What to do if you need a simple phone? And not with buttons, but a smartphone and so that it would not be embarrassing to go out in public with it? It’s logical to start with the operators’ offers; the Big Three usually offer budget options. You can also choose a suitable smartphone among entry-level models. For Samsung, this is the recently introduced Galaxy J1 mini. Let's find out what's good about this budget Korean product.

Equipment

The smartphone is in a small white box, in addition to the device itself there is also charger. That's it, there is nothing else, no headphones, no cable.

Smallest galaxy

Budget Samsung is devoid of the attributes of expensive models, no glass or metal, only plastic. But plastic good quality, there is no feeling that you are holding a primitive phone in your hand. When you buy budgetary means connection, then this is an important point.

The body is black on the front and back, and the central part is made of dark gray glossy plastic. The sides were made slightly flattened, so the Galaxy J1 mini resembles others Samsung models. The case comes in three colors: in addition to black, they offer white or gold.

Along the perimeter there is a frame slightly protruding above the surface. The phone rests on it when you place it face down to avoid scratching the display coating. Usually Samsung makes the frame sparkle and shine, but here it is matte and does not attract attention to itself.

I think everyone has held a Samsung smartphone in their hands at least once in their life, so the layout of the buttons will seem painfully familiar. The volume control is on the left, the power button is on the right, and below the screen is a block of three keys. The wide central physical button responds with a clear click, and the presses are unmistakable. The key on the left launches a menu of running applications, and the right one takes you back a step. The buttons are not backlit, which is not very nice, but you can get used to it over time.

At the back there is only a speaker hole and a camera lens, and what more could you want? cheap smartphone Samsung is designed concisely.

Aim more accurately

The case cannot be called thin; the thickness is more than a centimeter. But the phone itself is compact, so it is easy and convenient to operate with one hand. Although it is heavy for a baby - 120 g. The small smartphone fits easily in pockets, it does not stick out or protrude from clothes.

But after large diagonals Typing texts on a 4-inch screen is no longer very convenient; fingers often miss the symbols on the keyboard. I solved the problem using Swype-style predictive input. In addition, you can type more accurately, sacrificing speed for the sake of grammar.

Only 4 inches

Screen size - 4 inches, resolution 480 x 800 pixels. For 2016, these are modest numbers, but first Samsung The i9000 Galaxy S had just such a screen back in 2010. After this nostalgic pause, let's evaluate the quality of the screen, since they are most often saved on in budget devices.

This is a TFT-TN panel, so viewing angles are far from maximum. If you turn the phone in your hand to the left or right, the picture on the screen dims or brightens, but there is no vertical distortion. On sunny days, the brightness has to be turned up to maximum, otherwise you won’t be able to see anything on the screen.

The smartphone does not have a light sensor; the brightness must be adjusted manually. This limitation is often encountered in the most affordable smartphones large manufacturers, although inexpensive Chinese brands do not skimp on this.

Slow gas

The filling is quite modest: a 4-core Spreadtrum SC7731 processor, Mali-400 graphics, 768 MB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory, of which 4.7 GB is free. AnTuTu produces a little more than 20 thousand “parrots”. Yes, it's not much, but at least the menu doesn't work at a snail's pace.

Although there are lags: you switch between applications and see for a moment blank screen, not the desired program. I used the phone without pain and suffering, as sometimes happens with budget devices. Galaxy J1 mini, by according to Samsung, sees a microSD card up to 128 GB, but it’s unlikely that anyone will put such a volume here, the card costs as much as the phone itself.

Nature UX shell, also known as TouchWiz, although this is an outdated name. The model uses Android 5.1, which appeared about a year ago. You can't count on 6.0 Marshmallow. In the settings we change the font size, you can also select the character style. Of course, we set a background image, arrange icons on desktops, and add widgets.

Just a camera

The 5 megapixel camera is very simple, there is no autofocus, and there is no flash. Because of this, we lost the flashlight function. Pro mode with manual setting looks like a mockery: what to configure? But you can quickly launch the camera double click to a physical button below the screen, just like in the older Galaxy. Examples of photos are below; due to the limited capabilities here, it is difficult to shoot texts or small objects. In general, a typical camera “for show”.

The front camera is 0.3 megapixels, you can recognize facial features in photographs, nothing more is required from it. Video recording quality is limited to 1280 x 720 pixels.

Dual SIM, but no LTE

The Galaxy J1 mini has a pair of microSIM slots, 3G works, reception is normal. Alas, there is no LTE; it is better not to use a smartphone as a modem for a laptop, because with 4G the Internet works much faster. There is also GPS for navigation, and Bluetooth keeps a stable connection with the Bose SoundLink On-Ear headset.

Charge every other day

Battery capacity is 1,500 mAh, the battery is replaceable. Charging is enough for 1.5-2 days of work with checking email, periodic use of the browser and applications for social networks. The operating time indicators are good, but there is a simple filling here, you don’t expect other numbers. The smartphone has an energy-saving profile when we limit the number of running applications.

Results

Samsung Galaxy J1 mini is the cheapest smartphone from the Korean company. It costs 5,490 rubles, as two covers for . He is capable of simple games, he cannot be called slow or scary in appearance. A simple smartphone from a well-known brand, and the brand name often plays a decisive role in the purchase.

Of the budget alternatives, I’ll mention it costs 5,390 rubles. Another option is Alcatel One Touch Pop 3 for 5,990 rubles.

Dual SIM cards

bad camera

Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini review

Korean manufacturer Samsung is one of the main players in the smartphone market. Its share is more than 20%. The company places its main emphasis on flagship lines Galaxy Note and Galaxy S. However, Koreans do not forget about ordinary people who want an A-brand smartphone, but cannot afford to pay for latest model 1000 dollars.

Samsung Mobile releases two cheaper lines: mid-range price category– A, and budget – J. The cheapest smartphone of the latter is the Samsung Galaxy J1 mini – a stripped-down version. The release date of the device is 2016.

Please note

Now its official cost is less than $80.

Options and packaging

Equipment Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini

The smartphone is sold in a white cardboard box made in a minimalist style. On the front side you can only see the model name, and on the back side there is information about the technical characteristics.

The phone lies on a cardboard backing. The device itself is in a plastic bag. A film with the characteristics of the processor, design and battery of the device is pasted onto the screen. The package includes the following elements:

  • Smartphone.
  • Battery.
  • Micro-USB sync cable.
  • Charger.
  • Operating instructions.
  • Paper documentation.

The package does not include headphones, case or protective films. The absence of a headset is an atypical decision from Samsung, since the Korean manufacturer supplies “adult” models of the budget J line with wired headphones.

Appearance and design

The smartphone is available in classic black and white colors, as well as in trendy gold colors. The device weighs 123 g and its dimensions are 121.6 x 63.1 x 10.8 mm. These are large dimensions for a 4-inch phone, but despite this it fits well in the hand. Comfort in use is achieved due to the sloping side edges on the back of the device. Also Samsung Galaxy J1 mini can be carried in your pants pockets without inconvenience.

Front panel appearance Galaxy smartphone J1 Mini

The hero of the review has lost almost all the components found in more expensive models. The body of the device is made of plastic. There are no glass (except for the glass itself on the front panel) or metal elements. Despite this, the smartphone is well assembled and there are no squeaks when squeezed.

The manufacturer has placed typical elements on the front panel. So, at the bottom there are touch buttons that perform the actions “Back” and “Call menu running applications" Between them is a hardware Home button. Naturally, It didn’t receive any, but it works clearly and unmistakably. There is a peephole above the screen front camera, earpiece grille, as well as two logos: Samsung and DUOS. The second means that the device supports two Micro SIM cards.

Location physical buttons Volume control and turning the phone on/off are also typical for a Korean manufacturer. Thus, the double volume rocker is located on the left side panel, and the power key is on the right. Both elements protrude above the plane, are easy to feel, and also have a tight movement. The top end has a headphone jack, and the bottom edge has a microphone hole and a Micro-USB port.

The volume buttons are located on the right side of the smartphone

On the back side there is a main camera module, a speaker grille and the manufacturer's logo. The cover is removable, and under it there is a slot for installing a card MicroSD memory, two trays for SIM cards and a battery.

Will be useful

The SIM card slots are located under the removable battery. In the upper left corner of the cover, closer to the side panel, there is a small recess that allows you to quickly remove the cover

The side frame that runs along the perimeter of the Samsung Galaxy J1 mini protrudes, which is why it creates the effect of a bumper placed on the phone. This is especially noticeable in golden and white color schemes. In addition, the front panel in these cases is made in two colors: the top one is always black, and the bottom one matches the color of the smartphone itself.

Display

Hero of the review with a resolution of 480x800 pixels and a diagonal of 4 inches. The pixel density is 217 ppi. The smartphone does not have a light sensor, which is why there is no mode automatic settings brightness These characteristics cannot be attributed to the advantages of the device. There are a number of budget smartphones, which offer a higher quality display. Moreover, most Chinese manufacturers create ultra-low-cost phones with HD resolution.

The screen of the review hero is dim. When exposed to direct sunlight, it fades and the picture becomes unreadable. The advantage of the brightness range is that the minimum value is enough to ensure comfortable work at night.

The new product is not very equipped large display 4 inches diagonal

Another drawback of the display is its size. At 4 inches, the built-in keyboard is uncomfortable to use. One way to eliminate this inconvenience is to install an alternative keyboard that would support continuous input.

Important to know

Any TFT matrix has small viewing angles. The Samsung Galaxy J1 mini has them far from the maximum. When your gaze deviates from the perpendicular, the image on the screen changes color.

Software

The smartphone runs on . At the time the device went on sale, this version of the green robot was already a year old, but the device did not receive Android 6.0. You don’t have to count on receiving updates over the air. On top operating system from Google installed branded shell TouchWiz. This interface can be seen in all Samsung smartphones.

Android 5.0 Lollipop

Unlike more expensive devices Samsung shell Galaxy J1 mini has been trimmed down. It provides a minimal set of settings. You can change the grid size to have more/fewer icons on the desktop; choose one of three text fonts; arrange icons on desktops and add widgets.

Will be useful

There are four elements fixed at the bottom of the desktop: calls, phone book, messages and application menu. Google Services are in a separate folder in which there was no place for Google+ and Play Market. They are located on the desktop. Also there is everything standard applications, of which we can note FM radio, which only works when a headset is connected; notes; email; company store Galaxy apps Apps.

Sound

The sound quality of the multimedia speaker is average. It is better not to listen to music at maximum volume settings, as the sound is distorted and there is a large amount of wheezing. Despite the low sound quality, the volume reserve of the external speaker is enough not to miss an incoming call.

The speech speaker is not far behind. There is no noise reduction system, so there will be a lot of interference during a telephone conversation. In addition, the speaker slightly distorts the voice of the interlocutor.

The sound in the headphones corresponds to the price category of the phone. Even when using an expensive headset, get high quality sound it is forbidden.

Performance

Volume is another drawback of the phone. The review hero has 768 MB of RAM, while most manufacturers equip their budget devices with at least 1 GB. The heart of the smartphone is the Spreadtrum processor.

Please note

The Samsung Galaxy J1 mini is unable to provide high levels of performance even when performing the most basic tasks.

Synthetic tests comply with technical specifications. And this does not apply to the results that the smartphone demonstrates, but to how it behaves during tests. It takes several attempts to complete the testing because the benchmarks crash. In AnTuTu, the Samsung Galaxy J1 mini score is just over 17 thousand points. In GeekBench, the smartphone scores 320 and 1000 points in tests of one and all cores, respectively.

Battery

Samsung Galaxy J1 mini is equipped with a removable 1500 mAh battery. Samsung claims that their device can work for 8 hours in telephone conversations, 29 hours of listening to music, and also provide about 7 hours of browsing the Internet via Wi-Fi and 6 hours via 3G.

In real conditions, you can achieve two days battery life with gentle use of the phone, and with average use full charge The battery will last for one day. You can increase the level of autonomy by activating the energy saving mode, which turns off all functions of the device except the basic ones.

Pros and cons

  • High quality build.
  • Supports dual SIM cards.
  • Possibility of memory expansion.
  • Nice design.

Review of Samsung Galaxy J1 mini SM-J105H (2016)

The South Korean giant has focused all its attention on mid-budget and top-end models mobile phones. This is understandable, because this industry is the most interesting for the consumer. But if people don't want to get expensive smartphones preferring a compact, cheap solution purely for calls and mail? For this case, the Galaxy J1 mini 2016 is provided, one of the few representatives of ultra-budget devices with a 4" screen from a well-known brand. It is ideal as a first Android gadget or an office dialer.

MAIN FEATURES OF A SMARTPHONE

5

First: miniature dimensions

Second: support for 2 active SIM cards

Third: removable battery

Fourth: 4-core processor

Fifth: microSD support

Scope of delivery

Everything is packed in a simple white cardboard box. Inside there is a smartphone in a transport film, a warranty card with stickers, a one-piece 0.7A charger and a 1500 mAh battery. By “solid” we mean that the adapter is solid. You will not be able to remove the USB cable - this is not provided initially.

Design

The baby is available in 3 colors: white, gold and black. The latter option is in particular demand among target audience. The dimensions of the device are really miniature - 121.6x63.1x10.8 mm, which seems simply tiny compared to its competitors. But the weight is purely smartphone-like - 123 grams. Small, plump, grippy and perfectly put together.

All controls are traditionally scattered along the left (volume) and right (power) sides. At the top there is a headphone jack, at the bottom there is a microUSB for charging. Back cover removable. Underneath it lies a battery, 2 SIM slots and a microSD compartment up to 128 GB.

In general, belonging to Samsung is visible to the naked eye. Typical body shape and location of the main speaker, traditional mechanical Home button and touch keys on the bottom panel. "Duos" nameplate next to the logo. It seems like a hackneyed appearance, but it instantly sinks into memory.

Display

The screen on the Samsung Galaxy J1 mini is not the most outstanding. Although many are already spoiled by luxurious IPS and Super AMOLED matrices, total calibration of everything, wild viewing angles and other aspects. But this is already the prerogative of the high price segment. Here we also have a 4-inch TFT screen with a resolution of 800x480. Not the brightest in the sun, but readability is good.

The responsiveness of the display is excellent. Many will be upset by the support for only two simultaneous touches, but first try placing all five fingers on the panel so that they move freely across the touchscreen.

Another thing is that the screen is not covered with tempered glass, so you should take care in advance to protect it from scratches. The familiar film is perfect for these purposes.

Autonomy

The 1500 mAh battery can provide up to 7 hours of network operation (Wi-Fi/3G), up to 8 hours of continuous talk time, or 30 hours in player mode. All that remains is to find that poor guy who will be forced to talk to his interlocutor for 8 hours non-stop, but there are all sorts of cases. The audibility is excellent.

In real conditions, the Galaxy J1 mini can withstand a day of maximum load or up to three days in dialer mode and mail client. The display resolution, not the most hasty and “gluttonous” processor, resolution and matrix type have an effect. And if you activate maximum energy saving, you can win up to four days.

Performance

The main driving mechanism of this smartphone is the Spreadtrum SC8830 processor, which has 4 cores of 1.2 GHz. In fact, a 2-core screen could handle this screen resolution, but why not. But the magic happens with RAM. Apparently Samsung is happy to install 768 MB of memory, although it would be much more humane to see 1 GB or 512 MB. By the way, J1 mini 2016 is far from the only device with such a surprise.

Performance is budget but sufficient. The interface does not set speed records, but no slowdowns, freezes or other incorrect moments were noticed.

The volume of built-in storage is only 8 GB, while the OS with applications “eats off” almost half, and a little more than four are available to the user. Although there is an expansion slot for microSD up to 128 GB inclusive. Another thing is that no one will put such a capacity in a budget device. But it's still nice.

Let's say right away that the phone is definitely not for games (if only for casual ones). But for good old calls and trips in the glove compartment of a car (as a backup player) it’s a great option.

The device runs Android 5.1.1 out of the box. We must pay tribute to the company, because many analogues from the Middle Kingdom are still content with only version 4.4.2, or even 4.2. Lollipop wins big in terms of functionality, energy saving, features and appearance. Although the Galaxy J1 mini has TouchWiz installed, many of the features of stock Android are simply not visible in their original form.

A nice addition is the FM radio, which works when a headset is connected. Otherwise, a complete office suite, including a voice recorder, calculator, notes and a gallery with a media player.

Camera

The main module sports a 5 megapixel matrix, but is completely devoid of flash and autofocus. This fact is somewhat upsetting, but daylight and minimal patience you can count on good pictures. Samsung's matrices have always been decent, even in ultra-budget models. Chinese counterfeits are completely out of business.

The front camera is modest - with VGA resolution. For conversations on Skype it will do, but nothing more is required from it.

Conclusion

Samsung has done a great job in the more expensive segments, but has not forgotten about ultra-budget products. Galaxy J1 mini 2016 is a living example of this. Yes, it lacks stars in terms of performance and shooting capabilities, but what kind of records can we talk about for that kind of money?

The Chinese market can offer a device with a diagonal of 4.5–5 inches for a similar price, but it will be a terribly slow device without a hint of a brand, clear firmware and a correctly working interface. Moreover, many are purposefully looking for a 4" diagonal.

And let's not forget about excellent autonomy, which will benefit people for whom a phone is just a phone. Loud, unpretentious, with two SIM. This is exactly what a state employee should be.

Review

We bought this device 2 weeks ago. Everything works, there are no breakdowns. We bought it for a very simple purpose - to accomplish phone calls and sometimes access the Internet, we didn’t set any special tasks for the device: convenient notebook, a couple of social networks at hand, a couple of photos if you don’t have a camera. We read other reviews - compact, convenient, the camera is not so great, the battery doesn’t last long. Not God knows what, but... Mark! Suitable for the money. But in the process, it turned out that neither the manufacturer, nor the seller (M-Video), nor in the reviews wrote about it. It is almost impossible to talk on this phone in normal mode. As it turns out, this model does not have a built-in proximity sensor. This means that when you bring the phone to your ear during a conversation, various keys on the screen begin to be pressed randomly during the conversation: holding a call, touch-tone dialing of numbers on the keyboard, various settings functions, turning on the speakerphone, etc. This process is not regulated, because depends on how accidentally you touch the screen with your ear or cheek during a conversation. The button block, which turns on automatically when you make a call, turns off when you double-tap the screen, and the screen itself does not automatically lock when you make a call. This is where the fun begins. At the service center, I was advised to either keep the handset away from my head so as not to touch the screen, or control the movements of my ears (for which special thanks to them). There is only one solution to the problem - manually lock the screen after each incoming call or dialing. I pressed call, placed my hand on the block, talked, and removed it. Somewhere online this smartphone was recommended as simple and convenient for older people: few bells and whistles, easy to make calls. But if you buy your grandmother such a smartphone, then there is a greater chance that you will not be able to talk to her. But write via messengers - please. Well, the saddest thing is service centers, do not consider this state of affairs abnormal. If you can’t talk, it’s your problem, everything is fine with us, that’s design feature, and the fact that you were not warned about this is a complaint not to us (although this is not written about in the technical specifications), but to the store (where they also do not warn about this, you cannot get any information from the sellers at all). But it is impossible to return the product back. Technically, everything is in good order, but only unused goods can be returned to the store. How can you check your phone to make sure it is not in use? In short, I bought it - suffer. This is my first. And I'm very disappointed.
