibilities. You can read about it in more detail in the review. We will focus on the key changes and innovations. Thus, performance was improved, shortcomings in translations were corrected, and a menu was added quick search(swipe down the screen), preview themes, setting the size of application icons and so on.

As before, we have a lot of different pre-installed applications. It is worth noting that in our version of the smartphone (“ZE500KG”), out of 8 GB of internal memory, only 2.58 GB is available to the user, and after the first launch Google Play offers 62 updates and there's just not enough space. The ability to transfer applications to a memory card does not help either, since it is not available for all programs. And you can’t install it directly either, although there is such a function at the shell level. Therefore, we immediately recommend paying attention to the 16 GB version of the smartphone (“ZE500KL”).

The settings menu is made in light colors. Access to almost all parameters is open: communication capabilities, appearance, screen settings, sound effects, gesture control, etc.

Overall, the shell not only looks nice, but also demonstrates excellent responsiveness and smooth operation.

Productivity and communication capabilities

ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser is based on the budget Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 MSM8916 SoC with four ARM Cortex-A53 cores operating at up to 1.2 GHz. The built-in Qualcomm Adreno 306 core is responsible for the graphics. The amount of RAM is 2 GB. And to expand the memory, you can use microSD memory cards (up to 128 GB). This platform supports OTG mode(USB On-The-Go), so you can connect external USB devices to the device.

Despite the low results in benchmarks, the smartphone effortlessly copes with everyday mobile tasks - calls, robot with documents, surfing the Internet, listening to audio, watching videos, and so on. Game projects level Dead Trigger 2 and Asphalt 8: Airborne can be run on low or medium graphics settings. If you are an avid gamer, then you can look towards the model with the index “ZE601”, which is equipped with a more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor, or other solutions at the level of MediaTek MT6753/MT6752 and higher. During prolonged maximum load, the housing heats up slightly in the chamber area.

The built-in video player has good support modern audio and video formats, as evidenced by the results of the Antutu Video Tester benchmark.

The ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser smartphone supports modern 2G GSM and 3G WCDMA mobile networks. The operation of two SIM cards is implemented on the basis of one radio module. Everything is functioning properly. The speaker and microphone perform well. The vibration alert is average in strength.

Communication capabilities are represented by the most necessary modules: Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi. The latter has support for 802.11b/g/n protocols and is capable of operating only in the 2.4 GHz band.

When testing problems in the operation of modules wireless communication not noticed.

The navigation module is characterized by support for satellite GPS systems(A-GPS) and GLONASS. “Cold start” takes about 20-25 seconds.

Autonomous operation

The tested model has a replaceable lithium ion battery capacity of 2070 mAh, exactly the same as in . There are versions with a 2400 mAh battery. Under moderate load with 50% display brightness (calls, SMS, music, a little Internet) it will last for a day and a half battery life, but you will have to charge it every evening so as not to suddenly be left without communication.

As a result of watching HD video (MPEG-4 / AVC, MKV container, 4 Mbit/s stream), the device was discharged in 9 hours. A gaming simulation using Asphalt 8: Airborne drained the battery in 3.5 hours.

The estimated battery life according to the PCMark benchmark showed 7 hours 27 minutes, according to the Geekbench 3 test results - 5 hours 46 minutes, while the GFXBench benchmark gave a result of 438 minutes. In all cases (except for the gaming one), the display brightness was 50%, and the Wi-Fi modules and GPS.

The battery charging time from the supplied unit (5 V, 1 A) is about 2.5 hours.

Results

ASUSZenFone 2Laser(ZE500KG) - a worthy heir to the traditions of mobile Zen devices. The smartphone has inherited a well-recognized corporate design with a wide selection color range: from strictly business to bright youth. The device offers a high-quality 5-inch HD IPS display, decent modules digital cameras with extensive customization options and high-speed laser autofocus, support for two SIM cards and sufficient performance for comfortably performing everyday mobile tasks and running games at minimum and medium graphics settings. Deserves flattering reviews branded shell ZenUI, which is constantly improving and offers impressive capabilities.

But there were some unpleasant moments. These include the lack of built-in memory when updating all pre-installed applications and not the highest battery life. But this applies only to the basic modification with the index “ZE500KG”. Fortunately, you can find models on the market with 16 GB of internal memory, a 2400 mAh battery and, in addition, a 13 MP main camera. Avid gamers will like the most “charged” version based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 with a 6-inch screen and a 3000 mAh battery.

Separately, it is worth noting that for a similar amount on the domestic market you can find smartphones with a more powerful platform and compact body, but not all of them can be as balanced as older modifications. Also, do not forget about the official warranty and after-sales service provided by ASUS.

To summarize, I would like to say that ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser is very good - nice appearance, excellent functionality and fast operation. Everything a thrifty user needs.

The cover is removable, but removing it is not an easy task. You need to pry it with your fingernail in the recess provided by the manufacturer, then near the microUSB port, and only now can you open it with significant effort. It sits in its place efficiently, there are no backlashes even with strong pressure.

The keys have a clear stroke. Asus Zenfone 2 Laser ze500kg review showed that during a conversation, the finger rests clearly on the volume rocker, making it easy to make the interlocutor’s voice louder or quieter. But when you watch a video, the situation is completely different, you have to turn the body, adjust the volume, and then return it to the opposite position. Using the power button is not always convenient; it will be easier to remove the lock screen by double tapping.

Asus Zenfone 2 Laser phone received a 5-inch TFT IPS screen with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. An oleophobic coating of good quality is applied to its surface. Gorilla Glass 4 is used as protective glass. The brightness reserve is not enough - from 21 to 329 cd/m2, which makes it almost impossible to work in the sun. The pixel density is low - 294 ppi; when viewed closely, you can notice a slight graininess.

A capacitive sensor is used that supports up to 10 touches. Asus Zenfone 2 Laser ze601kl 32gb review showed that the sensitivity of the touchscreen is high, it clearly reacts even to light touches.

The manufacturer has provided several modes color temperature display and the ability to adjust contrast using Splendid software. This way you can improve an already high-quality picture.

Asus Zenfone 2 Laser performance

Asus Zenfone 2 Laser ze500kl specifications are built on a budget Snapdragon 410 chip paired with an Adreno 306 video accelerator. The processor is based on four Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency of up to 1.2 GHz. It immediately becomes clear that the device is clearly not designed for games. RAM is only 2 GB, and after switching on, no more than 900 MB remains free.

Synthetic test results for Asus Zenfone 2 Laser

The built-in storage can be 8 or 16 GB; of course, it is better to give preference to the latter modification. 8 GB is just a few movies; it would be simply unrealistic to do without a memory card, which, fortunately, can be installed to expand the volume. The younger version has so little memory that sometimes you can’t even install updates. The fact is that a lot of space is taken up by pre-installed applications, which can be deleted only after receiving Root rights.

The Asus Zenfone 2 Laser's performance showed itself very poorly in synthetic tests, which was to be expected. The gadget is clearly not for games; the power is only enough to perform everyday tasks, such as communicating in social networks, watching movies and web browsing.

Autonomy

Asus Zenfone 2 Laser 8gb review revealed excellent battery life, the manufacturer managed to squeeze the most out of the 2400 mAh battery. This is where the weak hardware makes itself felt, which consumes a little energy as you use the phone. So, an hour of photography consumes about 11% of the charge; when watching HD videos at maximum brightness from the device’s memory, the battery lasted for 12 hours. In games, we see no worse picture - after 5 hours of playing Asphalt 8 at medium brightness, there is still 60% of the charge left.

Wireless communications

Full Asus review Zenfone 2 Laserr ze500kl showed that the device received support for Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz b/g/n, Bluetooth 4th generation, as well as GPS. Satellites are quickly detected even without a connection to mobile networks. There is support for 3.5G networks.

Sound

The speaker works well, the voice is transmitted clearly and without distortion. The interlocutor will also be pleased to talk to you, which is facilitated by the high-quality work of the noise reduction system. The external speaker sounds loud, but the quality does not leave the best impression. It's not above average.

Interface

Asus Zenfone 2 Laser ze550kl 16gb review shows that out of the box it runs Android 5.1.1. with its own ZenUI shell. It is possible to flexibly customize the interface. You can hide apps, enable smart folder sorting, change the grid size, disable menus so everything is on the desktop, and much more. The system works smoothly and stably, for which we can say a huge thank you to the manufacturer.

Asus Zenfone 2 Laser camera review

The younger modification is equipped with an 8 MP main camera and a 5 MP front camera. In the older one, everything is a little better - 13 megapixels in the case of the main module. Asus Zenfone 2 Laser lte camera review showed that it can record video in FullHD quality.

The Camera application interface has a large number of modes and settings. There is also a night mode, which improves the quality of night shots, albeit slightly. Deserves special mention manual mode, where you can set white balance in the range from 2500K to 6500K, exposure parameters, ISO, shutter speed 1/1000 to 32s and focus.

Asus Zenfon 2 Laser review revealed that the smartphone uses laser focusing, which works quickly. But there is not much difference with phase focusing; it is more of a subtle marketing ploy. In general, the pictures are not bad, but only in price category apparatus. It cannot be compared with flagships.

Conclusion

The Asus Zenfone 2 Laser doesn't have the best hardware, so you shouldn't consider it as an inexpensive gaming device. But for the average user this will be enough - good time autonomy, high-quality, albeit not ideal, screen (low resolution and brightness reserve), user-friendly interface, good photographic opportunities. The disadvantages include a weak filling, because of which you can forget about the games.

Where to buy?

Your rating for the smartphone:

    - 2-SIM (the slot is not combined, i.e. you can put a memory card and two SIM cards);
    - 4 cores, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal memory, 4G support, Android 5.0.2;
    - Corning Gorilla Glass 4;
    - Works smoothly and quickly (no freezes);
    - Fast GPS;
    - Removable battery;
    - Very nice design;
    - I liked locking/unlocking with a double tap on the screen;
    - Enough good battery(I have 2400 mAh).
Flaws
    For me there are no shortcomings, unless, of course, you find fault with the little things.

    Well, if you find fault, here are some minor inconveniences:
    1. You can’t turn off the sound by turning it over incoming call and alarm clock;
    2. There is no backlighting of touch keys;
    3. Questionable convenience of the volume buttons on the rear panel, perhaps you just need to get used to it;
    4. Screen brightness is rather weak;
    5. Few accessories.

Comment

Overall, I'm more than satisfied with the device. I didn’t even expect to get such a device for such a price (I bought it for 11690). In my opinion, a very decent device.

For those who doubt it, take it boldly, you definitely won’t regret it.

By the way, I have already gotten used to the minor shortcomings that I described above and do not feel any particular discomfort. In general, the device is super and my rating is of course 5 points out of 5.

There were questions about a combined slot or not. So, for those who don’t know, the memory card is inserted just above the first SIM card, i.e. above the first SIM card and separately the second SIM card.

19 2

    1. Assembly without any complaints, good quality. No creaks or backlashes were noticed, everything fits tightly, there are no cracks.
    2. Regarding work: during the entire period of use, there was not a single freeze or unexpected reboot, the system runs smoothly, without brakes, the animations are also smooth and pleasing to the eye, in general I would like to note that Android L has come a long way from Android 4.x.x ( There used to be two tablets from Asus on Android 4.x.x). I should note that I don’t play games on my smartphone, but everything I need to use, social networks, office, maps, Internet applications - all this works without any brakes.
    To summarize, the hardware is quite tolerable, enough for a couple of years of use.
    3. Screen color rendition is good, but no more; compared to the NL820, Asus loses a little. But in the bright sun everything is readable, without any problems. Brightness settings: manual and automatic, there are color temperature presets: cold/neutral/warm. 5 inches is enough, the pixel density is good, no graininess was noticed. Gorilla Glass 4 costs, but I bought the protective glass for 180 rubles. and a book case for 300 rubles.
    4. Removable battery 2400 mAh. Its battery life lasts for a couple of days, with average use and average brightness (someone wrote that it lasts for 3-4 days with active use: tell me in more detail, I want that too). If you just use it without the Internet, but just as a dialer/SMS, it will last for 3 days or more.
    5. Communications everything is excellent here too, GPS satellites It's catchy, 4G works, 2 SIM cards (I use it, but only one slot, the second is unnecessary). The microphone is good, the speaker too, I can hear everyone, everyone can hear me.
    6. Memory RAM 2 GB, about a gigabyte free, 16 GB of its own, about 10 GB free, there is an expansion slot, there is a 16 GB class 10 card, I don’t experience any problems, applications are installed both on the card and in the memory.
    7. Camera I rarely take photographs, I can’t say anything objective here, read the characteristics, laser focus, a bunch of settings, I practically don’t use this.
    Here is actually a barrel of honey for
Flaws
    Still, there are, but they are not critical and relate mainly to ergonomics, most likely everyone has their own experience of use, some will agree with me, others will not.
    1. The body is easily soiled. Although it is covered with a pleasant SoftTouch layer, it is very easily soiled, fingerprints remain, and it begs the purchase of a case. Regarding the screen, the same thing, there is no oleophobic coating, it gets dirty with fingerprints, you have to think about purchasing glass or film. The proprietary concentric circles at the bottom under the touch navigation keys also become clogged with dust and dirt during operation and have to be cleaned special means for screens.
    2. Sound keys on the back for my taste, the solution is quite controversial, when you talk, it’s convenient, when you watch a video with the phone in a horizontal position, it’s not convenient. If they had done them classically on the side, it would have been better (again, in my opinion).
    3. Power off/lock key on top 50/50, to lock there is a double tap on the screen, which is convenient, but I turn the phone on/off very rarely, so it’s normal.
    4. The navigation keys are physical and are not backlit, but they do have vibration. At first it took a little getting used to in the dark, but the light comes from the screen, so you won’t get confused with 3 keys.

    That's all the shortcomings/nit-picking. There were no problems or glitches that directly affected the operation of the smartphone itself.

Comment

Experience using this smartphone since March 26, 2016. Replaced my outdated one Nokia Lumia 820 (by the way, also purchased from Citylink on July 26, 2013). The first thing I would like to note is that the price/quality/filling ratio is optimal. I bought it for 11,700 rubles. (NL820 in 2013 for 15,000 rubles) Compared to WP10, LolliPop was stupefied by the abundance of settings and customization of the smartphone; in Windows Mobile they are still rather meager (I speak as a WP10 user). Quite quickly I got used to this abundance, this is what was so lacking before.

As a result, I use an inexpensive (read budget), high-quality smartphone, on a modern OS (considering the rate of obsolescence of flagships and middling smartphones both in hardware and software, I don’t see the point of paying 40,000-60,000 rubles for a smart phone that will still become outdated, even if not in 2, but in 3 years for sure).
That's all, I hope this smart will serve faithfully for more than one year.

    1.4g
    2. quite powerful, although the processor and video are old
    3. The battery lasts about 24 hours
    4. The design is solid (I took the white version) in appearance I would like to give it 15-17 thousand.
    5. 2 gigs of RAM (about 500-600 MB is consumed by Asus garbage)
    6. developers of. They promised that there will be an update to Android 6.0
    (read more about these points below, I will outline these points in more detail there)
Flaws
    Many people write that there will be a lot of defects. For me, Citylink and marriage don’t go together, well, really, how much can you? For the sake of decency, they could send me at least 1 marriage, well, it’s very suspicious...)

1. I’ve never tried 4g, I even bought a SIM card separately, when I connected it my jaw almost dropped and I wondered why I need a computer now?) YouTube 720 loads on my phone, pages open in the browser much faster than on a computer, It's a shame.
2. The processor and video in the phone are not that top-end, I would call it below average, but by some miracle it plays asphalt 8, hearthstone fine, I like to play games and the first thing I did was install hundreds of them, well, absolutely no lags were detected I confidently give this phone “gaming” status.
It is impossible to force the phone to lag out of charge. If you don’t buy it for games, then forget about any lags or freezes; by definition, they cannot exist here.
3. If you only play hearthstone with 3g (since 4g is not really needed there), then I’ll say for sure, I was on pairs and lost all 4 pairs with breaks of about 20 minutes in total, it turns out that it takes 4 hours 40 minutes to charge dropped from 91% to 30% with backlighting at about 25%. The remaining 30 percent went to the Internet with 4g turned on. That is, the charge was enough for me for the whole full day, I didn’t have to give up the backlight, 25-30% brightness is enough for me. If you use it only for the Internet, as I tried, then it will definitely be enough for 1.5 days, with a backlight of 25-30%.
4. Absolutely no complaints about the appearance, everything is done neatly and beautifully, no complaints. Regarding the lack of illumination of the lower buttons and the rear swing, these points did not cause any discomfort for me, I immediately got used to it.
5. 2 gigs are still unnecessary, fill them to the maximum for real use everyday life It won't work, but you have to try :)
I was choosing between Honor 4c and this one, I still advise you to take this one, well, there are too many pros, and you also need to look for the cons.
I think it should cost more and soon Asus will understand this, so hurry up)

    It’s difficult to talk about the advantages of this device as such; I didn’t find them for myself. No, this does not mean that the device is bad, on the contrary, I was quite pleased with it. The only positive thing I would say is that Asus, in this price segment, is trying to create a more or less glitch-free and easy-to-use device, as well as the lack of headphones and recording of phone calls.
Flaws
    I'll nitpick:
    - The volume button is located on the back of the phone. I understand that in pursuit of buyers, designers are trying to uniqueize the product, I don’t know how successful they were, I didn’t like this option, especially when you have to adjust the volume by installing the phone in a car holder.
    - the home\back\settings touch keys are not backlit, in dark time it's hard to hit with your finger
    - the ON key is placed exactly in the middle of the end and next to the hole for headphones, it is not comfortable to rest your finger when turning the screen on/off
    - there are no stereo speakers (at the bottom, on the back side), and the volume is rather weak; in a car, when you turn on the speakerphone on your phone, you will have to lean forward to hear the interlocutor and ask him to speak louder.
    - camera, what can I say, it's a shitty camera. With manual tweaks you can make it work faster.
    - the performance of the Android OS interface again, we can’t say that it’s slow, but it’s right on the edge, which affects the perception of the device as fast. Perhaps it’s not even the hardware, but the OS tweaks from the manufacturer
    - as usual, a bunch of uninstallable shitty software from the manufacturer, which in principle is not such a problem and can be solved, but nevertheless it is annoying from phone to phone
    - screen backlight in the sun it is almost invisible at maximum brightness, in the dark a couple of three steps of minimum backlight are not enough so as not to hurt the eyes
    - give me a link to the case\bumper\film? no, probably not yet

Damn, it's been a long time since I picked up a mid-range device. Either I’m lucky, or I deliberately choose extremes for myself, but I tested smartphones that were either as close as possible to flagships, or budget ones that had holes in my pockets. Therefore, I looked with interest at ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser - what is it, why is it called that and what is it eaten with.

The reason for my dislike for the middle class is that most models in this segment are equipped with a couple of luxury features, but this comes at the expense of other features, and sometimes even leads to the appearance of budget components in the filling. Laser almost crosses the line of my dislike, but also charms at the same time. Now I’ll explain why exactly.

Zenfone 2 Laser is a camera phone and also a stylish accessory. And also - a smart and software-rich device. It looks lovely, with subtle concentric circles as a design element. It feels good on your fingers, your eyes notice the play of light, and the surface doesn’t get dirty. If we compare the dimensions of the smartphone with my G2, the Laser turns out to be a couple of millimeters larger, and this despite the fact that its screen diagonal is 0.2 inches smaller. Fluctuations in size, as I understand it, are associated with the presence of touch keys at the bottom of the display (for me they are called by swiping).

On the back, the Laser boasts an 8-megapixel camera, a flash and a laser focusing unit, and together with the volume swing, all four units form a kind of “T” shape. The swing, by the way, is very close to me, since at one time it became the final reason to buy the D802. Unfortunately, the power button was not on it, but on top, next to the mini-jack.

Now - by ASUS specifications Zenfone 2 Laser. And they are like this:

  • Full name: ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser ZE500KL
  • Platform: Android™ 5.0
  • Dimensions (mm): 143.7 x 71.5 x 3.5
  • Weight with battery: 140 g
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 410
  • Video core: Adreno 306
  • RAM: 2GB
  • Built-in memory: 8GB
  • Memory card: micro-SD, up to 128 GB
  • SIM cards: Micro-SIM, two pieces
  • Communication support: 2G/3G/4G
  • Bluetooth: V4.0, EDR, A2DP
  • Wi-Fi: WLAN 802.11, b/g/n
  • Communication connector: USB 2.0
  • Navigation: GPS, GLONASS, AGPS & BDS
  • Display protection: Corning® Gorilla® Glass 4
  • Display: IPS
  • Resolution: 1280x720 pixels
  • Display diagonal: 5 inches exactly
  • Battery: 2400 mAh
  • Main camera: 8 megapixels, PixelMaster, wide-angle lens
  • Autofocus: laser, 0.03 seconds
  • Flash: LED
  • Front camera: 5 megapixels, PixelMaster, wide-angle lens
  • Audio: 3.5mm
  • Sensors: Electronic Compass/Light Sensor/Hall Sensor/Proximity Sensor/Accelerometer

As you can see, the insides of the smartphone are not excellent. The battery is sufficient for work, the screen is not Full-HD, although it is IPS, and the diagonal is good, and there is an oleophobic coating, and Gorilla Glass 4. Internal memory catastrophically small (out of 8 gigabytes is free, just don’t rust, 3 with a tail), but that’s why the MicroSD slot exists... Communication is at the level - Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G/4G, Dual Stand mode, but there is no NFC. The 2 GB RAM is pleasing, there’s nothing to say here. The Internet speed is also at the same level (I compare it with the LG G2, again).

Even in my last ASUS test, I wasn’t really able to use the proprietary ZenUI features... Oh, yes, I forgot to warn you, Laser has this shell. Well, this time I played to the fullest, and was as satisfied as an elephant in a sea of peanuts. Like G2, the hero of the article can wake up with a double tap, but thanks to ZenMotion you can draw different symbols on the locked screen. And the phone will respond to them.

I drew “C” and the camera opened. I drew five more letters and five more applications opened. This whole thing is customizable, and applies not only to standard programs, but also on loaded ones. By the way, this feature works surprisingly instantly; the same camera is ready for use in less than a second. I admit, I have never seen such speed even in Formula 1. And even more so, my G2 cannot boast of it.

This fact surprised me very, very much, and I can only praise the optimization of ZenUI. The Laser's hardware is rather weak. Due to the lower resolution in games, there is an increase in performance (I, for example, was surprised that Modern Combat 5 ran without any special freezes), but this is largely due to optimization, and partly visual effects disappeared somewhere. In games like Angry Birds 2, the action is slightly slower.

From a technical point of view, it’s not entirely correct to compare the Laser with the G2, but since I’m already looking for a replacement for my old flagship, I’ll do it anyway. If we talk about the pure filling and price range, then the closest relative of the D802 in terms of internals, which is still produced - Sony Xperia Z1 costs about 20 thousand rubles. Laser costs 11 thousand rubles, and predictably shows lower results.

But the camera is quite good. Not only does laser autofocus really focus in a fraction of a second, it also automatic setting regime allows you to eat! Well, like automatic... If it’s dark, the smartphone will offer to turn on low-light mode; if the photo turns out to be dim or too bright, the automatic HDR setting will carry out post-processing. The system is simplified, but it works with a bang, due to which there is no need to install additional programs. Additional modes, like creating GIF animation, also make you smile - you can play with the camera for a long time and productively.

The only thing I really didn’t like about the ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser was the insignificant amount of built-in memory. The insides were a little disappointing; I wasn’t pleased with the lack of the usual gallery, as well as a music player - Play Music doesn’t count. Fortunately, I realized in time what the hero of the article was. This is a stylish camera phone, youthful and attractive in design. I won’t judge a fish by its ability to draw graffiti, so I recommend this little miracle to all those who like to take pictures and show off. And you can also play 2Dots - stylish and exciting, after all.
