GfK: The global smartphone market reached $522 billion in 2018

The ongoing trend towards premium models contributed to further growth in global smartphone sales in 2018. In numbers, this is an increase of five percent ($522 billion). However, demand for smartphones in 2018 decreased by three percent compared to 2017, to 1.44 billion units sold worldwide. Major wearable device categories saw growth in 2018, with demand up 16 percent year-on-year and sales up 35 percent. The demand drivers were smartwatches with a SIM card slot, which accounted for the bulk of sales in the wearable devices category.
