The senior device of the L-series of LG smartphones was the latest to enter the market, almost at the Christmas tree. The smartphone is equipped with a huge 4.7-inch screen, a dual-core processor and a gigabyte RAM. At the same time, it inherits all the characteristic features of the series: both the angular design and the economical approach to creating L-line models. While the price of this model is melting before our eyes, let's see how worthy it is of attention and wallets.
Specifications
Like other representatives of the L-series, the Optimus L9 smartphone does not represent a technical revolution and is moderately equipped for its category. Moreover, unlike his younger brothers, he is the only one with enough high performance and a screen with an acceptable pixel density (234 ppi). However, the position of the eldest in the line obliges. LG Optimus L9 is equipped with a dual-core TI OMAP 4430 processor and 1 GB of RAM. Let me remind you that we saw the same combination, for example, in Panasonic Eluga DL1. Only the last one worked under Android control 2.3 and showed poor performance for a smartphone with a dual-core processor. Optimus L9, like the rest of the line, came out immediately with Android 4.0 on board. I repeat, there are no complaints about its performance.
Otherwise, the Optimus L9 is equipped typically for a mid-class smartphone: a five-megapixel camera, a screen with a resolution of 540x960 pixels, 4 GB of internal memory, moderate capacious battery(2150 mAh).
Appearance
All LG models belonging to the L-series are like two peas in a pod. Optimus L9 is no exception. The body is a strict rectangle with a silver border. The back cover is made of regular textured plastic, like the younger models. The Home key is hardware. True, due to the screen size - 4.7 inches - the smartphone is no longer associated with younger models, but with LG Optimus 4X HD. Intuitively, I liked the Optimus L9 more than the 4X HD, and I've never been able to fully understand why. It seemed more comfortable to work with, despite the lower screen resolution. Perhaps the reason for this is the hardware Home key (I constantly had problems with the touch one on the 4X HD due to accidental presses), or perhaps a different location of the screen lock button. Still, in a device with a 4.7-inch diagonal, placing it on the side seems more convenient than on the top - try reaching out and unlocking the phone with one hand.
It is also possible that the new product is 8 grams lighter and visually seems thinner (although this is not the case). For some reason it just feels better.

Although the presence of a hardware Home key makes the Optimus L9 more convenient to use, the smartphone's control buttons are not perfect. The Home key is thin and located almost flush with the body. At first, this annoyed me (as with the Samsung Galaxy S III Mini), because it was so thin, you had to hit it with the pad of your finger. But at some point I caught myself no longer noticing the shortcomings of this form.
The other two control buttons, as usual, are touch-sensitive. With the illumination of the pictograms turned off, they are completely invisible on the body, but in principle it is impossible to miss them.

By the way, another difference between this model and the flagship 4X HD is that there are no ribbed plastic inserts on its side faces; they are smooth, with a “metal-like” coating. The 4.7-inch handsome smartphone screen, although it has a resolution of 540x960 pixels that is small for its size, is still superior to younger models in terms of pixel density. The figure of 234 ppi can be called sane for the category to which the model belongs. Of course, geeks will squeal with displeasure; the Galaxy Nexus (gray for the same money) has an HD screen resolution, and those models with 540x960 often have a diagonal of 4.3 inches and, accordingly, a higher pixel density. And if you look closely, the pixels on the L9 screen will still be noticeable. But this is far from such a heartbreaking sight as, for example, the screens of LG Optimus L7 and LG Optimus L5. And if you remember the cost of the device and the length of the diagonal, then complaints about the resolution disappear. Moreover, the screen is of high quality, it catches your eye instantly. Rich and pleasing to the eye colors, high brightness, wide viewing angles - all this is provided by the IPS matrix of the screen.
In an attempt to test the Optimus L9's screen for damage resistance, we tried to scratch it. It was not possible to do this on purpose. However, it later turned out that there was already a small scratch on the screen, but somehow we didn’t notice it right away.
Performance, autonomy and interface
This time I have no complaints about the performance of the L-series smartphone. It corresponds to the category of smartphones to which it belongs this model. The interface literally flies under your fingers, applications of various voracity open and close quickly and work smoothly.
Performance test results confirm personal impressions of the work. Based on the number of points scored in AnTuTu, Optimus L9 shows one of the best results among dual-core smartphones reviewed by the editors gg, the same can be said about NenaMark2. The result of the Vellamo browser performance test can also be called quite good, but it is somewhere at the level of competitors (with the exception, perhaps, of models on Android 4.1, in particular Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which significantly outperform Android 4.0 devices in this test).
The smartphone is equipped with a 2150 mAh battery, despite this, there is no need to talk about amazing autonomy. As a result, the user will receive the same standard day or two of work, depending on the activity of using resources.
On top of Android 4.0.4 the smartphone uses branded shell LG. She is already familiar to readers gg according to previous reviews of devices from this manufacturer. I don’t see the point in describing its capabilities in detail; Technoslav Bergamot dwelled on them in detail in his review of LG Optimus L7, and I talked about all sorts of additional features and frills in my review of LG Optimus 4X HD. I like the shell for its simplicity and ease of adding widgets and applications to the desktop. Some will probably like the variety of options for personalizing the appearance.

The first device that comes to mind is last year's Samsung Galaxy Nexus - it and the Optimus L9 are quite similar in characteristics, and the price of the Galaxy has dropped significantly over the year. Although it is completely wrong to put them together. Galaxy Nexus is a device for geeks; you won’t find it on the shelf of every store you come across, as you probably will with the Optimus L9. If you choose a competitor among Samsung devices, then this is probably the Galaxy S III Mini. After all, the Optimus L9 from its manufacturer also seems to be the next model after the flagship. But the Galaxy S III Mini is most likely the lot of those who either find the flagship too big or can’t afford it, but definitely want a more expensive Samsung. Those who will probably be interested in the hero of this review are those who find the Optimus 4X HD too expensive and the Optimus L7 weak. Optimus L9 will be an excellent alternative flagship model, quite productive (albeit with two cores), but with an affordable price and lower screen and camera resolution.
Camera
The smartphone is equipped with a camera that takes pictures with a resolution of 2592x1944 pixels and shoots video in a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. The quality of the photographs can be called quite good, both in good and poor lighting. Although, in truth, you won’t find good sunny days now during the day with fire.

In addition, the smartphone camera can take panoramas. This happens in the same way as in Sony smartphones- that is, painful and uncomfortable. The smartphone must be moved along the line on the screen. If you do it a little faster or a little slower, the shooting will be interrupted. LG has long promised to release updates for one of its most popular smartphones- LG P970 Optimus Black. At first, the release of firmware with the new operating system was planned for the third quarter of 2012, and it was released in September - but in Korea and for smartphones from other markets it was not suitable. As a result, the release date of the firmware with ICS for the whole world was postponed indefinitely.

However, the company did work on the firmware and in early November the European version of V28A with Android 4.0.4 appeared online. The release was unofficial, this version was quite crude, many functions did not work at all as they should. But already on November 10, version V28C appeared, which is the official, but not the final firmware for the LG P970 Optimus Black smartphones. However, there are no significant errors like in the previous version, and the smartphone with this firmware works quite well and reliably.
I got a gadget with Android ICS a few months ago, this samsung tablet Galaxy Tab2, but still a tablet is not a phone and I was very interested in how ICS would work on a phone. I can say with confidence - it works great! ICS itself is a huge step forward compared to Android 2.3, the system has many functions that previously only worked using third-party programs and worked crookedly. If a subscriber from the black list calls, he hears short beeps, as if the number is busy, but nothing happens on the smartphone itself. There is no first beep, no visual alerts, as was the case with third party programs on Android 2.3. At the same time, in the list of calls such a call is displayed as rejected, that is, you still see who exactly called.
The system also has the ability to configure different profiles that switch according to a schedule. The options are quite limited, but they allow you to turn off the sound of calls and messages at the right time, leaving only vibration or turning it off too. I think that for most users this is more than enough.
There is an application called QuickMemo, with which you can take screenshots of the screen by pressing and holding two volume keys for a few seconds. Also, using the program, you can take notes directly on the screen and save them as pictures.
This version of the firmware also does not have various add-ons such as pre-installed clients for various social networks, or many programs from LG. Perhaps someone really needed them, but many rooted the phone and cut them out mercilessly in order to free up the resources of an already not very productive smartphone for more necessary things.
On the forums, many people complain about battery drain in sleep mode - in 99% of cases this happens because Wi-Fi is always on. By default, it is enabled in the settings even in sleep mode and you need to disable it manually if you do not need it. I specifically measured that during the 2.5 hours that the phone was in sleep mode, interrupted by a couple of short calls, the battery charge dropped by only 1%. By the way, now the system has a function to display the charge as a percentage, which I personally always lacked and had to look for third party solutions. In operating mode, I didn’t notice that the battery drained any particularly actively, but perhaps someone will really notice the difference in power consumption.

The body of the new LG Optimus ME is made of plastic. On the front side it is glossy, and on the back it is matte. Based on operating experience, we can say that the plastic is very reliable; traces of cuts and abrasions are faintly visible on it.
At the top of the phone you can see the speaker for calls and voice calls. He is one. As for the volume level, it is slightly above average. At maximum volume, the speaker begins to wheeze. However, in noisy places you will hear the call. This is the main thing.
There is no light sensor or spatial location sensor here.
There is a 2.8-inch touch screen on the front panel of the device. It's capacitive. The display, as is usual with all touchscreen devices, gets dirty very quickly. The device is controlled with your fingers.
Unlike some other touchscreens, the LG P350's screen is practically not recessed into the body. This has a positive effect on management touch display, swiping and scrolling through menus becomes more convenient.

This application is Mail.Ru Agent with support for ICQ, Afisha, VKontakte, RBC, Facebook, Twitter, LG Music club, LG apps club, FB Reader. Testing has shown that for DivX/XviD Optimus ME has a serious limitation on video resolution - up to VGA (640x480). Moreover, it should be less. That is, 632x344 can be played without problems. The rest: MP4 and 3GP, video resolution limitation: up to WVGA (800x480).
