Mini speakers with bluetooth and flash drive. Portable speaker with radio: review of the best models and capabilities

Hi all. I decided to share my impressions of a very good device – the MUSKY DY21L Bluetooth speaker, purchased on AliExpress. Nowadays such devices are quite a popular trend. Branded speakers from JBL and Sony cost a fortune, so I went to explore a well-known Chinese store and ordered MUSKY DY21L for testing. Now let's talk about everything in order.

Specifications:

Speaker power: 8W (two speakers 4W each)

LED display

MP3 player - USB, microSD card

AUX input - Mini-jack 3.5 mm

Built-in microphone for hands-free calling (headset function)

Playback formats: APE, FLAC, MP3, WAV, WMA

Built-in lithium battery: 2000 mAh

Running time: ~4 hours (music)

Size (LxWxH): 23 x 9.5 x 7 cm

Equipment:

Column

Charging cable

Audio cable AUX

Instructions in English

Appearance:

The speaker looks very solid thanks to the combination of glossy plastic on top and matte aluminum inserts on the sides. Almost the entire front panel is covered with a protective mesh, on which there is a small LED display.

The bottom also has glossy plastic and four rubberized feet that prevent the speaker from sliding on the surface. The back is matte plastic with perforations through which a passive speaker can be seen to enhance the bass. All connection ports are also located (and there are plenty of them here!) and the onoff switch.

Controls:

  • PlayPause button Pick up the handset
  • Mode button to switch modes
  • Buttons previous tracknext track
  • Volume down and volume up buttons (This is great because the Chinese like to combine them with switching tracks)

Signal sources:

One of the greatest strengths of this gadget is the ability to reproduce sound from almost all current sources.

  • Bluetooth wireless connection with a phone and a laptop. During operation, no communication problems were detected. It holds the stated 10 meters exactly.
  • FM radio - FM radio. Picks up the signal perfectly. The antenna is built into the speaker body.
  • USB Flash – upload music to a flash drive. During playback, timecode is shown on the display.
  • SD Card – upload music to the memory card. During playback, timecode is shown on the display.
  • AUX – linear input. We connect the speaker to anything that has a 3.5 mm jack audio jack

Impressions and sound:

And now the most important part – impressions of the sound. Everyone loves to listen loudly, and even with deeper low frequencies? Here MUSKY DY21L can be given a solid five. The sound is rich and bassy. There is enough volume reserve. The speaker always turns on with a volume level of 20. When turned off (in the case of playback from a flash drive), it remembers the last song and starts playing it.

By the way, I bought a flash drive with minimal dimensions especially for this column. When connected, it practically does not stick out from the speaker.

Let's summarize. Pros:

  • Really powerful sound and deep bass
  • Play from many audio sources
  • Separate volume buttons

Let's summarize. Cons:

  • No charge indication. It is impossible to know how charged the battery is
  • After volume level 27 (out of 30), slight distortion appears.

Read in the review what a portable speaker with radio is and how it differs from a portable radio. And most importantly - review best models on the market at a reasonable price.

Neither time nor technology stands still. A couple of decades ago, you could easily surprise the average person with a miniature radio that was powered by a couple of batteries, and its functions were limited to searching for stations. Today, radio has become like an appendage to other devices - clocks, alarm clocks, telephones, radios, speakers, etc. Why not embed it if possible?! Moreover, despite the development of television and the Internet, it is still huge amount people all over the world are enjoying this useful technology.

Especially popular recently are portable speakers with radios, often with support for flash drives, which make it possible not only to listen to your favorite station, but also music directly from your phone or external storage. These are the ones we will talk about today.

Portable speaker with radio - what kind of gadget is this?

Portable speakers are essentially the same battery-powered radios, but with a large number opportunities. Here you have a Bluetooth function that allows you to connect the gadget to other devices, better speakers, and a rechargeable battery. Often such speakers have connectors for installing memory cards or connecting flash drives. More advanced models are even equipped with a screen, alarm clock and calendar. With all this, their cost does not exceed the price tag for a conventional radio, with the exception of models from well-known manufacturers with a bunch of additional functions.

The best portable speakers with radio

Wireless speakers with radio have gained mass popularity thanks to Chinese manufacturers. Everyone has probably come across equipment from the Middle Kingdom, stuffed with the most different functions. If ten years ago, despite their sophisticated features (often some functions were useless or did not work at all), this kind of device was avoided by buyers, but today you can buy a very attractive product for little money. For you, we have selected the best portable speakers with radio that are currently relevant.

SUPRA PAS-6277

Quite a strange, yet unusual and very functional device. The well-known company, it seems, tried to implement all the ideas in SUPRA PAS-6277. Firstly, this is a portable speaker that is not very powerful, but weighs only 140 grams. Secondly, this is a flashlight that will light the way for lovers of late walks. Thirdly, it is a radio that will keep you up to date with the latest news.

This is already good, but what about the other characteristics of SUPRA PAS-6277:

Who, if not the Chinese little-known manufacturers, will delight the buyer with a sophisticated portable speaker with a radio and a bunch of other functions. Lewinner BQ-615 is an analogue of the rather popular Pulse solution from the company. Only several times cheaper and with more functions. The main feature is the pulsating backlight, which can operate in several modes. Looks great.

The Bluetooth speaker from Lewinner attracts not so much with its sound as with its interesting lighting. Buy portable acoustics BQ-615 is available for less than 2000 rubles.

We move from bright speakers to more ordinary ones. Tesler PSS-555 – wireless speaker small in size, yet quite weighty, which incorporates a set of functions most necessary for the average user. Despite the unprepossessing design, do not underestimate the acoustic capabilities of the speaker. Tandem speakers produce great sound, even the beginnings of bass can be heard.

ASSEMBLY
To assemble this column, assemble electronic circuits not needed on boards. It is enough to solder a few wires. There are no assembly instructions. Before assembling, let's think about it.

Let's clean the body blanks from protective films:

Fingerprints are clearly visible on the black glossy background.

1. The speakers are installed between the round holder (which is installed in the housing) and the decorative grille.

There are no speaker holders provided; I will secure them with glue. It is good to place a rubber gasket between the speaker housing and the holder to reduce vibrations.

Speaker Installation

First, solder the wires and look at the polarity of connecting the speakers. Then use Moment glue to glue the speakers, holder, rubber seal and glue everything together.

Let's install the module, battery compartment, power connector and two 3.5 mm jacks.

2. One 3.5 socket serves for line input, then the second is only for connection external antenna for radio (there is a soldering point on the module). There is no headphone output on the module.

3. The battery poles are not marked on the battery compartment. Compartment for BL-5C format battery. From this photo we determine the polarity:

Since there are no assembly instructions, apparently it is supposed to supply 4.2 V from the power supply directly to the battery and from the battery to power the main module. It is clear that charging lithium batteries directly is not good. I decided to install a “popular” charging board lithium battery. Used a glue gun to attach.

The board does not support “hot” charging mode (we charge the battery while the device is running), we had to make a separate socket for charging, and use a circuit breaker on the main board - the battery is turned off when the power plug is inserted. Perhaps I was too clever with connecting the battery and it can be connected directly to the module.
4. If you glue the silicone legs from the kit, the battery compartment is higher than the legs and the speaker stands on it.

This is not good. Or change the legs or battery compartment inside. So I did. The compartment opens if you pry it open with a screwdriver.

5. For the microphone, I drilled a 4.5 mm hole just above the control panel and inserted it there. Fixed it with hot glue.

Build process:

After assembly, there were a few screws and nuts left - they put them in extra. This is good.

RESULT

There will be no measurements - since this is a column, in order to properly take measurements you need a measuring microphone, which I don’t have yet.

The included power supply is bad. After connecting to the speaker, you can hear squeaking and whistling when the music is not playing, Chinese plug and 4.2 V. Modify (how?) or change.

Another photo of the power supply inside

I replaced it - everything is ok with it.

power unit

In terms of sound quality. Plays fine. Of course, “transparent highs - velvet bass” should not be expected from the design. But it doesn’t cause gag reflexes either.

Doesn't hammer, doesn't thump or squeak. Sound quality is comparable

It is clear that the functionality and quality are completely determined by the module. Such modules have been described here several times. I will write my comments and observations:
1. Turned on by a switch on the board. At the same time, it immediately turns on the Bluetooth mode, which is announced loudly in a female voice. If a flash drive or memory card is inserted, it plays from the card and reports this. If connected to a computer, it turns on USB mode speakers (see below) and reports this in a female voice when turned on.
2. The operating mode is displayed on the screen.
3. When the power is turned off, it does not remember: mode and volume. But it remembers the frequency of the radio station and the track number (but not the position in it).
4. There is a “miniUSB“ connector on the panel. Can be used to power the module.
5. There is a “clock” mode, which is reset when the power is turned off.
6. FM radio mode. The radio picks up well. But there is no precise tuning and it is not clear how to remember radio stations. You have to sort through the stations by number using the track switch buttons.
7. To change the volume, you need to long press the track switch buttons. It takes skill.
8. If you have a cable like this:

Then the column can be used as external usb speaker to the computer (the built-in DAC is turned on). The volume can only be adjusted using a computer.

9. Remote control works well.
10. Flac, mp3 plays. The screen shows the time and how long the track was played. It starts playing files from the root folder, then plays files from subfolders.
11. I played files from a 64 GB FAT32 flash drive.
12. The line input plays quieter than a flash drive. Needed high level signal or preamplifier.
13. Bluetooth is normal here. There is no aptX here. For this application it doesn't matter. Recognized by all phones. Normal range - 8 m. Located like ZTV-CT02EA

14. The microphone for Bluetooth works for calls. You can hear it well at a meter or closer.
15. Adjusting the volume on Bluetooth on the phone works separately from adjusting the volume on the buttons.

CONCLUSION.
Overall I liked the design. There are jambs - how could we live without them? Main disadvantage- not very durable acrylic case with screws. The design is more thoughtful than . It is clear that for comparable money you can buy a ready-made speaker, but there is sufficient functionality, good sound, a remote control with a battery, and a rich set of equipment ( charger, different cables), USB speaker to computer...

The most important thing is that the designer gives joy from self-assembly useful device with a good loud sound :-)

$9.58 (bought for $5)

I've been looking for myself for a long time bluetooth speaker. Sometimes you need a mobile audio source. To be light and small, inexpensive, have decent sound, wide functionality and time battery life at least a few hours. Until recently, I did not believe that it was possible for a device to exist with all of these requirements. I was skeptical about portable speakers. One tiny speaker. Where do the bass and high frequencies come from?

But, nevertheless, I decided to take a risk and buy a speaker. I’ll say right away that I didn’t consider expensive and branded speakers, since one of the points was “low price.” My choice was the column from this review. It's just that the JD store where it was purchased is quite strange. It's not the best low prices, but sometimes he runs sales and discounts. He also sometimes gives out coupons. In short, it’s worth keeping it in mind and checking the news occasionally.

I chose the column black. I can't stand pink and blue and similar colors for electronics.

The packaging is standard. You can buy any of a dozen types of non-name barrel speakers. Almost 100% that it will be packed in exactly the same box.

Our mail tried to crush it, but the column withstood everything with honor. Only the cardboard packaging was damaged.

What we have according to the specification: AUX (external speaker for any device), FM radio, mp3 player, Bluetooth player, speakerphone for the phone.

The speaker slightly resembles an old camera lens. The body is aluminum, painted with grooves. The grooves are crooked, but this is not noticeable.

On top, under the metal mesh, there is a speaker with a rubber suspension (Bass X-pansion system). It turns out like 2 in 1, both a speaker and a passive radiator.

The bottom surface is covered with a rubber sticker, which makes the speaker non-slip.

Available: USB port.

LED indicating operation. Turn on, charge, connect via bluetooth.

MiniUSB connector for charging (also known as AUX input).

Slot for microSD cards, control joystick and switch (mode switch), microphone hole.

The controls are quite simple. Pressing the joystick - play-stop. Short press to the side - switches tracks in mp3 mode (bluetooth) or radio stations in FM mode. Long press to the side - volume adjustment.

The switch has 3 positions:

1. In the center - everything is off.

2. Left - Bluetooth mode.

3. Right - mp3 mode if a memory card is inserted or FM if there is no card in the slot.

I was unable to start AUX mode. Maybe it doesn't work on my device, or maybe I just didn't find it. Actually, I don’t need it, so I didn’t waste time.

The set includes a standard cord for this type of speaker. It is used to charge the battery and as an antenna in FM mode.

Turn it on.

Damn... The activation of each mode begins with a nasty plimka (like at a train station) and female voice In English it says which mode is on. The voice, unlike some Chinese products, is quite intelligible. But everything is very loud! If you don't turn it on quietly, everyone will know about it.

The speaker scanned the FM band and began playing confidently. The stations are switched, the reception is quite reliable. I plugged in more than the standard cable long cable miniUSB (without ferrite filters). The reception has become generally stable. The sound is loud and quite clear.

MP3. Insert the card and turn it on. After another whine and announcement of the regime, music started. The sound is loud. The frequencies are quite decent for such a small device. Low frequencies Yes, if you place the speaker on a resonating surface, the low-frequency range sounds even better.

The sound quality of the speaker exceeded my expectations. The speaker plays no worse than tape recorders of the 80s and 90s. I expected it to be worse. Of course, not Hi-Fi, but that is not required of her.

By the way, if the speaker is playing and charging at the same time, the sound is exactly the same, there are no extraneous sounds.

The speaker was immediately found by the phone and connected. No password required. The sound via Bluetooth is clear, but quieter than with FM or MP3. Tracks and volume can be controlled both from the phone and from the speaker joystick.

If someone calls while listening to music from a phone via Bluetooth, the music stops and the speaker works as a “speakerphone.” Moreover, you can speak directly through the speaker, it has a built-in microphone.

The microphone is weak; in order to be heard you will have to bring the speaker directly to your face.

During the test, the speaker played mp3 for about 4 hours on a single charge. Quite decent, considering that many reviews write that such speakers are not equipped with the best batteries (often stale with traces of rust) batteries.

Now let's move on to disassembly. I would still like to take a look at the speaker, the battery and, if possible, change the microphone to a better one.

An attempt to pull out the mesh and get to the speaker failed. Without spoiling appearance I can't get the speakers. Okay, I didn’t really want to. Let's be satisfied with photos from the Internet.

The photo is not mine. All the speakers here are done in the same way. Speaker with rubber suspension (Bass X-pansion system).

One screw is visible from underneath the rubber band. The remaining 2 are at 60 degree angles. We slightly turn the elastic band to the side and unscrew them.

Inside, everything is pretty much the same as everyone else's. Battery is smaller than standard cell phone. It won't be that easy to replace. But, if you set a goal, I think it will be possible to find it. So far it works like that.

There is not much room for a microphone...
Two-color LED with Bluetooth antenna underneath. There are many places with unsoldered parts. But it works.

The markings on the microcircuits have not been erased. Charge controller Li-Ion battery present. This makes me happy.

Here's a larger one, if anyone is interested.

I unsoldered the microphone. Now on to the search for a donor to replace him.

Found it. Yes... It's unlikely to fit.

Ripped it out of the phone headset. This one is also larger than the one that was originally, but it is on wires. There is enough space there in height, there is a chance to fit it.

I soldered it and checked it. Just in case, I stuck a piece of electrical tape on the board so that the microphone body would not short-circuit anything.
