How to fly in a no-fly zone. Where you can’t fly a quadcopter in Russia

First of all, we warn you that in the large cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg a network of jammers is being systematically installed, where you have flown before, the situation on the air may change at any moment. It is better not to fly in the city center at all, check the location of the intended flight on the map of prohibited areas http://fpln.ru and on the map http://wikimapia.org

This algorithm will only reduce the likelihood of not losing the drone in the interference zone!

1. If there is a tracker/beacon, activate it. And don’t forget to put your phone number in a visible place on the drone.
2. Set the correct return altitude above the highest point in the flight area
3. We exhibit RTH mode Landing
4. We take off strictly above ourselves and carefully look at all the warnings on the screen. If we plan to fly at an altitude of 50 meters, we fly up 2 times higher for reconnaissance, then descend.
5. If there are no warnings, then switch RTH to return-to-home. We use the hover mode only where there is a chance of flying behind some very tall building or tower (TV tower, skyscraper, etc.) and where there is no chance of jamming the GPS signal.
6. If at a certain altitude a wave of warnings about magnetic interference begins, automatic transition to atti, and the ru signal disappears - we land immediately.
7. We fly strictly within line of sight, constantly monitoring messages and warnings.
8. If messages appear far enough away, the first thing we do is descend to the lowest possible altitude and fly towards the Home point. We carefully look at the messages and quality of the ru. Sometimes it’s better to hover, set the rth hover and approach the drone yourself, rather than fly into the danger zone again.
9. In large cities, we do not use the RTH button; we bring the drone to the Home point only manually, using the map, using landmarks.
10. We never go on flights with a discharged remote control or smartphone.

In any danger, we run after the drone, we are not shy.

On windy days and in especially stormy places, we carry out preliminary reconnaissance of the wind speed and direction at the working altitude:
— flew up above ourselves to a working altitude, hovered for 5-10 seconds, and landed. We synchronized with a paid account on airdata.com and got an accurate picture of what was happening.”

P.s. Colleagues of our forum are trying to draw up a map of dangerous zones on their own. We have no desire to go against the special services and fly to spite someone. All the problems for a copter operator in a large city are due to ignorance of where strategic objects are among the houses, and from a craving for beauty, for architecture, for a bird’s eye view of this beauty...

Pps As a nonsense: if you still really need to take a photo on Instagram, but somewhere nearby there is a jammer that sometimes works, but doesn’t, you can take the risk of flying up, after having tied the drone to the fishing line of a spinning rod. And be sure to hang a weight on the fishing line, about a meter and a half from the drone :)

Friends! Before continuing to get acquainted with the proposed topic, we simply must remind you that any product that comes off the assembly line of any manufacturer must meet certain standards and norms. In the case of drones, these standards and regulations, among other things, also include future safety, which, for obvious reasons, ultimately significantly limits the maximum potential of the drone. Remember, safety comes first!

Introduction

Not long ago in global network The Internet has appeared the resource “coptersafe.com”, which offers a wide range of software thanks to which your Phantom 4 (Pro/Adv), Phantom 3, Inspire 2, Ronin, Mavic Pro will fly faster, higher and without restrictions “No-Fly Zones” . Besides the fact that software is largely considered illegal, and not everyone will be able to buy it, since any of the proposed upgrades cost several hundred dollars. We suggest taking a look at one of the results of such a firmware update:

In turn, this resource links to another SkyHack.ru, which offers a wide range of services for repair, maintenance and modification at the software and technical level of such drones as: Phantom 4 (Pro / Adv), Phantom 3, Inspire 2, Ronin, Mavic Pro.

Assortment

The range of upgrades is wide, for example you can increase the lift speed of your Mavic Pro from 10km/h to 35km/h. The same mod will allow the drone to descend faster. Impressive isn't it! Or, for example, another mod that allows the drone to rise above 500 meters. The software also resolves the issue with “No-Fly” zones.

There is also an equally interesting proposal that allows you to install a FLIR thermal imaging camera on a drone and transmit from it high quality image via FullHD link. An excellent alternative to the expensive Zenmuse XT, which DJI offers for the Inspire 1 series.

You can also install cameras such as Flir Duo or Flir Vue on Phantom 3.

Prices

The price range, depending on the task of modernization, ranges from $200-1400. For example, the “Super Sport” mode for Mavic and Phantom 4 Pro/Adv drones will cost the consumer $200 (increases the overall speed of your drone in Sport/Atti modes).

CopterSafe warns:“When using Super Sport mode, do not unnecessarily overload the drone's power with crazy flights. Be careful!

Conclusion

What can you say about this? On the one hand, the CopterSafe software poses a threat to public safety, on the other, it allows you to unlock the true potential of the drone. DJI has already touched on the topic of changing such settings for drones of its own production: “Disabling restrictions can lead to unpredictable consequences that may arise during operation.” Therefore, the purchase of software of this kind, with all its number of advantages, will also connect the owner with a number of serious risks. Before using this software, think about whether it is really necessary.

Which are being introduced in Ukraine regarding drone flights. In this article, we would like to offer several map options that will help you plan in advance where it is allowed to fly, and where it is better to request permission or refuse to fly at all.

1. DJI No Fly Zone Map.

Zone map from DJI. Shows the place where the copter simply will not take off. If you try to fly into the “no fly zone” from outside, the quadcopter will simply stop. These zones are updated in the DJI GO4 app.

2. Map of restricted areas from the State Aviation Service of Ukraine.

It marks the areas in which you must obtain permission to fly.

To obtain permission, you need to apply with a letter in any form on a one-time application to the Ukraerocenter 10 working days in advance by phone: +380 44 351 59 92 (24 hours a day), or [email protected]»

3. Airmap

Enough good map with restricted flight zones around the world. It already contains information from the State Aviation Service of Ukraine and, in addition, has additional designations for a specific zone.

We recommend planning your flights in advance and studying the area so that unforeseen situations do not arise.

Probably, many DJI users have encountered the problem that in some places in our country (and other countries too) there is a flight ban. Unfortunately, the no-fly zone often covers areas where quite interesting objects are located - architectural monuments, cathedrals, parks, etc., which are located near airfields and stadiums.

A terrible incident from my experience

Soon after New Year's holidays I ended up in Voronezh. I decided to fly, although it is not recommended to fly in such cold weather. One object interested me - the “Accordion House”; anyone who knows their way around the city knows it. In general, there is nothing remarkable from below in this Soviet building, but if you look from above, the picture is very promising.

Having decided to see for myself what this building looks like from above, I quickly take out the copter, insert a warm battery and prepare it for flight. It is worth noting that I stood between two 4-5 storey buildings. Considering that the temperature outside is -22C, I do everything in a hurry. Therefore, I didn’t wait until the compass was set up and the device connected to the satellites and could remember the point at home.

I have never allowed such sloppiness before and I don’t advise you to, but let’s get to the point. Takeoff, the copter, not seeing satellites behind the houses, rises to about 50 meters and takes several frames. And here the fun begins: having picked up satellites, the device determines its location on the ground and reports that it is in the No Fly Zone.

Then it flashed red and began to fall rapidly, and sharply vertically. Doesn't respond at all to the right stick. When it descended below the buildings, the satellites disappeared again, but the copter continued to descend. At the same time, the wind begins to blow it away. It's good that there was an open area. I just went up and took it, although I was terribly nervous. It's good that we managed to take a few shots.

While all this was happening, the map was loaded. As a result, I saw the following:

The object I chose was located on the border of the no-fly zone surrounding the stadium, which did not interest me at all. Due to the same no-fly zone, I was unable to fly over the magnificent temple. I didn’t even try, I didn’t want to take any more risks, especially in such cold weather.

The no-fly zone over the entire capital is a reality

Why am I telling you about this? A system was announced quite a long time ago, the development of which was carried out jointly with Airmap. This system provides those who have the right to fly in such areas (or really want to get it) the opportunity to temporarily cancel the No Fly Zone. You only need to provide information about yourself, for which a bank card or phone number is verified. Previously, there was no need for this in Russia, since the system is not yet operational here.

Not long ago, rumors began to actively spread on the Internet that flights over Moscow were completely prohibited. Many regarded them as fiction and photoshop. But, this is reality. Although the average user has not yet encountered this widespread ban. Many people are familiar with this picture:

This effect can be achieved if you have beta firmware V01.07.0043 installed on Phantom 3 adv/pro or Inspire 1 or V01.04.00.63 on Inspire Pro. In addition to this, on Android smartphone The beta version of the DJI Go app must be installed. To do this, you need to download in advance APK file. Those users who install applications via Play Market and firmware from the DJI update section, they will not be able to see this picture.

Testing the system

Inspired by this image, I decided to try out the system myself. You can see how everything functions on the DJI.com website by going to the “Geo System” section (the link to it is located “in the basement”). Then click on the “Advance Unlocking” link.

Next, select the location of the future flight. Russia, as I managed to figure out, is completely banned and there are no points where you can check the cancellation. That's why we choose the USA. There's plenty of room for experimentation. In theory, red indicates areas where it is impossible to lift the ban at all, orange – flights are generally prohibited, but lifting the ban is possible, yellow – flights without authorization are allowed, but you need to be careful, green – no restrictions.

  1. Click on the corresponding point.
  1. The name of this place appears below.
  1. Then you need to enter the flight start date.
  1. Entering the serial number.

It is worth paying attention to several points. Firstly, the permit is granted for two days and on the third day it will be canceled. I’m a little confused about what to do if there is no Internet coverage at the point of flight. Probably in this case it is necessary to take care of permission to fly in advance. And then launch the smartphone and the update program. Second point, the serial number has nothing to do with serial number apparatus. This data must be found directly in the program; it is visible when the remote control and the copter are turned on. Maybe, we're talking about about some kind of duplicate account number or something similar. It is not entirely clear what to do if several devices are linked to an account. It is possible that you will have to use different tablets and phones.

Then we select a method of identity verification. I think, bank card fits better everything.

All that remains is to enter all necessary information on the map.

Well, finally. Activation confirmed.

Let's check what we received. To do this, you should personal account select the “My unlocking plans” menu.

Let's do one more check. To do this, you need to open the DJI Go application and go to your personal data, here select My Inlock NFZ Application. In the menu that opens, we can see a list of allowed zones.

In principle, that's all. The system as a whole is functioning. It was not possible to obtain answers to many questions. But this is not relevant yet; this system does not yet work in Russia.
