Lesson: Scrolling screenshot. How to take a screenshot of an entire page in a browser? Screenshot of the entire page online

Let's screenshot the entire page

I just talked about it in the previous article and realized that we need another screenshot that would take a snapshot of the entire site page (including what is visible only when scrolling). I didn’t even think that the topic of screenshots would be enough for 2 articles

Suitable add-on for Chrome based browsers (Yandex.Browser, Google Chrome...) again found here https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions?hl=ru. This time it’s Nimbus Screenshot and Screencast - in general, it turned out to be a very sophisticated thing, it even shoots video.

After this, the contents of the browser window will scroll from bottom to top and you will be transferred to the editor, where you can make inscriptions on the picture, draw lines, etc. Super-powerful editor:

After finishing editing, click “Done” and then the picture can be saved to a certain Nimbus Note, in, on your PC or printed.

Using this add-on, you can take a screenshot not only of the browser contents, but of the entire window. And also record a video (select “Record video”). I was surprised, but the video is actually recorded, and quite well.

You can also edit any pictures or draw something - to do this, you must first install this, and then select “Blank Slate” in the extension menu:

A program for taking screenshots (image capture) of the entire screen, individual windows and any areas thereof.

It allows you to do snapshot of the active window or the entire screen to choose from. Also possible capturing a window and then scrolling it. Available easy editing(changing the size of the picture, rotating / reflecting it, cutting out fragments, changing the color depth, etc.). Able to work with basic graphic file formats: *.bmp, *.gif, *.jpg, *jp2, *.j2k, *.pcx, *.png, *.ppm, *.tga, *.tiff, *.pdf.

The program is lightweight, weighs about 1.5 MB, and looks like a small rectangle on the screen:

It folds into the tray and can be taken out with one click. Russified.

All main functions are accessible using hotkeys, which is especially useful for people who often take screenshots. The editor also provides control using hotkeys, which roughly correspond to the hotkeys in Word.

Key Features of FastStone Screen Capture

- screenshot of the active window (Shift+PrtSc) - only the top working window.

Example: active window – Internet Explorer.

- screenshot of a separate window area (Alt+PrtSc) – capturing some standard, already selected part of a running window (for example, the address bar in a browser). The selected area is highlighted in red, and a screenshot is taken by clicking the mouse.

Example 1: The selected area is the content of Internet Explorer.

Example 2: The selected area is the address bar.

Screenshot of a rectangular area (Ctrl + PrtSc) – captures any rectangle selected with the mouse and places it in a file. At the same time, a magnifying glass appears in the corner of the screen, and you can cut out the desired piece with pixel accuracy.

Example: the highlighted area is a description of the concept of “screenshot”.

- screenshot of a custom area (Shift + Ctrl + PrtSc) – capture any area selected with the mouse and place it in a file. At the same time, a magnifying glass appears in the corner of the screen, and you can cut out the desired piece with pixel accuracy. After highlighting the required area, press Enter.

Example: a randomly selected area - the desktop.

- full screenshot (PrtSc) – capture the entire screen, replacing the standard function.

Example: desktop.

- screenshot of a scrolling window (Ctrl+Alt+PrtSc) – captures the entire contents of a running window, not just what is visible on the screen.

Example: A screenshot of the entire browser content from the first example.

- opening a file– opening any of the above file formats for subsequent processing in a graphic editor.

- magnifying glass– a regular screen magnifier that allows you to take a closer look at the contents of the screen (control with the right mouse button, exit by left click or Esc key).

- pipette– captures the color of a selected area of the screen, similar to the eyedropper in any other graphic editor.

Additional features – graphic editor

With it you can:

- select the desired piece of rectangular, round or arbitrary shape in the drawing; it can be trimmed, cut, copied and then pasted somewhere else. The corresponding commands are selected on the top panel.

You can apply all the functions of working with a picture to the selected piece, which will be discussed below. By right-clicking on it, you can save it to a separate file, print it, enlarge it, find out its size, or simply delete it. In addition, there is such a useful option as “Invert Selection”: You work with the entire picture, excluding the selected part.

The selection can be removed by simply clicking on the background or in the menu that appears by clicking the right mouse button.

- enlarge/reduce picture or set it to the desired scale. This is done by clicking on the corresponding buttons on the panel at the top or simply by scrolling the mouse wheel.

- set the desired size of the picture in pixels. Moreover, it is enough to change only the width or height - the second parameter will be selected proportionally by the program itself.

- insert text into picture. When you click on the corresponding button on the panel at the top, a window similar to standard Paint opens.

Its functions:

  • insert text;
  • insertion of lines (straight and curved);
  • insertion of shapes (only outline or completely filled);
  • highlighting with a marker an arbitrary part of the picture in the shape of a rectangle;
  • inserting a watermark: another design is superimposed on the first one in such a way that the first one shines through;
  • All colors and sizes change, all formatting done can be deleted.

- send drawing by e-mail using an email program installed on your computer. Before sending, you will be able to select the image format and rename it.

- print the drawing. You can select the size of the margins, the design and its position on the sheet of paper, as well as view the settings of the printer itself.

Finally, you can close the drawing without saving. Using the button " Edit» on the very top panel you can slightly work with the colors of the picture or its selected segment. The following options are available:

- rotate the picture clockwise or counterclockwise; its mirror image horizontally or vertically;

- resize canvas(that is, the area you are working with), and you can set it in pixels, determine the position of the picture on it, select the background color that will appear if you enlarge the picture;

Changing the " Brightness Contrast Gamma"(determines how dark or light the pattern will be, how different the colors will be);

Changing the " Hue Saturation Lightness"(determines how the color/tone of the picture can be changed (based on the negative principle), its color saturation and the degree of illumination);

- change RGB level(saturation of the picture in red, green or blue);

Changing the " Sharpness/Blur"(determines how clear the drawing will be);

Function " Shades of Gray"(the picture becomes black and white);

Function " Sepia"(the picture turns brown);

Function " Negative"(the drawing becomes a negative).

Program settings

  • the ability to place a file in the Editor, to the clipboard, immediately save it without editing, or print it;
  • the ability to start with Windows (minimizing or not minimizing to tray);
  • the ability to include or not include the mouse pointer in the screenshot;
  • ability to show magnifying glass and eyedropper on the main panel;
  • it is possible to customize the “X” button, all hot keys on the main panel, file name template, screen magnifier and file resolution;
  • the ability to take a screenshot not immediately, but with some delay;
  • ability to turn off sounds.

The FastStone Screen Capture program interface is simple, intuitive and looks nice (even 4 types of covers for the main panel are available). Most functions are duplicated using hotkeys, which makes work easier.

Many settings will allow tailor the program to the needs of a specific user as much as possible. Thanks to the built-in editor, it can also be used for fast image processing. The program is free for home use.

P.S. Also try the wonderful FastStone Image Viewer program to view the created screenshots and any other images:

It would seem that a screenshot of the screen - what could be simpler? But what if you need to save not only the part visible on the monitor, but the full page of the site, scrolling to the very bottom? Or take a picture of a page from Word, but the page just doesn’t fit on the monitor screen? And even more so if there are several of these pages. For example, some important agreement. What to do then? There is no way to get by with standard ones! This is what we will talk about now.

I'll start the article with a short introduction for novice users. About Which methods are best to use for taking screenshots: online or offline?. If you have already decided on this issue, then you can immediately move on to ready-made solutions. The article describes several working options. There are very good ones, and also those that are simply not worth wasting time on.

I periodically check the quality of work of each resource.

Offline programs:

Online services:

When you need a screenshot of an entire page, which method should you choose: online or offline?

Let me just give the pros and cons of these and other methods, and it will be easier for you to choose what to use when creating a screenshot in principle.

Online services for creating a screenshot of an entire website page

Pros:

  • No additional software installation required.
  • Services are available from any device.

Cons:

  • Online services may not be available due to technical reasons. For their technical reasons, as a rule. I've encountered this several times.
  • Poor quality of the final work result. This is explained by the fact that most of the services are either shareware or poorly supported by their developers.
  • Applicable only to website pages. For example, it is no longer possible to take a screenshot of a multi-page Word document.

Offline programs for creating a screenshot of a full page

Pros:

  • You can take not only a screenshot of a website page, but also a screenshot of any long page or multi-page document. This applies to documents Word-like text editors, spreadsheets like Excel, PDF-files.
  • Built-in editing capabilities of the resulting image.
  • Data security control. Confidentiality is maintained when scanning documents. You do not upload the document to a third-party service.
  • Supports a large number of formats for saving the resulting file.

Cons:

  • The need to install additional software.

Screenshot of the entire website page in the program FastStone

Program FastStone Capture(Windows only) which I will tell you about is distributed under the following conditions: You can freely use (test) the program for a 30-day continuous period after downloading (installing) it. After 30 days, you must either purchase a license to use the program on the developer’s website, or immediately delete it. Information about the terms of use is available on the website at http://www.faststone.org/order.htmand

FastStone MaxView are shareware. You may try the software free for 30 days. Once this 30-day period has expired, you must either purchase a license to use it, or uninstall it from your computer promptly.

To install, download the program FastStone Capture can be found on the official website: http://www.faststone.org/FSCapturerDownload.htm

Open FastStone by double clicking on the shortcut or from the list of installed programs. In this case, a small program menu will appear on your desktop screen. Here it is enlarged. You can drag the menu to any part of the screen. It will be displayed on top of any windows until you force close it by clicking on the cross at the top right.

To take a screenshot of a full web page, click the “Scrolling Window Capture” icon in the menu.

The program will automatically “highlight” the intended scanning area and prompt you to select a scrolling option. This window will appear in the lower right corner of the selected area.

Select “Autoscroll” and the program will do everything itself right before your eyes. After scanning the entire site page, the created screenshot will automatically open in the program editor.

The editor is small but convenient. It offers cropping, resizing and some effects: watermark, frame, torn edge of the picture, color change, and some effects.

I made a short video in which I took a screenshot of one of the pages of this site, an article. And here is a link to the picture itself, which turned out in the end: sample of the resulting screenshot.

It is not for nothing that they say that it is better to see once than to hear a hundred times.

Screenshot of the entire website page in the program PicPick

PicPick is located at: http://ngwin.com/picpick. Completely free, at least for non-commercial (home) use. Downloading and installing the program is very simple. You can do it without difficulty.

  • Open PicPick, or if the program is currently open, click "File" in the top left corner of the main menu.

  • From the list of suggested tasks, select Scrolling Window.

A small screen capture menu will appear in front of you, it looks like this. The "Capture Scrolling Window" button is already pressed, no need to press it again.

  • Now, click with the mouse on the area that needs to be scanned, for example, on the website page of which you want to take a screenshot (anywhere on the page). The area will be highlighted with a frame, and the words “Autoscroll” will appear in the upper left corner of this frame.
  • Click on this inscription. The program itself will take care of everything. She will lazily scroll to the very end of the page. As a result, you will receive a full screenshot of the site page.

You can crop the resulting image directly in PicPick. Also see on our website.

PicPick is an excellent workhorse for taking a screenshot of a full website page. Multifunctional screen capture, clear image editor menu, color selection, color palette, adding text, arrows, shapes, pixel ruler, protractor, shadows, frames, watermarks, mosaic, blur, brightness adjustment, zoom and much more.

Cons:

  • For Word, Excel, PDF documents, the program takes a screenshot of only the visible part of the screen.

Pros:

  • The built-in editor is quite multifunctional. It deserves a separate article, but in this one you will have to limit yourself to a few screenshots of the working menu. I would also like to note the possibility of applying watermark in the screenshot, and the process can be automated.
  • Automatic scanning of a full website page.
  • Several formats are available for saving a screenshot: PNG, JPEG, BMP, GIF, PDF. True, the program, although it saves files in PDF format, does not know how to open them in it. So, if you use it as an editor, then for PDF images you will first need to convert them to JPEG.

Result:

  • I recommend it.

As a short presentation, I propose to evaluate the program’s working menu in general terms. Of course, many of the buttons on this menu hide submenu lists. To tell in detail, you will have to write a real operating manual. But this is a topic for another article.

Here is another interesting option that can be useful when scanning a website page or document containing small fragments. This is a “magnifying glass” in the shape of an ellipse, a circle, with the help of which small details can easily be made large right on the screenshot.

Service S-shot.ru

Located at: https://www.s-shot.ru/

Don't forget to check the "full size" checkbox. When it is checked, scanning is done from the entire page; when unchecked, only from the part that is visible on the monitor. The service interface looks like this:

Cons:

  • Quantitative restrictions on free use. Up to 100 pictures per day and up to 1000 per month (from one IP address).

Pros:

Result:

  • Quite a working option.

Online service Snapito

Located at: https://snapito.com/

A good solution when you need to quickly make a copy of a website page and save it in JPEG format. The service also claims to convert to PDF, but several attempts I made to save the image in this format were unsuccessful. I had to do some additional image processing. It is also impossible to take a screenshot of a Word or Excel document using this service “without intermediaries.” That is, in principle, this is possible if you place a Word file on the Internet, upload its contents to Google Docs, configure access rights to the resulting page (I did full access), and then paste the link to this page into the appropriate input field on the Snapito website .com. But why such difficulties when the offline program described above can do everything easily and simply.

Cons:

  • Takes a screenshot in JPG format only.

Pros:

  • High-quality work without scanning failures.
  • Adjusting the size of the future screenshot before scanning.

Result:

  • Quite a working option.

Screenshotmachine service

Located at: https://www.screenshotmachine.com/index.php

Despite the promised “full length screenshot”, no full length could be achieved from this service. Registration on the site also did not lead to anything.

Cons:

  • Takes a screenshot of only the visible part of the screen! Doesn't make a copy of the entire page. And this despite the declared functionality and the presence of a paid version! This error in operation was recorded on May 28, 2018. Perhaps the situation will change, but today I’m giving it a minus. As of March 21, 2019, the situation is no better.
  • Supports PNG format only.

Pros:

  • Simulates the appearance of a website page on a tablet and mobile. But, taking into account the fact that most modern sites have a mobile version and look completely different in it than on a desktop, this plus is very doubtful.

Result:

  • I don't recommend it. The service in spirit is quite consistent with that slob-robot who, with a stupid look, scattered all the copies on the main page of the site.

IMGonline service

Located at: www.imgonline.com.ua

Cons:

  • Does not scan all images from a website page. Despite the fact that there is a “disable pictures” option in the settings, it simply does not work. Whether it is turned on or not, in the best case, there will be one or two pictures on the copy of the page, instead of the rest of the images there will be just a space.

Pros:

  • Takes a screenshot in PNG, JPG formats.
  • It is possible to manipulate (I can't call it settings) the size of the future screenshot before scanning.

Result:

  • I don't recommend it.

Screenpage service

Located at: http://screenpage.ru/

Cons:

  • Takes a screenshot in PNG format only.
  • Requests your email.
  • Does not scan all images from a website page. In the best case, there will be one or two pictures on the copy of the page, instead of the rest of the images there will be just a space. This error is systematic.

Pros:

Result:

  • I don't recommend it.

Conclusion

As I promised at the very beginning, I provided you with very good, working solutions: the program FastStone Capture program PicPick, services S-shot And Snapito. I hope that I helped you understand the issue and choose a tool to your liking.

Of course, within the scope of this article it is impossible to physically talk about all the methods and tools that allow you to take screenshots. I tried to talk about those that are easy and convenient to use, and those that are not very suitable to be considered a good tool. For what? First of all, so that you do not waste time searching. Perhaps it would have been worth including the Screenpresso program in the review. But... The fact is that the program has a free version and a paid version. It wouldn't be so bad if these were two different programs. In fact, all this is one program, only part of the functionality in it is available exclusively for money. You start clicking on the buttons, everything you need seems to work, and at the very end, instead of the saved result, you receive information that this particular action is only possible in the paid version. Perhaps the program is not bad, but I did not like the approach to the user. So I didn't test it. Here is the link to the site if anyone is interested: https://www.screenpresso.com/

What screenshotters do you use? Why are they interesting, what features do they have?

Take a screenshot screen very easy using the default keyboard commands. But, if you want to take a screenshot entire page in the browser, and not just the visible area of the screen, then you will need special tools and a few extra clicks.

There are at least 4 ways to take a screenshot of an entire web page:

Zoom out the page and use default keys

This quick method will only work if the page extends only slightly beyond the visible area of the screen. Zoom out the page until it fits completely on the screen, and then take a screenshot using the default commands:

  • Windows: Press a keyPrint Screen (PrtScr or Print Scrn). The screenshot will be saved to the clipboard. To insert this image into a file, use any graphics editor.
  • Mac : Use the keyboard shortcut Cmd-Shift-3. By default, the screenshot will be saved as a PNG file on your desktop.

Programs for taking screenshots

You can install one of the special programs for taking screenshots on your computer. For example, I tried Snagit by Techsmith (both Windows and Mac), FastStone Capture (the program is only available for Windows) and Paparazzi (Mac only). When choosing, please note that some of these programs are not free. Share links in the comments if you know of other similar applications.

Online tools for taking screenshots

If you don't want to install anything on your computer, you can use one of these web tools to take a screenshot of the entire page directly in your browser: Snapito, Screenshot Machine or Web-capture.net . They all work in a similar way: just paste the URL of the desired page into the appropriate field on the service page.

Browser extensions

This is my favorite way to take screenshots of pages. No need to switch to another tab or launch a separate application - fewer clicks!

Today I invite you to consider a very interesting task - how to take a long screenshot from the Android screen. This refers to taking a screenshot while scrolling the screen. The task is not trivial and is especially typical for capturing web pages that scroll across multiple screens.

It is impossible to take such a screenshot using the built-in Android tools, so in this article I suggest using two Android applications that will greatly facilitate this task.

Taking screenshots from your smartphone screen is a very useful and popular feature. Many users use it for different purposes. But, despite the obvious usefulness of the built-in function, it has a big drawback - only those elements of the screen image that are visible at the time of its creation can be included in one screenshot. If you do it the old-fashioned way, images stretched across several screens can be divided into several successive screenshots taken while scrolling the footcloth.

Relatively recently, to solve this problem, Xiaomi introduced a new feature in its MIUI 8th version - “Long Screenshot”. The long-awaited function of creating a screenshot for a long web page has pleased the owners of smartphones of the same name. It is easy to use and resembles the implementation of the image capture function in Panasonic devices. But, after the presentation of the technology for creating screenshots with scrolling the screen, not every Android device was able to implement it in practice. To make the feature available, you will have to use third-party tools and perform several steps on your smartphone.

Warning: in order to activate the long screenshot function on a smartphone without MIUI 8 shell, you will have to download and install a third-party application from the Google Play store. Therefore, make sure in advance that your device is connected to the Internet and that you have free space on your device.

Creating a long screenshot with scrolling the screen in the LongShot application

The LongShot app can be found and downloaded freely on the Google Play Store. It was specially designed to take long screenshots on Android. The process of taking a screenshot in LongShot is quite simple if you select the desired mode.

Capture screenshot mode

  1. Open LongShot and select the Capture screenshot option.
  2. Once launched, the application will ask you for permission to start working.
  3. Next, LongShot will prompt you to select an application in which you will take a long screenshot.
  4. Open the desired application and click Start. Scroll through the application pages across the screen as needed. To finish taking screenshots, click Done.
  5. In this mode, you will receive not one long screenshot, but a series of screenshots cut from a “footcloth” stretched across the screen. You still have to work with them.
  6. A list of screenshots with sketches will open in front of you. Remove unnecessary screenshots. To check, you can view the sketch in full format by clicking on it and selecting “View in full screen” in the context menu. Then click on the thumbnail again and select "Delete" if you want to delete it.
  7. If you want to add something else to a long screenshot, click on the plus sign located in the circle and select an additional image.
  8. You can compose a future long screenshot the way you want - vertically or horizontally, in automatic or manual mode, with or without a status bar. To do this, you can click the "Configure" button in the lower left corner of the application and select the necessary options.
  9. After setting the configuration options, click the "Join" button in the lower right corner of the application.
  10. After some time spent processing and stitching individual images into a long screenshot, you will be taken to the Stitch menu.
  11. Here you will see a project for the future long screenshot, which can be further customized. If you are happy with everything, just click the Save button in the upper right corner.
  12. If something is wrong in the project, click one of the Adjust buttons, which is located next to each component and use the options for cropping each frame. For fine and coarse cropping, you can use the "1px" or "10px" up or down buttons. After trimming, click the Done button and, if you are now happy with everything, click Save.

Important note: screenshot files are automatically saved to the /storage/emulated/0/longshot directory.

At first glance, taking a long screenshot is not easy, but believe me, the developers have made the process intuitive and understandable. And they have taken care of those who want to take a long screenshot of a multi-screen web page in just a couple of clicks. For this purpose, a special mode “Capture web page” has been created.

  1. In the main menu of the application, click the “Capture web page” button. The built-in LongShot browser will open with an address bar in which you need to enter the URL of the site whose page you want to “screen”. The site address can be typed or pasted after copying it in another application. To open the page, click the checkmark.
  2. Next, scroll the site page to the location you need, where the screenshot should start and click the “Set start position” button. The blue horizontal line will indicate the location from which the screenshot will be captured.
  3. Next, scroll down the site page to the fragment where you need to complete the long screenshot. Follow the horizontal pink line.
  4. Click the "End here and capture" button. At this moment, a full-fledged long screenshot will be created with scrolling of the web page.

Key features of the program:

  • Automatically stitches several screenshots into one, regardless of which direction the image was scrolled - horizontally or vertically;
  • performs auto-capture of screenshots while scrolling;
  • “floating” image capture buttons make it easier to create a series of screenshots;
  • manual image stitching mode for fine-tuning a long screenshot;
  • quickly capture a long web page, just specify the beginning and end and the screenshot is ready;
  • no watermarks, all functions are free, ads can be hidden.

Long screenshot of a web page on Android in the Scroll Capture app

This application is perfect for taking a long screenshot from a web page that spans multiple screens. Let me note right away that the application is very simple, it couldn’t be simpler.

  1. Find and install the Scroll Capture app in the Google Play Store.
  2. Launch the application.
  3. Enter in the address bar of your built-in browser the address of the site with a long web page of which you want to take a screenshot.
  4. If you previously copied the site address, the application will automatically pick it up and offer to open it in your browser. I don’t recommend refusing, this will further speed up the process of creating a long screenshot.
  5. After opening the page, click on the icon at the bottom of the screen in the form of camera shutter blades. The desktop image will immediately be filled with a purple tint and will become inaccessible to your devices. A purple pointer in the form of a paint roller with a handle will move chaotically in the center. It’s strange why the developer chose this particular symbol... The process of scanning an image and creating a long screenshot is displayed so simply. It will only take a few moments.
  6. Without any questions or the need to scroll the page, the long screenshot will be automatically saved to the program directory. It is created by default here: -->Pictures>Scroll Capture.

Of course, in addition to the two applications described above, there are dozens of others. Today they can make it easier for you to take a long screenshot on any Android device. But in my experience, LongShot and Scroll Capture are among the best, especially for taking a screenshot of a long web page that spans multiple screens.
