  • Weight: 1.6 kg

The speaker is delivered in a massive box, with a bunch of inscriptions in Chinese.

Appearance

The body is made of white matte plastic, which has a very positive effect on appearance During operation, no fingerprints are visible on the case, and the same dust is not as noticeable as on black.

At the back are AUX, USB and a connector for connecting the power cable.

On top are the column control keys and LED indicator.

Getting started with the column

To work with the speaker, you need to download the Mi Speaker application (you can from the market, or from 4pda, there is a translation into Russian). We connect the speaker to our wi-fi network (both 2.4 and 5 GHz are supported).

You can set a timer to turn off the speaker and an alarm clock. With the alarm clock, however, not everything is so simple, you need to set it according to Chinese time, then everything works. You can set your own music for the alarm clock.

Now about music playback.

In addition to the fact that you can listen to music via bluetooth (by the way, you can simultaneously connect several devices to the speaker), there is AUX, USB and its own 8GB drive. I think everything is clear with this, nothing new, everything is standard.

I once had a small speaker with wi-fi (for $25), and it had an application with radios from all over the world; you could turn on any station from your smartphone, and the speaker would then play on its own. The choice of radio stations was so large that I even found the radio of the Donetsk People's Republic)). Their rock was not bad)).

But in the column under review, everything is much worse. There is only Chinese radio, you can’t add your own, unless you just send a stream from your computer.

With music it’s a little simpler. You can simply put music on the internal drive, however, you won’t be able to overclock it much with 8GB. You can upload from the application or via a computer via Wi-Fi.

You can also play music from your smartphone or from a USB flash drive.

But it turned out that not everything is so bad, you can find a lot of music online in the Mi Speaker application, create your own playlists and enjoy your music without any third party device.

This is what it looks like: with I started looking for the right music.

The speaker produces good detailed sound, low frequencies are already felt, not as in bluetooth speakers for 30-50$. And the column sizes will also be larger.

At maximum volume the speaker does not wheeze, treble also sound thanks to Twitter.

In general, describing the sound is difficult (for me personally), but there is a good site http://switcher.oluvsgadgets.net/ , where you can listen to how different speakers sound, and it has a very large database. So let's take it good headphones and compare it with what you listened to before.

Personally, I like the sound, and if you remember the price, then there is nothing better in terms of sound quality.

As a result, I got a speaker that I connected to the TV via AUX, which has playlists with the necessary music set up, and you can also easily transmit sound from a computer when needed. And all this without unnecessary movements, plugged into the socket and forgot.

This is where I would like to end my story. I’m sure I didn’t say everything, I forgot or didn’t know a lot, so questions are welcome)).

As you know, Xiaomi, based on the Mi Home application, is building its own smart home ecosystem, which clearly has more than one hundred elements included in it. If we take into account the speed with which they develop and bring their new products to market, then it is quite possible that in a year we will no longer be talking about even one thousand different components. In this case, in our review, this device is positioned as a home speaker system.

Do not forget that, first of all, Xiaomi releases a product for its domestic market and only after some time is the global version released, or an update in the form of international firmware. However, many do not pay attention to this, since essentially the built-in functionality remains the same, and localizers sometimes work faster than Xiaomi manages to release the next update, for which special thanks to them, so no one experiences any particular discomfort from this.

Where to buy Xiaomi Mi Smart Network Speaker

We bought an acoustic system, the price was about $60. Looks like this is one of those rare cases where an item can be found well below it. By the way, you can see this for yourself by trying to find the same speaker there for less than $120. The main competitor, represented by the price, is approximately the same as on Aliexpress, besides, on GearBest you can partially pay with the help of which we have accumulated quite a lot recently.

We bought not only one Xiaomi Mi Smart Network Speaker, but also many other products, including a camera for a smart home, so the package turned out to be heavy. Despite this, delivery turned out to be free, and even by courier, right to the doorstep.

In fact, the goods were sent on the second day from the moment of payment and a track code was issued, which was tracked until the moment of delivery. It looks like GearBest is testing new logistics and this time a parcel was sent, the services of which I had never encountered before. As it turned out later, after customs clearance, the cargo is transferred to the DPD courier service, which many have probably encountered. Considering the long holidays in China, during which the delivery took place, the delivery time was exactly 20 days, which is quite good, especially considering that it is free.

The Xiaomi Mi Smart Network Speaker itself turned out to be heavy, according to the specifications, something like 3 kg. Starting from the box, you immediately understand that you have a really high-quality item in your hands, everything has been worked out to the smallest detail, from design to materials and workmanship.

In terms of packaging, as usual in the Xiaomi style, there is nothing superfluous, although it would be nice to find, in addition to the power cord, an AUX cable. If many are accustomed to the fact that almost all elements of a smart home are controlled using Mi Home, then in this case you will have to turn the column over and scan the QR code on the back with a link to special application Mi Speaker, which is what she controls. When you start, you will most likely be asked to update the firmware, which we naturally recommend agreeing to.

The update will take no more than a minute and you will be ready to sync. Official Mi Speaker app supports English language, there are not so many settings to get confused, but we installed the already localized Russian version for greater convenience. If you decide to do the same, first install official version from the Mi Store, launch it, give all permissions, and then roll the localized one on top, otherwise the application may crash on startup.

There are not many settings, but again nothing superfluous. There is a built-in equalizer; you can use ready-made templates or configure it manually. The fading effect can be easily turned on/off, and the Bluetooth visibility of the speaker is turned on and off using the same principle. The sound volume can be selected either as system volume or as required by default.

There, in the settings, you can see the IP address of the speaker in order to locally connect to its internal storage, the volume of which is 8GB, not to say that much, but the device still positions itself as a network speaker system rather than a standalone one. Those who don't have enough can connect an additional one without any problems. USB drive for offline listening to your favorite tracks.

The hardware inputs include AUX, so true connoisseurs of quality can use it to connect to anything that has an audio output. From wireless interfaces There is Bluetooth 4.1 and WI-FI of two bands 2.4GHz/5GHz, so you can connect Xiaomi Mi Smart Network Speaker in the way that is more preferable for you.

Some note that when Bluetooth connection Interference occasionally creeps in if there are several other devices working on the same this protocol, but these are rather technology costs, to which the column has nothing to do. In this case, nothing prevents you from using AirPlay and listening to music via WI-FI without any interference, however, which connection protocol to use is a subjective matter for everyone.

Thanks to the Mi Speaker application, you can create your own playlists. Moreover, the sources of their creation may be different - internal memory your phone, pre-downloaded songs to the internal storage, tracks from a connected USB cards memory or external drive and of course online storage, which is worth talking about separately.

As already noted, the column on at the moment is designed mainly for the Chinese market, therefore, the overwhelming majority of the online media library is focused on China, but you can find almost anything there, from Western stars to Russian tracks. One gets the impression that it is endless, we personally are tired of sitting and making our own playlist, so it is mainly connected via Bluetooth to the computer and plays Yandex Radio and tracks from VK almost around the clock.

By the way, when connecting to Windows via Bluetooth, there are no problems with drivers, everything is installed automatically, even system sounds, in a word, Mi Network Speaker serves as wireless speakers. For Apple devices it’s even simpler: turn on AirPlay, select your speaker and listen.

Now about the actual use experience and general impressions. Many people are most likely concerned about sound quality, like one of them the most important characteristics any speaker system. There are no problems with this, Xiaomi values its reputation, which it has developed over the years, so the quality of the speakers, hardware and software components is at its best. The speaker's power is 30W, which is enough to prevent even a scream from being heard at maximum volume, and its weight eliminates the slightest rattling.

The mid frequencies sound balanced, there is not even a hint of squeak or whistle in the high frequencies, and all this is accompanied by dense bass. Perhaps especially strong connoisseurs will find something to complain about, but, firstly, keep in mind that these are not studio monitors, and secondly, take into account the cost, which is actually lower than the level of reproduction by at least three times, compared to similar competitors in its category.

By the way, by adding a speaker to Mi Home you will get remote control control, and if this is not enough for you, you can order one, which is easily linked to the speaker in the Mi Speaker application.

In short, the review of the Xiaomi Mi Smart Network Speaker is certainly positive; it seems difficult to find a more versatile and high-quality speaker system for everyday use with a technological reserve for at least a couple of years ahead.

Hello friends

In this review, I will continue the endless topic of Xiaomi gadgets and talk about the Xiaomi Mi Smart Network Speaker network audio system

Introduction

This gadget interested me as soon as I came across it and was added to my list of favorite products. He hung there for quite a long time until he fell into my hands. Thanks to the fall sale on GearBest, it cost me $59.99.

Specifications:

Number of speakers - 4

Total output power - 30 Watt

Wireless interfaces - 802.11b/g/n/a, Bluetooth 4.1

Interface connectors - AUX, USB

Built-in memory - 8 GB

External inspection

The device is delivered in a red box - which, of course, stands out sharply from the general range of Xiaomi gadget boxes

Moreover, the packaging is made of thick cardboard and sealed in plastic film, which increases the chances of receiving the contents safe and sound. To this it is worth adding a competent internal layout - everything fits very tightly.

The set includes a speaker, which by the way is quite heavy, and a power cable with a double flat plug.

dimensions - W*H*D - 28 * 8 * 9.5 cm

On the front part there are holes in the plastic case for sound output,

On the back side there is a power connector and interface connectors - AUX and USB

On the top side there is a control panel - power buttons, volume control, track switching, play/pause and channel switching

On the bottom side there is a QR code for downloading the application

Connecting and working with the device

Connection to mihome is standard. After connecting to the network, the program detects a new device, then enter the username and password for wi-fi networks- supports 2.4 and 5 GHz and we get a new device in the list. In the mi home plugin, there is only duplication of the speaker's hardware remote control. To fully work with the speaker, you need to download and install the Mi Speaker application using the QR code. The main application window contains a list of channels - essentially playlists. In the screenshot, the top channel is a list of songs on the connected external flash drive.

Clicking on a playlist (using a flash drive as an example) opens a list of songs available for playback. To create your own channel (playlist), click on the + button and select Create channel. The second option is Subscribe to station - to subscribe to online radio; only Chinese radio stations are available, so I will not dwell on this point.

In the channel creation menu, we have the opportunity to add songs from the phone storage, speakers or downloaded songs. Here you can see the connected USB device.

In addition there is online service s from which you should pay attention to Xiami

When you select one of the storages, a list of songs opens, grouped by songs, artists, albums and folders. To create a channel (playlist), you need to select + the desired compositions and click the Add button - having formed your selection. Each song can be played directly from this mode, before being added to the playlist.

I’ll tell you more about the Xiami online service - third screenshot. This is a fairly large database of compositions, where there are various search options - from recommended and new arrivals to a list of performers.

And on the Western Artist section - I got stuck for several hours :) Who is there - ABBA and U2, Nirvana, Metallica, Scorpions, Linkin Park, there is Napalm Death and there is also TaTu - just swipe down and the database loads all the new ones and new performers. There's just a sea of them here. By going to the folder of any artist, we get a list of songs; we also load the list by swiping. For each artist, you can download up to 100 songs, and add all or your choice to the channel (playlist). All songs can be listened to right here - before being added to the playlist.

Settings menu - shows volume free space on the speaker, allows you to configure shutdown by time or song number, control the equalizer and sound effects, Bluetooth, listening history of songs and radio stations.

In MiHome, it is possible to control the speaker using scripts. The scripts are all in Chinese - so I offer my own translation. Everything is clear with the first five points, the sixth - broadcasting still remains a mystery to me - perhaps for using the speaker as a media center, the seventh - just a pause. Further, the sound + and sound are strange items, since they are only available for smooth adjustment - for example, by rotating the cube (see the right side of the screen), while the sound + - only increases the volume with any rotation of the cube, and the sound only decreases. This is strange and illogical. The same gateway, for example, correctly increases the volume when turning from left to right and decreases from right to left, and has 1 point - smooth volume control.

Sound quality

I'm certainly not an audiophile, but in my opinion the speaker sounds pretty good. There are no issues with the bass, the high frequencies also sound good, perhaps there is not enough sound in the mid frequencies - but that’s if you’re being picky. Advanced music lovers may hear “plasticity” and “not very tasty sound” - but I don’t eat the sound, I like it. I listened to compositions of various musical genres, and on standard settings equalizer - I had a lot of fun - this, in my opinion, is the main thing that needs to be said.

Conclusion

After the tape recorders and music centers ceased to be relevant, the niche of a home audio center, at least for me, remained open. Playing it on a laptop, through a phone on a bluetooth speaker - all this was half measures. With the appearance of the house of the hero of the review, it seems that I managed to close this niche for myself. I really liked the online music database available for this speaker - although initially I didn’t count on it at all, but so far, thanks to it, I can do without my “offline” reserves.

The Xiaomi company is distinguished by its economy; the equipment of any product is minimal. This speaker was no exception; the kit included only a power cable, instructions and the speaker itself. At least they would put an AUX cable for the sake of decency :)

Getting started with the column

To work with the speaker, you need to download the Mi Speaker application (you can from the market, or from 4pda there is a translation into Russian). Connect the column to yours wifi networks(both 2.4 and 5 GHz supported)

When the speaker was connected, the application offered to update the firmware, which of course I did not refuse.

When the speaker is connected, you can go to settings

You can set a timer to turn off the speaker and an alarm clock. With the alarm clock, it’s true that it’s not so simple, you need to set it according to Chinese time, then everything works. You can set your own music for the alarm clock.

But it turned out that not everything is so bad, you can find a lot of music online in the Mi Speaker application, create your own playlists and enjoy your music without any third-party device.

This is what it looks like:

First we look for the right music

Add it to the playlist (I have Playlist 1)
And you can listen. The CH button allows you to switch between playlists.

In addition, you can transmit sound via AirPlay and DLNA, which is also convenient if you store music on your computer, etc.
In general, you will most likely have to forget about online radio, since you won’t find anything useful there other than Chinese.

Now about the sound

There are 4 speakers inside the speaker. To improve sound quality, 2 mid-range speakers with a diameter of 2.5 inches, as well as 2 tweeter tweeters, were used.
The nominal sound power of the speaker is 2x10 W, and the maximum power consumption is 30 W.

The speaker produces good detailed sound, low frequencies are already felt, unlike in bluetooth speakers for $30-50. And the column sizes will also be larger.
At maximum volume, the speaker does not wheeze; the high frequencies also sound thanks to the tweeters.
In general, describing the sound is difficult (for me personally), but there is a good website http://switcher.oluvsgadgets.net/ where you can listen to how different speakers sound, and it has a very large database. So take good headphones and compare them with what you listened to before.

This is where I would like to end my story. I’m sure I didn’t say everything, I forgot a lot or didn’t know, so questions are welcome;)

price at the time of writing $64.99
