Helium is a program that is designed to backup installed portable device applications. As you know, there are software solutions designed to synchronize phone book, calendar, notes, messages and other data. So, this application works on their principle, but differs in that it is intended for “backup” installed games and programs. Designed this program for those who are going to “move” to a new device, but do not want to “manually” transfer all applications installed on it. One of the key advantages of the program is that it does not require Root rights from the user. This is where the technical formalities end. Next, you create backup copies of application information, saving them either on a memory card or in cloud storage by choice. Helium will also allow you to synchronize several of your devices, even if they are located in different networks– your Google account will be used here. The second tab of the main application window is Restoring data from backups. Helium will detect all archives of this type and restore them. But be sure that you remember the password with which these archives were locked when they were created (if, of course, you locked them at all).

How to save your device data using Carbon Backup?
Most people neglect to back up their data. electronic devices. And this is quite justified, because many data are automatically saved in the Google cloud storage and can be restored at any time. But, if this is not enough for you and you are not sure of the reliability of such storage, then you should use special applications for backup. If you have a sufficient level of knowledge, experience and administrator rights, you can use the Titanium Backup application. But if you only have access to the user account on the device and do not have enough knowledge in this area, then you should pay attention to the simpler Carbon Backup application from the creators of ClockWorkMod.
Is it worth rooting?
If you do not feel confident or lack of experience does not allow you to engage in rooting (obtaining absolute rights to control the device), then it is better not to experiment in order to maintain the integrity of the system and the working condition of the device. Backup
Carbon Backup has two tabs "Backup" and "Restore and sync". In each tab you will find a list of applications installed on your device, with the ability to select which ones will be saved. Starting with Carbon Backup version 1.1.0.0, the application allows you to make a copy set parameters settings, SMS message storage, user dictionary and Wi-FI profiles (if you have administrator rights). Carbon Backup also has a control panel in the form of a darkened area at the bottom of the screen. To open the menu, you need to pull up this panel. Among other options, the "Select All" and "Deselect all" functions will open, making it much easier for those who do not plan to make selective changes to the system. It's also worth paying attention to the additional section at the end of the list of applications. Data in this partition cannot be deleted, even if you have administrator rights.
Carbon Backup saves copies of apps in APK format, so you don't have to go back to the store to reinstall Play Store. However, such files take up too much space. Therefore, Carbon Backup has the ability to create a different type of copy "App Data Only", which allows you to save only the individual settings of each application without copying the program itself. Such copies are much more mobile and compact.

Where and how to save backups?
Even before the backup begins, the application will give you a choice of several file storage locations. You can save the backup to internal memory device or in an external cloud storage such as Dropbox, HoldBit, Google Drive, or Box (if you have the Premium version of Carbon Backup). It is also possible to schedule a backup of your system. To do this, just select a schedule and storage locations, and the application will do everything itself in a timely manner.
In addition to choosing a day of the week and a specific time, you can choose to create a backup only if the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network or while charging at the right time. Adjustable schedule settings have their own separate icon located to the right of the “Backup” icon preview, which allows you to edit the storage location of the backup files.
Also note that the clock icon located on the top toolbar of Carbon Backup allows you to view a timeline of events that you have already scheduled. To remove something from this list, simply press and hold the line with the event you want to cancel.
When you start a backup, an Android system message appears on the screen, allowing you to set a password to encrypt the copied data. But you will have to act quickly as this alert only appears for a few seconds. In addition, further recovery of the password if lost will be impossible, so select it in advance.
Recovery
When you switch to the "Restore and Sync" tab, you will have access to a list of all possible cloud storage locations where you already have data and where copies are stored on the internal memory of the device itself. In addition, you will be able to see other Carbon Backup clients running through your Wi-Fi network. It is worth noting that the Carbon Backup application has recently implemented support for saving data from multiple devices into one storage cloud. All these devices are displayed in the form of a drop-down list located at the top of the screen after the icon for selecting where to save data. The list will display the name of the device you are using on at the moment and the location of your shared data storage. Note that when using Dropbox storage, you will find backup files created by Carbon Backup at Dropbox\Apps\ClockworkMod Carbon or in the Dropbox and Google Drive folders at com.koushikdutta.backup. Unfortunately, we do not have an account in Box storage, so we cannot say the address for storing data on this resource.
Selecting files to restore is identical to selecting backup items. You can select some files, select the entire list, or deselect all data. Next, simply click the "Restore" button and Carbon Backup will begin restoring your backup data. This will cause the Android system message to appear again, allowing you to enter a password if you set one when you created the backup.
Backup and restore from PC
Carbon Backup comes with a web interface that allows you to view installed applications or your device's settings through a browser. To connect this interface, you must press the menu button “…” and select “PC Download” from the list. After this, the application will display the IP address, which must be entered into the browser open on your personal computer to view the Carbon Backup web interface. You can also quickly enable or disable the server using big button controls on the device screen.
The web interface allows you to select all or several installed applications, including system settings and Wi-Fi. After selecting the data you need, you need to click the blue "Start Backup" button in the browser and archive file will be transferred from the device to the PC via home network. Please note that if you want to password protect your backups, then, as in all previous cases, you will need to enter the password on the device itself when starting the copy. You will not be able to enter the password from your computer desktop.
Recovering data from a PC works in a similar way. You will also need to specify the location where the backups were saved and drag the data to the application web page in the browser or select required file using the navigator. After this, the data will be copied to your device. If backup was protected by a password, you will need to enter it from the device when the corresponding system message Android. Let us remind you that the message disappears quite quickly, so the password must be entered immediately without delay.
Transferring files from your PC to your device may take some time, even if you only saved application settings. The volume of data can occupy hundreds of megabytes, and with a full backup it can reach several gigabytes. Therefore, if you have made a full backup, it is better to choose the evening or night time to start data recovery, so as not to waste time waiting for the process to complete. Once the recovery is complete, the server will automatically shut down.
Sync apps between Android devices
In addition to the ability to view applications installed on the device through the browser personal computer Carbon Backup can list the apps of other devices connected via Wi-Fi. To do this, in the "Restore and Sync" tab, select "Refresh Device List". After this, the application will begin checking devices using Carbon Backup in your local network. After creating the list, you will be able to view applications installed on all found devices. In addition, you can use the recovery function to write the found application to your device.
In order to copy an application, you need to drag its icon, and not just click the desired line. This method is very attractive from a security point of view, because in this case there is no possibility of accidental copying of data.
The synchronization feature can be useful if, for example, you play a game on multiple devices. You can save your game achievements and copy them to another device yourself, thereby continuing the game from the place where you last saved. In addition, using synchronization, you can copy useful applications without visiting Play Store store. We have not tested the interaction of devices with different Google accounts, but, most likely, in such a case, copying data will be complicated by DRM restrictions for the purpose of copyright protection. This issue will be especially acute when trying to copy paid applications to a device with a different account.
