Do not forget that, first of all, Xiaomi releases a product for its domestic market and only after some time is the global version released, or an update in the form of international firmware. However, many do not pay attention to this, since essentially the built-in functionality remains the same, and localizers sometimes work faster than Xiaomi manages to release the next update, for which special thanks to them, so no one experiences any particular discomfort from this.
Where to buy Xiaomi Mi Smart Network Speaker
We bought an acoustic system, the price was about $60. Looks like this is one of those rare cases where an item can be found well below it. By the way, you can see this for yourself by trying to find the same speaker there for less than $120. The main competitor, represented by the price, is approximately the same as on Aliexpress, besides, on GearBest you can partially pay with the help of which we have accumulated quite a lot recently.
We bought not only one Xiaomi Mi Smart Network Speaker, but also many other products, including a camera for a smart home, so the package turned out to be heavy. Despite this, delivery turned out to be free, and even by courier, right to the doorstep.
In fact, the goods were sent on the second day from the moment of payment and a track code was issued, which was tracked until the moment of delivery. It looks like GearBest is testing new logistics and this time a parcel was sent, the services of which I had never encountered before. As it turned out later, after customs clearance, the cargo is transferred to the DPD courier service, which many have probably encountered. Considering the long holidays in China, during which the delivery took place, the delivery time was exactly 20 days, which is quite good, especially considering that it is free.
The Xiaomi Mi Smart Network Speaker itself turned out to be heavy, according to the specifications, something like 3 kg. Starting from the box, you immediately understand that you have a really high-quality item in your hands, everything has been worked out to the smallest detail, from design to materials and workmanship.
In terms of packaging, as usual in the Xiaomi style, there is nothing superfluous, although it would be nice to find, in addition to the power cord, an AUX cable. If many are accustomed to the fact that almost all elements of a smart home are controlled using Mi Home, then in this case you will have to turn the column over and scan the QR code on the back with a link to special application Mi Speaker, which is what she controls. When you start, you will most likely be asked to update the firmware, which we naturally recommend agreeing to.
The update will take no more than a minute and you will be ready to sync. Official Mi Speaker app supports English language, there are not so many settings to get confused, but we installed the already localized Russian version for greater convenience. If you decide to do the same, first install official version from the Mi Store, launch it, give all permissions, and then roll the localized one on top, otherwise the application may crash on startup.
There are not many settings, but again nothing superfluous. There is a built-in equalizer; you can use ready-made templates or configure it manually. The fading effect can be easily turned on/off, and the Bluetooth visibility of the speaker is turned on and off using the same principle. The sound volume can be selected either as system volume or as required by default.
There, in the settings, you can see the IP address of the speaker in order to locally connect to its internal storage, the volume of which is 8GB, not to say that much, but the device still positions itself as a network speaker system rather than a standalone one. Now about the actual use experience and general impressions. Many people are most likely concerned about sound quality, like one of them the most important characteristics any speaker system. There are no problems with this, Xiaomi values its reputation, which it has developed over the years, so the quality of the speakers, hardware and software components is at its best. The speaker's power is 30W, which is enough to prevent even a scream from being heard at maximum volume, and its weight eliminates the slightest rattling.
The mid frequencies sound balanced, there is not even a hint of squeak or whistle in the high frequencies, and all this is accompanied by dense bass. Connecting and working with the device
Connection to mihome is standard. After connecting to the network, the program detects a new device, then enter the username and password for wi-fi networks- supports 2.4 and 5 GHz and we get a new device in the list. In the mi home plugin, there is only duplication of the speaker's hardware remote control. To fully work with the speaker, you need to download and install the Mi Speaker application using the QR code. The main application window contains a list of channels - essentially playlists. Clicking on a playlist (using a flash drive as an example) opens a list of songs available for playback. To create your own channel (playlist), click on the + button and select Create channel. The second option is Subscribe to station - to subscribe to online radio; only Chinese radio stations are available, so I will not dwell on this point.

When you select one of the storages, a list of songs opens, grouped by songs, artists, albums and folders. And on the Western Artist section - I got stuck for several hours :) Who is there - ABBA and U2, Nirvana, Metallica, Scorpions, Linkin Park, there is Napalm Death and there is also TaTu - just swipe down and the database loads all the new ones and new performers. There's just a sea of them here. By going to the folder of any artist, we get a list of songs; we also load the list by swiping. For each artist, you can download up to 100 songs, and add all or your choice to the channel (playlist). All songs can be listened to right here - before being added to the playlist.

In MiHome, it is possible to control the speaker using scripts. The scripts are all in Chinese - so I offer my own translation. Everything is clear with the first five points, the sixth - broadcasting still remains a mystery to me - perhaps for using the speaker as a media center, the seventh - just a pause. Further, the sound + and sound are strange items, since they are only available for smooth adjustment - for example, by rotating the cube (see the right side of the screen), while the sound + - only increases the volume with any rotation of the cube, and the sound only decreases. This is strange and illogical. The same gateway, for example, correctly increases the volume when turning from left to right and decreases from right to left, and has 1 point - smooth volume control.

Sound quality
I'm certainly not an audiophile, but in my opinion the speaker sounds pretty good. There are no issues with the bass, the high frequencies also sound good, perhaps there is not enough sound in the mid frequencies - but that’s if you’re being picky. Advanced music lovers may hear “plasticity” and “not very tasty sound” - but I don’t eat the sound, I like it. I listened to compositions of various musical genres, and on standard settings equalizer - I had a lot of fun - this, in my opinion, is the main thing that needs to be said.
Conclusion
After the tape recorders and music centers ceased to be relevant, the niche of a home audio center, at least for me, remained open. Playing it on a laptop, through a phone on a bluetooth speaker - all this was half measures. With the appearance of the house of the hero of the review, it seems that I managed to close this niche for myself. I really liked the online music database available for this speaker - although initially I didn’t count on it at all, but so far, thanks to it, I can do without my “offline” reserves.
