The corner of the protective glass has come off. The glass does not stick to the edges

Today we will tell you whether a smartphone really needs protective glass and whether it can protect the gadget if it falls. We will also tell you which glass to choose and how difficult it is to install it.

The need for glass

When buying a smartphone, sellers often offer to add a protective glass as an addition, assuring that you absolutely cannot live without it. If the display breaks, they continue, it will be easier to buy new phone, plus scratches.

They are right that the price tag for replacing the display can reach up to 60% of the cost of the device. But otherwise there are nuances. If the device is budget and does not have the so-called protective tempered glass, then yes, it is better to stick protection on it, otherwise scratches will not be avoided, and even if it falls, the glass will absorb a little.

But the devices are average price category with a screen made using Gorilla Glass or Asahi technology, you don’t need a piece of plastic 0.33 or even 0.22 millimeters thick, such a device is not afraid of scratches. Displays with Gorilla Glass are practically scratch-resistant.

Impact on sensor operation

A persistent myth is that glass impairs the performance of the sensor. In fact, this is not true. The only thing is that the protective glass may not have an oleophobic coating, and there will simply be a bunch of fingerprints on the display, and the finger will glide worse than on a “bare” screen. The smartphone sensor may not respond well if the glass is poorly glued.

Glass or film

Glass is a relatively recent phenomenon. At first they were popular on devices iPhone companies and Sony, but later the trend spread to all other models.

Of course, it is better to glue the glass. Firstly, it is much easier to glue than film, especially on a new device. Secondly, it provides, albeit small, additional protection.

But there is an important clarification here. If you have a 2.5D display with rounded edges, then a regular protective glass will not adhere to the edges or will not be able to cover the entire screen. Therefore, it is necessary to clarify whether the glass will accurately cover the entire screen.

Real cost

Prices for glass sometimes reach up to 2000 rubles, which is not very cheap. Is the high price justified?

Not really. There are really expensive glasses from manufacturers such as Samsung, LG, etc. They are produced for curved displays, and there are also glasses with colored frames to match the color of the device. Their price tag can reach up to 1000 rubles. The purchase price of simple transparent glasses from little-known manufacturers is 50-150 rubles per piece.

Which glass to choose

Available on the market huge amount glass from different manufacturers, which one to choose?

Curved screen

If you have a smartphone with a curved screen, then it is advisable to buy special glass with a 2.5D or 3D effect. Otherwise, it will not stick to the edges or will not cover the entire screen. Moreover, the inscription “2.5D” on the glass packaging does not mean anything. It is better to ask the seller whether it is exactly full screen or not.

Colored frame

It is better to avoid glass with colored frames. If transparent glasses are glued over the entire surface, then in colored glasses there is glue only on the edges. They also often have a “gasoline stain” on the screen that cannot be removed. .

Oleophobic coating

A good oleophobic coating prevents finger grease from remaining on the screen. The screen on such devices is always clean. For protective glass, this coating may be worse than that of a smartphone, or may be completely absent. Therefore, before buying glass, it is better to move it over it and see if there are any fingerprints and how easily your finger glides.

Matte or glossy

This is of course a matter of taste. In our opinion, glossy glass is better. Although it does glare in the sun, you don’t have to turn the brightness to maximum to see the image.

Thickness

In fact, it doesn’t really matter how thick the protective glass is - 0.22 or 0.33 millimeters, you won’t notice the difference.

Installation

Many people think that there is some special glue for installation or that it requires special equipment. In fact, there is nothing complicated about gluing, and the glass packaging usually contains instructions with pictures.

1) First, you need to degrease the surface of the screen and remove all debris from it. To do this, the manufacturer includes alcohol and dry wipes with the glasses.

2) After cleaning the screen, apply the glass, having first removed it from protective layer. There is a special sticker on the glass for this.

3) Carefully place the glass on the screen so that it does not go beyond the edges. That's all, actually. The glass is glued.

If it doesn't work out the first time, it's okay! You can pick up the glass with something, such as a toothpick, and try to re-glue it. If debris has managed to get under the screen, the glass can also be lifted and the debris removed using the adhesive side of the tape.

A smartphone is an expensive thing and requires careful handling. One of the most vulnerable places is the screen. Many people repeatedly drop their phone during use and carry it in a bag where, in addition to it, there are keys and other sharp objects.

As a result, chips, scratches, cracks appear quite quickly even on a new smartphone, and even the screen may even break. But it is quite possible to extend the life of the device if you use modern technologies, for example, purchase and install protective glass.

Outwardly, it is similar to film with similar tasks; glass appears transparent and flexible, but due to its higher density it is more reliable and durable.

Phone screen protector It costs a little more than film, but it justifies its cost, as it reduces the likelihood of the screen breaking to almost zero.

What is a protective glass for a smartphone - what functions does it perform?

Before you know how to glue protective glass to a smartphone screen, let's look at its features.

The advantages include:

  • resistance to damage and scratches - you can check this with keys or a knife or scissors - there will be no marks left,
  • shock absorption - even if the phone falls face down, it will not break, only the protective glass will be damaged, the fragments of which will not fly in different directions,
  • holds securely - more durable than film, easy to glue at home without special experience.

Flaws:

  • the phone will become bulkier and heavier,
  • buying and sticking glass will cost a decent amount,
  • Requires careful installation.

On average, the thickness of protective glass is from 0.2 to 0.3 mm.

Glass has five layers:

  1. Oleophobic - provides ease of sliding of fingers across the screen, while fingerprints can be easily wiped off with a cloth, protects from moisture,
  2. Protective – responsible for protecting the screen from scratches and cracks,
  3. Anti-glare - prevents the screen from dimming,
  4. Containing - if the screen does manage to break, it will hold the fragments,
  5. Silicone.

VIDEO DESCRIPTION

How much does protective glass for phones cost?

Today, hundreds of companies around the world are engaged in the production of protective glass.

Most budget options, of course, are offered by Chinese companies, whose products can be easily ordered through Aliexpress.

However, the basis of the products of any manufacturer is tempered glass; only the degree of its hardening differs.

The price can vary significantly depending on quality indicators, as well as the reputation of the manufacturer.

So, for iPhone 6 you can purchase anti-reflective glass DF iBlickGlass-03 with a transparent matte surface and a hardness of 9H. The cost starts from 1500 rubles.

As for simpler options, for example, those made in China, the average cost for them starts from 900 rubles. This is almost twice as high compared to films. Many people ask the question: is it worth overpaying?

Maybe stick with film?

The film copes with the task of protecting against scratches, but if dropped, it cannot always protect the screen from cracks. It is more difficult to glue, air bubbles often remain, and dirt quickly gets clogged inside. Glass is more convenient in this regard, it will last longer and provide more reliable protection screen. However, you really have to pay extra for these amenities.

If you don’t glue the glass yourself, you will have to additionally pay for the services of a specialist who will take on this task, and that’s another few hundred rubles. Such masters work in any service centers for phone repair, as well as in stores selling smartphones.

Thus, the cost of purchasing and installing glass on a smartphone will be at least 1,500 rubles, but this is really profitable, because replacing a broken screen will cost an average of 3,000 rubles, especially if we're talking about about Apple products.

Content

The screen of any communication gadget needs protection. Even if you purchased latest model iPhone, then do not neglect the opportunity to install additional film on the display. This will extend the life of the phone and allow it to look attractive longer. Mechanical damage such as scratches and shocks will not be terrible if you know how to stick protective glass on your phone. The task is not easy, but if you follow the instructions, you can do it at home without outside help.

How to properly stick protective glass on a smartphone

For a beginner, the procedure may seem complicated, but a few training sessions will make you a real specialist. It is worth noting that there is no significant difference in whether we glue protective glass to iPhone 5, other phone models or a tablet. The procedure remains the same. For an inexperienced person, it is better to start from the back panel of the gadget and then move on to the screen.

Required materials and tools

If you just purchased a smartphone, then it is important to understand how to apply protective glass to your phone. The device display is very sensitive to mechanical damage. Just being in your pocket, the gadget will be damaged by coins, fingernails or keys. Even minimal scratches can cause bubbles to appear during application. The same goes for situations where you just want to replace your old phone protection.

For the procedure you will need:

  • alcohol wipe;
  • dry cloth;
  • special liquid for cleaning TV or computer screens;
  • tape or dust bag;
  • glass.

Step by step instructions

An important point is the preparation of the workplace. Choose a room with minimal dust. A kitchen or bathroom is best. There are too many textiles in the bedroom, which attract particles. Such a moment interferes with the correct process and can complicate the procedure. If you don't know how to stick a protective glass on your phone, follow these steps:

  1. Wash your hands with soap, then place the equipment, protective glass for iPhone 6 or other phone on a clean, smooth surface.
  2. Before starting the procedure, remove the old film from the device. To do this, slightly pull the edge at a 60 degree angle.
  3. Use an alcohol wipe or cleaning cloth to remove dirt from your phone screen. This product is sold in hardware stores or made independently. To do this, you need to mix 5:1 water and alcohol, add a little dish gel to it.
  4. Rub the display until it shines. If there are dust particles left, we go over the surface with tape or a dust collector.
  5. We take the device out of the packaging and remove the film from it.
  6. We install the protection so that it matches the central button of the gadget and the speakers.
  7. Slide your finger down the center from top to bottom to secure the overlay.
  8. We expel the remaining air from the center to the edges using a credit card or a spatula, which is often included.

Do not press too hard on the screen to remove small air bubbles. They will disappear on their own within a few days after the procedure. As a result, you should get a smooth, perfectly even screen coating. Although the tempered glass on the phone is only 0.18 mm thick, it perfectly protects the device from mechanical damage.

Is it possible to re-glue the protective glass on the phone?

High-quality surfaces for iPhone 5s and other gadget models can be reused. To do this, you need to carefully remove the glass and treat the adhesive side with formic alcohol. Wipe it lightly with a cloth soaked in this liquid and let it drain for a while. Then set the protection according to the speaker and button. Using light movements from the center to the edges, expel air and liquid. Small bubbles will disappear on their own within a day.

Protective glass. What and why?

The main purpose of protective glass is to protect the smartphone screen and reduce the likelihood of damage. A good safety glass is a multi-layer design that includes a polymer that resists scratches and light impacts, and a thin layer of real tempered glass. IN protective glass Nillkin and DiGi use a high quality layer of Japanese tempered glass Asahi Glass.

A layer of tempered glass allows you to redistribute the impact impulse in case of a strong fall. It is the presence of this component that explains the “cobweb” when the protective glass breaks.
Whether to use protective glass or not is up to everyone to decide.

But, given the cost of replacing the display and the difficulty of finding original spare parts(in the case of the iPhone), purchasing a protective glass becomes one of the very first steps to protect your smartphone.

What is a 2.5D screen?

Smartphones with slightly convex screens have been appearing for a long time, although it still seems like it was just a couple of years ago.

This effect is achieved by rounding the edges of a flat "2D" display in the Z axis. This effect can be more or less extreme, depending on how much curved edges are required. Even a slight curve can be used to make the edges of the glass feel smoother, while a larger curve will make the device look more stylish.

2.5D glass is produced in much the same way as flat glass panels, only with additional shaping when it comes to cutting the glass to the desired size.

The advantages of 2.5D glass are purely ergonomic and aesthetic.

2.5D screen and protective glass.

The 2.5D screen is beautiful, convenient and stylish. But, unfortunately, it does not add strength to the smartphone display and does not eliminate the need to use protective glass.

Unfortunately, a number of difficulties arise here.

The specificity of the rounded edges does not make it possible to make protective glass over the entire display and leaves the edge unprotected.

For many display manufacturers, physical rounding begins on the visible part of the display. And although it is not visible, it is precisely this that does not allow the protective glass to be properly glued.

As a result, if you glue protective glass onto such a display, the edges of the glass will hang in the air and will not stick.

This specificity is not a defect, which must be communicated to the end buyer before gluing the glass!

Options for solving the problem

There are only 4 basic solutions to the problem of gluing glass to a 2.5D screen:

1. Many manufacturers make protective glass in smaller sizes.
The advantage is that this glass is completely adjacent to the screen.
A noticeable disadvantage is that the glass does not cover the entire visible area of the display.

2. The second solution is also very popular and can often be found in high-quality glass. The glass is made to the largest possible size, down to the perceptible rounding area. The main advantage is that the glass completely covers the display. It is easy to use and when the screen is on, the area that is not taped is practically invisible. The downside is that the edges of the glass are not glued and this effect is noticeable when the screen is turned off.

3. For Apple iPhone They produce Full Cover and Full Cover 3D protective glasses, which have painted frames around the display. The glass is glued to the entire screen. The protective frame perfectly follows the shape of the smartphone and completely protects the screen.
In the South-Contract catalog this type presented by models:
DIGI Glass Screen (3D Silicone Edge) for iPhone 6/6s,
DIGI Glass Screen (Full Cover) for iPhone 7 and 7 Plus,
NILLKIN Glass Screen (AP+) for iPhone 6/6s and 6/6s Plus, iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.

4. Unfortunately, protective glass manufacturers produce this type of glass only for iPhone. For many popular items on Android, there is Full Cover glass, but made using a different technology. Externally, it is very similar to Full Cover for iPhone, but there is no adhesive layer on the visible part of the display.

The glass is glued only along the perimeter and is held along the edge. This negatively affects the touch responsiveness of the display. In addition, the glass peels off very easily and dust gets under it. Due to the specific design and the large percentage negative reviews end users, this type of glass is not included in the Yug-Kontrakt product range.

Replacing your screen protector can be a simple matter if you follow a few guidelines and use the right tools, otherwise you'll end up with an uneven, blistered finish.

First you need to carefully remove the old glass. It is important to remember here that the glass is attached to the screen not with glue, but due to static. And all attempts to tamper with it in any way will end in scratches on the case and display.

A special suction cup can be either a helper or your nightmare. If you use Velcro incorrectly, you can damage the sensor, cables and screen module. You need to act smoothly and carefully.

To install glass you need to prepare:

  • plastic card or mediator - it’s better to take 2 pieces;
  • a silicone suction cup (if you replaced the glass, you can do without it);
  • napkin or lint-free cloth;
  • alcohol glass cleaner;
  • rubber medical gloves.

If all of the above is present, replacing the protective glass will not take much time.

Step by step work

Before work, you need to make sure that there is no dust, lint or hair on your fingers, or it is better to just wear thin gloves.

Then install a special suction cup on the part of the screen that is less damaged. It needs to be pressed down and glued to the corner of the screen. Taking a plastic card or a pick, begin to gradually pull the Velcro towards you, this must be done smoothly and gradually increasing force. Once the glass starts to separate, use a card to peel it off. When most of the glass has separated, you can quickly tear it off.

How to glue protective glass on your phone

Gluing new glass

Before gluing the new glass, make sure that there are no fingerprints or dust left on the screen. To do this, wipe the screen with a napkin and alcohol solution.

Next steps:

  • Use gloved hands to grasp the edges of the protective glass.
  • The protective film must be removed as close to the screen as possible so that dust does not stick to the glass.
  • Try on the protective glass over the screen so that all the cutouts are in place.
  • Slowly lower the glass onto the screen, pressing and simultaneously smoothing from the center to the corners. A napkin or plastic card will help you here.

If dust or lint does get in, peel off the glass to the “dirty” area, blow out the excess or remove it with tweezers and glue the glass in place.

Such simple manipulations will help you glue the protective coating yourself.

How to stick glass on a smartphone?

Every smartphone owner understands that the screen is the most weak point on the phone. It is with the screen that problems most often occur. If the phone is dropped, the chance of the screen breaking or cracking is close to 100%. And any phone falls sooner or later, since this is the thing that a person uses constantly, one might say - from morning to evening.

Read also: How to stick the film on your smartphone yourself

To protect the screen of your favorite smartphone, smart people came up with protective glass. It is sold in any salon or store where you can buy a smartphone, and costs around 10-20 dollars.

How to properly stick protective glass on your phone

It is much cheaper to order protective glass in China.

You can stick it on with your own hands, right at home, for which you must strictly follow the instructions from the manufacturer. In general, sticking protective or bulletproof glass on yourself for the first time is not as difficult as it might seem at first. Properly applied protection to the screen will protect your phone from many troubles.

How to stick bubble-free glass on your smartphone yourself

To properly stick the second glass onto the screen, you need to follow a few simple rules:

  1. The screen must be wiped with a special cloth, removing fingerprints, grease and other traces.
  2. Using a stream of air, before sticking, (you can use a medical blower) blow off all the dust.
  3. Degrease the screen with a special liquid, which manufacturers usually put in a box with tempered, armored or other protective glass. Bubbles under the glass are the result of poor cleaning.
  4. Glue the second glass with your own hands so that there is no dirt, dust, or air bubbles under it.

To glue shockproof glass onto your smartphone yourself, you will also need scissors and tape, which will make the work process easier.

We take the purchased glass and look at which side it has a sticker on. By pulling this sticker, we remove the protection. But you don’t need to remove it right away, as there is a way to make the process of even gluing easier. For this we need tape.

We cut off three small pieces of tape, apply the glass to the phone, and on one side glue the glass to the back surface of the phone. The glass will be fixed with tape on one side so that it can be opened like a door. And the tape plays the role of loops. This makes it much easier to stick the glass evenly.

We apply the protective glass and see if it lies evenly. If it fits, it should follow the shape of the screen.

If everything is smooth, pull the sticker and remove the protection. If the protection cannot be removed, then you can use a thin sheet of paper or your fingernails to pry up the protection and release the applied glass. Once again we wipe the screen and close our book from the phone and shockproof glass. Lightly press your finger into the center and admire how the second glass sticks to the screen on its own without bubbles. If air bubbles appear underneath (which should not ideally be the case), use a soft cloth to push it to the edges and get rid of them. You can glue glass perfectly only if you act carefully and slowly.

Remove the tape and clean off the glue. The gluing or glass replacement is complete.

How to re-glue a cracked plate glass to a new one

Replacing glass if it is cracked begins with removing the old protective glass. How to remove it? Very simple. You will need a sheet of paper or plastic, preferably thinner. We are trying to drive it out of the corner under the old protective glass (any kind, even 3D, even regular armored glass). As soon as you succeed, you need to try to lift the glass up. Do not press too hard, otherwise you may simply break off a corner instead of replacing it - the glass, if already cracked, will be extremely unreliable.

The old glass has been removed and the screen needs to be cleaned again before attaching the new one. Next, gluing the tempered glass will proceed as we described above. It is better to carefully glue the glass right away than to re-glue it, so be careful.

How to stick protective glass on a smartphone at home if the size doesn’t fit

If you ordered a second glass from China, there is a high probability that it will not fit. If it is a little smaller than necessary - no big deal, in principle - it will perform its function. If the glass is a little larger, it is worse, since there is a risk of it peeling off at the most inopportune moment. And it’s inconvenient to use a smartphone with a protruding screen, so in this case it’s better to replace the glass and re-stick another one. You can remove old or broken glass yourself.

What kind of glass are there that can be glued to a smartphone?

  1. 3d - this protective glass not only protects the screen, but also makes it more attractive by rounding the corners. You can stick it yourself or in the salon.
  2. Bulletproof glass is quite durable and protects the screen from cracks when falling even on stones and tiles. Many manufacturers produce just such glass. It is better to buy and stick such glass right away, especially if you often drop your phone.
  3. Tempered glass (or tempered glass) is highly durable and protects the screen from breaking.
  4. Shockproof is suitable for those who often drop their phone or have the habit of throwing it on the table. It is as easy to stick as other types.
  5. Liquid - applied as a spray, provides oleophobic, hydrophobic and antibacterial coating. Saves from small cracks. Can be reapplied.

The first four types refer to invoices and have many similarities. Before you buy an overlay glass, you need to know the exact dimensions of your smartphone screen. Liquid protection is suitable for any device. Even if you handle your phone carefully, it is better to stick glass with an additional oleophobic coating.

What to do if the glass glued to your smartphone comes off

If additional glass recently glued to a smartphone comes off, it means it was most likely defective. This happens if you bought it from a Chinese manufacturer. There's nothing you can do here, so all you have to do is get rid of poor quality goods and buy new glass.

If the reason is not the additional glass, then you can try to clean the screen again - after all, the second protection will be ideal only if the grease, dust and dirt are completely removed from the smartphone.

Important: The Glass (Gorilla) screen, which is considered extremely durable, also needs additional protection. Therefore, even for such smartphones it is important to choose glass. In addition, you can choose a rear glass to protect the body.

The main purpose of a protective glass for a smartphone is to protect the screen from falls, bumps, and scratches. Such glass can serve for a very long time, but over time, chips, cracks, scratches still appear on it and not only deteriorate appearance phone, but also its functionality - the viewing angle of the smartphone is reduced, the sensor may not work correctly. In this case, you need to remove the old glass and stick on a new one, but the removal process is not the easiest task if you don’t know all the nuances.

What you need to remove the old protective glass from your phone

It is almost impossible to remove the glass without having anything on hand. And if a regular film can be picked up with a fingernail and peeled off, this will not work with glass. You will need:

  • medical gloves – desirable, but not required;
  • a flat object, such as a plastic card or guitar pick;
  • alcohol-containing glass cleaner or other alcohol-containing substance (vodka, cologne, perfume, etc.);
  • lint-free napkin;
  • silicone suction cup – preferable.

With this kit, removing the protective glass from your smartphone screen will not be difficult, and the whole process will take 5 minutes. Often, the kit with protective glass already contains all the necessary accessories.

How to remove protective glass from a phone - precautions

The protective glass and the smartphone screen are two perfectly flat surfaces that stick very firmly to each other, and the reason for this is electrostatic forces (with rare exceptions, glue). It is almost impossible to peel them off from each other using a flat object (for example, a knife), but there is a possibility of seriously damaging the smartphone.

It is also unlikely that you will be able to remove the protective glass using only a suction cup, although the chances are greater than in the case of a knife. If the glass is damaged, then most likely the suction cup will simply bounce off without any effect. This is the best case scenario. In the worst case, the sensor will move away from the body, and then you will have to change the entire matrix of the phone, which will be very expensive.

Removing the old protective glass from the phone

  • First of all, put gloves on your hands, or if you don’t have them, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and wait until they dry. This will save you from unnecessary streaks on the screen.
  • Find the most intact corner of the glass, if it is damaged, away from chips and cracks, and attach a suction cup there.
  • Under the glass in the corner where the suction cup is located, insert a card or pick. To do this, pull the suction cup slowly and smoothly, but not sharply, otherwise you may tear off the sensor or screen entirely. If there is no suction cup, then try to carefully make a gap using a card.
  • Next, you need to smoothly move the card deeper, peeling off the glass. This needs to be done slowly; if the screen is very large (for example, on a tablet), then it is better to work with two or three cards at the same time.
  • When the glass has almost completely come off, pull the suction cup towards you and it will come off.

As you can see, this is not a very complicated procedure, the main thing is to follow the rules.

Gluing new glass to the phone screen

  • When the old glass is disposed of, you can begin the process of gluing the new one. This should be done with clean hands in a non-dusty room. Wash your hands thoroughly, clean your phone screen with alcohol, and get a new screen protector.
  • Remove one film from the side that you want to stick directly to the phone. Keep the glass as close to the surface of the phone as possible. Align it carefully, making sure that all the holes match, and only then lower the glass completely onto the screen.
  • If bubbles appear, they can be easily squeezed out by running a dry cloth over the glass. The last step is to remove the second film and your phone is protected.

It’s quite simple to remove and stick on the protective glass, and you don’t have to go to a salon for this. mobile communications, you can quickly do everything with your own hands.
