Refill Xerox phaser 3100 MFP cartridge

It’s quite simple: you need to unscrew the screws on the left side of the cartridge. To do this you will need a special 6-point star screwdriver. If you don't have one at hand, you can make cuts on these screws for a flat-head screwdriver. After removing the side cover of the cartridge, you need to open the plug, which is clearly visible, and fill in the toner. Xerox PHASER 3120 or Samsung ML-1710 BULAT toner is suitable. This is not the main problem.

Since recently manufacturers of office equipment, including Xerox, have been trying in every possible way to protect their cartridges from the possibility of refilling them, after installing a refilled cartridge, users are faced with an unexpected problem: the message “Install a toner card” appears on the Xerox 3100MFP display. The device is blocked.

The EEPROM 24C16 chip is located on the main board on the right side of the Xerox Phaser 3100MFP. EEPROM - electrically erasable programable read only memory.

Program for flashing the 24C16 chip of the Xerox Phaser 3100 MFP.

Ready-made firmware for EEPROM 24c16 of the Xerox Phaser 3100 mfp in an understandable Ponyprog format can be downloaded here: download firmware for EEPROM 24c16. After flashing this EEPROM, your device will not be blocked by toner until the counter counts 12,000 prints, i.e. You will have the opportunity to refill the cartridge three or four times without purchasing a toner card. After 12,000 prints, the device will be locked again. Then you will need to repeat the flashing procedure using the same fill.

As you can see, refilling the Xerox Phaser 3100 MFP cartridge itself is not very difficult, but frankly speaking, the procedure for flashing the 24C16 microcircuit is time-consuming and painstaking. Not everyone will decide to do such experiments with their enough expensive device. Currently, original Xerox Phaser 3100mfp 106R01460 refill kits for 3,000 prints are already on sale. This kit includes: a container with toner for 3000 prints, an external sticker, a new plug closing the toner bin, an activation card (smart card) of the cartridge, and instructions for refilling the Xerox phaser 3100 MFP cartridge.
True, the cost of this kit is about $35-$40, although this is about 3 times cheaper than buying a new cartridge. The choice is yours...

If the device has version 2.07m, then there is a similar solution, but it was decided not to put it in the public domain, but to distribute it for a fee (write to anyone interested) in order to somehow contain its spread on the network. Distribution on the network will inevitably lead to plugging this “hole” with a copier, as was already done in version t. This solution is also suitable for Konica-Minolta PagePro 1480MF 1490MF, Philips MFD 6020(6050), OKI B2500MFP.

A solution for version 2.07t has been produced, but is not sold in order to avoid posting it on the network, as was the case with version m. We say special thanks to one person who posted it on his blog. The only option available to you is:

if the device has version 2.07t, then at the moment, the solution for the Xerox 3100 MFP with and without fax, version 2.07t and miniboot 3.01 is to resolder (or reprogram) a set of 24c16 and 29LV chips wired for version 2.05w with miniboot 0.01 (Provided service of sending a set of already programmed microcircuits on professional equipment with subsequent data verification). If you live in Russia, then write to the address [email protected]- the kit is sent the next day after payment. The cost of one set is 500 rubles. When ordering, be sure to inform which device you need the kit for (with a fax or not, since the flash is different), your full address (including zip code) and the last name, first name, patronymic of the recipient of the parcel - otherwise the parcel will not be given to you at the post office. Shipping is free. When ordering five or more sets, the cost of each set is 400 rubles.

Also, the problem with the T version can be solved by installing a new smart card and after resetting the device, block the basket and 24c16 as shown at the beginning of the article (if jumpers were previously installed on the microcircuits, then they must be removed and everything returned to its original form, otherwise the smart will be reset -card will not work). Naturally this method with new card works on all other versions. After blocking the microcircuits, the counters will be reset to zero after the device is turned off.

Attention!

Now a set of microcircuits can be ordered for residents of Ukraine. If you live in Ukraine, then write to the mail - fliper0468(no spam)mail.ru. Prompt shipment within one day after payment! Prices vary.

Having a set of programmed microcircuits is a good insurance in case something goes wrong with the device; everyone who is closely involved in repairing office equipment and 3100 in particular should have such kits. Of course, you can purchase blank microcircuits and program them yourself, but not everyone has programmers at a price of about 10,000 rubles. plus a socket for a couple of thousand, and for such cases our service for sending these kits is suitable.

Please note:

If, after reworking the device, the screen displays FLASH ERROR - FLASH PLUG INIT, this means that the device cannot count 24s16. This occurs due to poor-quality soldering or (much less often) a malfunction of this microcircuit.

If, after re-soldering the 29LV microcircuit, black squares appear on the screen, this means poor-quality soldering (or, less commonly, a malfunction due to overheating during soldering) of this microcircuit. Also, if 29LV is not soldered, the message may appear waiting file.
Sometimes the device writes that card reading is temporarily suspended, we turn off the device for a day. After that, turn it on, the inscription should disappear.

It is possible that after resoldering a 29LV flash drive with version W to a device that previously had version T or M, when copying, a sheet with a background comes out:

This happens because starting from version M, the devices are equipped with different scanner lines than in previous models. The solution to the problem is to perform the “calibration” item of the scanner from the menu, after calibration the result is:

There may be a situation where calibrating the scanner may not help, then you need to do the following, as soon as the printer works after resoldering 29LV, raise the version of the device using the suite to M or T.

Another unpleasant moment is that there may be such a situation - the device prints well from the computer, but copies poorly:

First you need to calibrate the scanner (from simple menu and from the service), perform a factory reset, but often this does not help. I get out of the situation in the following way - I replace the photodrum in the cartridge with a photodrum from the HP 1100 (and not necessarily from the HP1100), with the gears being changed naturally. This procedure takes 5-10 minutes, the same copy of the device after replacing the photodrum:

For smart cards, Xerox 3100 MFP versions from 2.07t and lower.
and OKI MB260/280/290 and Philips MFD 6020W, 6050W, 6080 cards.

You can order\buy cards

Xerox 3100 cards work with all devices, BUT! Some Xerox 3100 machines with version 2.07m do not see them.

This will be corrected by updating the device firmware to the next version 2.07t

The firmware can be obtained from the Xerox website, or downloaded from the link

For machine without fax Xerox 3100S

Now our card is guaranteed to work.

There are no problems with OKI MB260/280/290 and Philips MFD 6020W, 6050W, 6080 printers.

How to restore the card.
ATTENTION If the card is modified (a diode is installed, see figure),

There is no need to touch/solder the jumper. (Even if it is there) Flash the 24c04 chip and the corresponding file and that’s it.
The card is ready for use again.

If the map is not finalized

1. Remove the jumper.

2. Flash the 24c04 chip

3. Restore the jumper.

4. Check point 3. call contact.
Between points A and B (must be 0)

Improved map.

From now on, all cards are sold modified.

We fill the 24c04 chip with the firmware from the file that corresponds to this particular card.
File, take it

There will be questions write.

We feed the device a smart card.

Version 2.07t eats a smart card at any time.
Whether the MFP is blocked or not.
Those. If you insert a smart card into a machine that is ready to print, it will immediately prompt you to replace the toner.

2.07m - works with a card only when it is already blocked by toner and asks for a card.

After feeding the card, turn off the device and remove the right side panel.

This is what the work platform looks like after removing the right side panel and the metal screen.

two microcircuits will need to be modified.

Act one

Act two
Solder the jumper as shown in the figure.

Act three
We bite the leg of the microcircuit.

Epilogue
We collect, check, record meter readings, print, see if the meters have increased, turn off, turn on, look at the meters.
The readings returned to the state after modification.
ATTENTION!!! NOT TO ZERO!!!
But every time after turning off the power, the counters and toner % will be restored to the values after modification. The toner is 99%, the number of sheets... how many he printed there before revision. In principle, it doesn’t matter anymore. It will work reliably and will no longer ask for a card.

After we restore the smart card. We process the next device.

Here you can find information about Xerok 3100 firmware with earlier versions. About the methods for flashing 2.07m and 2.07t -

You can flash printers with firmware versions 2.04u, 2.05w, 2.07g. In order to view the firmware version number, press sequentially [down arrow], [*], V. If you have a different software version on your MFP, you need to update. The update is done using the Xerox Companion Suite program, which is supplied on disk along with the drivers, or you can ask me

Find out the firmware version for 3100 with fax

down arrow-*-V (on fax keyboard) and then Start

But look the same way, only the letter is V.

In this sequence for Xerok 3100 with fax. V.2.07g boot V.3.01

I feed the smart card
2) Turn on the device, check the meters and turn it off.
3) 24С16 lift the 7th leg.
4) Close the 7 to 8 leg on 24С16
5) Unsolder m/s 93
6) Close contacts 1 and 4 m/s 93

if there is no card

soldered the mic, read the dump, made a backup, flashed it, blocked the cart, soldered the mic to the board except leg 7, turned it on, checked, everything was ok, threw a jumper from 7 to 8, assembled, checked

The basket is a second chip for storing temporary data! It is located in the lower left corner of the formatter; you need to short-circuit the first and fourth legs so that the counters do not return to their original values when the ms is flashed! First you flash 24C16, then shorten the second ms, and only then solder 24C16 in place and check the functionality of the device, and after a successful test, shorten 7 to 8!

For beginners

In this article we want to show how to properly flash the MFP 3100. All actions can be divided into three stages: Disassembling the MFP, Soldering and flashing the chip, Assembling the MFP.

Disassembling the MFP.

To begin, you should remove the paper tray and detach the front cover that covers the cartridge. After this, you need to remove the side plastic cover, to do this you need to unscrew 2 bolts and remove 4 latches, the first bolt is located in front behind the front cover (Figure 1), the second bolt is located behind the paper seal that needs to be broken (if you break the seal, then you automatically remove the printer (MFP) with warranty) Figure 2, two latches are located at the bottom (you need to press on them) Figure 3, two latches are at the top Figure 4. Unscrew the 2 bolts, press on the lower latches, pry up the upper latches and remove the side cover.

So, you have removed the side plastic cover, and you see a metal protective cover that needs to be removed, figure 5. To remove it, you need to unscrew 3 bolts, the first from the front, figure 6, the second from the bottom, figure 7, the third bolt from the back, figure 8.

Carefully remove the metal protective cover and see the board on which you need to solder and flash the microcircuit Figure 9.10.

The first stage, namely disassembly is completed, we move on to the next stage: Soldering and flashing the microcircuit.

Soldering and flashing of the microcircuit.

First you need to turn on the MFP and find out the version software(software) and MINIBOOT version. The software can be G U W F M T and others.... MINIBOOT are 2.05; 2.07... When the printer is turned on, press the menu button and press the star button, a list will appear in which you select required sections Figure 11,12,13.

In order for the printer to work, you need to reset the counter of printed pages, which is located in the 24C16 chip. We will work with her. You need to carefully desolder this microcircuit with a soldering iron; it is better to use a hairdryer. The soldering iron should be grounded to prevent static shock to the board. You should work at a temperature of 260-300 degrees, if you solder at high temperatures, the board may overheat; if the board overheats, the glue holding the tracks loses its properties and the tracks fly off Figure 14. If this happens to you, then you can solder to the duplicate outputs Figure 15.

After you have unsoldered the 24C16 chip, you need to flash it in accordance with the software version and the MINIBOOT version. The firmware is flashed using a chip programmer; you can use a regular programmer with 2 resistors. You can also not flash the microcircuit, but solder another ready-made flashed microcircuit. You can purchase stitched chips in our online store (chips for Xerox 3100). So you have the required firmware chip and you need to solder it back, you should do it carefully. Before soldering on the microcircuit, you need to lift the seventh leg, solder everything except this leg into place. Now you need to turn on the printer (MFP) and print a sheet of paper, make sure that the toner is 98%, then you need to turn off the device and continue soldering. You need to solder the seventh and eighth legs of the microcircuit together as shown in Figure 16,17. We do not solder the seventh leg to the board!

After soldering, you need to clean the surface with alcohol to remove flux and rosin. The result should be as shown in Figure 18.

If you want your device not to display the message “Toner is low, Toner is running low,” you need to perform the following operations with the microcircuit shown in Figure 19.

A jumper is made between the first and fourth legs, for example as shown in Figure 20.

If you have software versions “T” and “M”, then you still need to bite the 8th leg

The second stage, namely soldering and firmware of the microcircuits is completed, we move on to the next stage: Assembling the MFP.

MFP assembly

Let's begin assembly: Assembly proceeds in the reverse order of disassembling the MFP.

We install the metal protective cover in place, tighten all the bolts (Figure 22).

We put on the plastic side cover, fasten all the latches, and tighten 2 bolts. We put on the front cover, insert the paper tray Figure 23. Turn on the printer and make sure that the MFP is ready, which means we did everything correctly.

Examples of disgusting soldering are not ours!!

Reflashing the Xerox Phaser 3100 MFP printer is a service that involves some kind of “crack” if you want to upgrade the software.

The purpose of the firmware: to prevent the printer from detecting the type (refilled or new) of the cartridge.

Does your printer show "No Toner" and refuse to print? Refilling the cartridge did not solve the problem and the printer continues to display the message “The cartridge is empty. Replace with a new one.”? This means the lock has been activated and the printer will not allow you to print without resetting the counter.

There is a way out. We flash the Xerox Phaser 3100 MFP printer, thereby preventing it from identifying a new cartridge installed or refilled.
