Programs for Android. Smart sleep mode for your tablet or smartphone using the new Cover Algorithm app

Phones are evolving from year to year, becoming more and more complex devices, having a dozen different sensors on board. Each of them is responsible for certain functions. For example, a proximity sensor is responsible for regulating the auto-brightness of the screen and turning it off during a conversation; it is also called a light or ambient light sensor. Proximity sensor calibration xiaomi redmi or note devices will help correct incorrect operation of the sensor, which can cause a lot of problems for the smartphone owner, for example, accidental taps on the screen during a conversation. There may be several reasons for malfunction. If a banal reboot of the device does not help you, then let's look at the reasons according to their degree of complexity.

Turn on the light sensor

Your sensor may simply be turned off. To enable it you need to take several steps, let’s look at the example of xiaomi redmi 3s.
Open the “phone” application (dialer in common parlance)
Long press on menu
In the list that opens, select “incoming calls”
Then we find “proximity sensor” in the list and turn it on if it is disabled

Some xiaomi models may not have this option or this function will differ in location in the menu. Unfortunately, it is impossible to give a universal menu path due to the wide variety of models and firmware.

Disabling “harmful” functions

The most common reason for a sensor not working correctly is the enabled “pocket lock” function, the purpose of which is to prevent the screen from turning on when the smartphone is in your pocket. Because of this option, the light sensor often does not work correctly.

This problem is relevant for everyone xiaomi firmware, for some reason, engineers do not want to fix this problem or believe that everything works as it should, however, for some users, this function does not cause problems. To turn off pocket lock, you need to go to settings, then to “calls” and then to “incoming calls”, there you can find a slider that turns off this feature.

What can interfere with the sensor?

One of the reasons for a proximity sensor not working correctly is physical interference in its operation, namely protective film or glass. For example, our employee’s xiaomi redmi note 3 pro does not have this proximity sensor working for this exact reason. If you do not have holes for the light sensor, then you need to either change the film/glass or make this hole yourself. This sensor is usually located above the screen, next to the front camera and earpiece. Low-quality or universal films usually suffer from this problem. Therefore, before purchasing a protective covering, be sure to check the presence of all holes.

Testing and calibrating the light sensor

Checking the light sensor

A fairly popular solution is to calibrate the sensor. xiaomi approaching devices. First, you need to check the functionality of the sensor on your phone, to do this, dial the following numbers *#*#6484#*#* (you do not need to press the call button), thanks to this combination you will be taken to engineering menu, tested on xiaomi mi4 and xiaomi redmi 3 pro, other ways to get there are described in our article about the engineering menu.
You will see 5 buttons on a black background.

Click on the top right, it should say “Single Item Test”.

In the list of components you need to find and select “Proximity Sensor”; it is usually located almost at the very bottom.

In the test itself, the inscription “far” or “close” will be displayed on the screen; closing and opening the light sensor (for example, with your finger), the inscription should change. If this does not happen, then this module is faulty.
After this text, you can try calibration.

Light sensor calibration

Let's look at calibration using the xiaomi redmi 3s smartphone as an example.

Turn off your smartphone completely.

Press and hold the volume+ button (volume up), and without releasing it, press the power button. Your device should vibrate, after which the buttons can be released.

A menu will open in front of you, in 95% of cases it will be in Chinese (including on xiaomi redmi 3s). You need to click on the “中文” button, it is located in the bottom line to the right of the “download模式” button. After this, the menu language will change to English.

Click on the “PCBA test” button on the top line and the engineering menu opens in front of us.

If the touchscreen does not work, then use the “UP” and “DOWN” buttons to move to the “Proximity sensor” item and go into it.

You need to place the phone horizontally on a flat surface.

The light sensor should not be covered with anything (it is better to wipe it with a cloth).

Make sure your phone is not exposed to bright light.

Click on the “Calibration” button, the sensor will begin to calibrate.

Afterwards the message “Successfully” should appear, it means that the calibration was successfully completed.

Now you need to check the operation of this module, cover the light sensor with an opaque object, on the screen 1 should change to 0 and vice versa.

After this, you may need to press the “Pass” button, you will be taken back to the engineering menu, there we press “Finish”, then “Power Off”, the phone should turn off.

Turn on the phone and check the operation of the sensor. When you make a call, the screen should only go dark when you bring the phone to your ear.
On our personal experience correct work The xiaomi redmi 3 proximity sensor was completely restored using this method.

Incorrect device firmware

If calibration does not help, then the reason for the incorrect operation of the smartphone may be incorrect flashing; this applies not only to the light sensor. The problem is that new firmware incorrectly places on the smartphone, receiving the remaining garbage from old firmware. This problem concerns the update method through standard recovery (bootloader). The transition to new versions should be done via fastboot or with resetting all settings and user data (full wipe). Of the minuses this method It is worth noting that all your data and applications will be deleted, but all garbage will be deleted along with them.

Other reasons

If the previous methods did not have the desired effect, then replacing the screen with a low-quality one may be the reason. Unfortunately, screen modules for xiaomi phones supplied with a light sensor. If you have already had your screen replaced at a service center, then it is quite possible that, contrary to all the technician’s beliefs, you were simply given a low-quality screen with a bad sensor. If from the very beginning of the purchase your smartphone does not work correctly, then the reason may be a simple defect. We advise you to contact the seller for further instructions.

We hope these tips helped you, be sure to write in the comments whether this article helped you and what advice helped you.

Google is currently busy rolling out a new smart lock mode called On-Body Detection.

The feature, shown in the screenshots below, uses the device's accelerometer to detect when the device is in your hand or pocket, and records times when the phone is held in other positions. The meaning of the option is as follows: if you leave your phone on the table or forget it somewhere, it will be locked and prevent access to data.

Once your phone is unlocked, it will remain unlocked as long as you have it in your hands or pocket. By setting this mode, you will lock your phone again. You can return it to the previous state manually (if you do not use authentication via a PIN code, password, or something else). If you pass the handset to someone else in unlocked mode, it will not be blocked - the function is powerless here.

The function worked at least on Nexus 4 under Android control 5.0.1, but now the option is being rolled out to other devices, including representatives of the entire Nexus line. This feature is obviously not specific to Android 5.1, but probably requires 5.0+ to work. At the same time, the source of information reported that the device works with the most latest version Google Play Services (7.0.97). According to Android Police, this mode is activated regardless of the version of the main operating system.

Google seems to be slow to launch new feature with a gradual rollout phase, so don’t worry if the innovation has not yet appeared on your device.

The new Xiaomi Mi 4 is, not without reason, considered the most epoch-making miracle that China has revealed mobile world last time. And it must be said that this device, which was very appropriately called the “Apple of China,” has significantly changed the public’s attitude not only to Xiaomi products, but also to Chinese phones in general, and in better side- more about them.

Today, the multi-million army of Chinese Xiaomi fans is literally replenished every day with new thousands of “volunteers” from other countries who not only buy Xiaomi Mi 4, but also generate a real wave of praise on the Internet, praising the advantages of this smartphone in every possible way.

And they say that Xiaomi Mi 4 still has something to please the user, so the device owes its sensational popularity not only to the company’s marketers.

On the other hand, Mi4, which, at least in the domestic Chinese market, has already defeated all its competitors, including Galaxy and iPhone, being a so-called HighEnd-class device, came as a real surprise to many users. In the sense that not everyone is able to master all the capabilities of this smartphone as quickly as they would like.

But, judging by the reviews in reviews of Xiaomi tablets and smartphones - for example - the somewhat specific-looking MIUI interface (Mi Yui), nevertheless, allows you to use it very comfortably new Xiaomi Mi 4 and manage its more than extensive functionality.

However, for true neophytes who have not yet had time to really understand the capabilities of the Mi4, knowing a couple of on-duty tricks will certainly not hurt.

So, you have Xiaomi Mi 4, now remember:

1. To do screenshot (screenshot) Xiaomi Mi4 simply press the “Menu” and “Volume Down” buttons at the same time. The resulting image is automatically saved in the main image directory.

2. Player Mi4 “plays” (i.e. plays files) even when the smartphone screen is locked. Double-tap the circle on the locked screen (it's orange) and go to the screen with player controls.

3. You don't have to be afraid of the dark. Flashlight in Xiaomi Mi 4 it is also easy and simple to turn on: press and hold Home button And - Fiat lux !

4. If you are interested in how well the network of your telecom operator functions, then you can display a special Speed indicator data transfer. To do this, go to “ Settings", further - in " Notification panel" and turn on " Show speed...» ( Settings -> Notifications -> Show Connection Speed).

5. Xiaomi Mi 4 has “ pocket mode “, with which you can carry the device in your pocket without worrying too much about the fact that it will unlock and start making unauthorized calls to everyone it can.

6. You can hide it in Mi4 important messages from prying eyes. To do this, open the desired message and drag it down the screen until the “ Private messages ". If necessary, the message can also be password protected.

7. As is known, transferring data in the background (invisible) mode - this is one of the main reasons for accelerated battery drain. Therefore, in MIUI, the user can choose which of the active applications can run in background. Unnecessary or too voracious programs are disabled with a couple of clicks.

8. If you know (or suspect) that your Xiaomi Mi 4 can be used by others, then it is better to activate guest mode , in which personal data and important information will be hidden. To enable this feature, go to “ Settings", then in " Safety" and launch Guest mode.

Xiaomi smartphones on the market mobile devices They took a good place, and more and more often I meet people with phones from this manufacturer. And this is absolutely fair, since these devices have an excellent, or simply ideal, price-quality ratio. Today we will talk about some tricks that most Xiaomi smartphones running on Android 5.0 with branded shell MIUI 8.

Well, let's take a closer look at today's Lifehacks for Xiaomi smartphones that we have prepared for you.

1. Wallpaper carousel.

As soon as I picked up my smartphone and started working with it, a curious button in the upper right corner on the lock screen caught my eye. It turns out that this button launches very interesting feature– wallpaper carousel.

From the name it immediately became clear that after activating this function, the wallpaper on the lock screen will begin to change. In other words, if you enable the wallpaper carousel feature on your xiaomi smartphone, then you get access to lock screen wallpapers from popular graphic content publications.

I almost forgot, this function will only work correctly if there is an Internet connection.

2. Screenshot with three fingers on the screen.

Yes, everyone knows, in order to take a screenshot of the screen on xiaomi smartphones(however, on most other gadgets as well) you need to simultaneously hold down the power button and volume down. Another known method is to pull the curtain down and press the corresponding button on the switch panel.

I bet that the method of taking a screenshot by swiping down with three fingers is not known to everyone. By default, this feature is not enabled. To activate it, you need to go to Settings/Advanced Settings/Screenshot and enable this function here.

3. Set your picture as wallpaper.

It’s good that the programmers thought about the user in advance and have already included several different pictures in the firmware that can be set as wallpaper. But what if you want to set your picture as your desktop wallpaper or lock screen?

Fortunately, we know two ways that will help us set our own picture as wallpaper on Xiaomi smartphones. Absolutely right, the first method involves long pressing the menu button (this is provided by default in the firmware, and provided that you have not changed the button parameters). In this case, a certain menu will launch that allows you to configure the settings of the desktop, widgets, wallpapers and effects. This is where you need to click on the Wallpaper button, after which we will see a lot of standard, factory pictures. But we need to scroll to the left to the very end where the Other button appears, and then the usual procedure: select file manager and indicate the desired image. After this, the system will ask you what wallpaper to set it as, it’s up to you to choose.

The second method is slightly different; to do this, go to Settings/Wallpaper and do what we need - change the desktop or lock screen wallpaper. There you will find in the lower right corner a circle with a plus sign, with which you can set your picture as wallpaper. By the way, there are also settings for the wallpaper carousel, which we wrote about above.

4. Quick access

One more useful feature, which few people know about. To enable this utility, you need to go to Settings/Advanced Settings/Quick Access and enable it. In this case, a small transparent button will appear on the screen, when pressed, five more functional buttons will open: home, menu, lock screen, screenshot and back.

5. Cloning applications

That's right, application cloning, what does it mean? Imagine that you have two accounts in social network and in order to log into one or another account, you need to constantly log out and log in again. Now this problem solved. Xiaomi took care of this problem and gave us the ability to clone applications. That’s right, now you can safely use one application for different accounts. In order to make a clone of a program, you need to go to Settings/Application Cloning and select which application you want to clone.

After cloning an application, another icon with this application will appear on the desktop, but with a special mark.

6. Time lapse and slow motion - camera functions

Imagine what colorful videos you’ll get if you speed them up a little (you’ll get a time lapse) or slow them down?

And how surprising it will be to learn that this does not require a computer or additional software. And all because xiaomi smartphones have such modes in the camera settings. There is one caveat here: in order to shoot slow-motion video, you need to set the video quality to HD instead of FHD in the camera settings.

Now you have a camera at your fingertips that can take time-lapse or slow-motion footage without any problems.

7. Backup and reset

Using this settings section, you can not only reset your device to factory settings, but also something more interesting. Appears on xiaomi smartphones using this section can be done backup system settings, account data (SMS, call log) and applications.

Imagine how pleasantly surprised I was when I completely flashed my smartphone from official to custom firmware, went into the settings and restored all system settings! Yes, of course, before flashing the phone firmware I did backup copy, but still, how Xiaomi managed to do this, I can’t wrap my head around it. Call log, SMS, notes, all settings: WiFi, radio, weather, cameras, etc. - everything is in place.

8. Keyboard

It would seem that this is not clear. Well, no guys, and there are some tricks here. I have a question for you, or rather two: how do you move the cursor and how do you delete unnecessary words? On xiaomi smartphones, all this can be done a little easier. For example, I learned to erase unnecessary words using a gesture on the delete key, and to move the cursor using gestures on the spacebar. Believe me, it has become much easier to type text on your phone.

In order for the phone keyboard to begin recognizing these gestures, you need to go to Settings/Advanced Settings/Language and Input/Google Keyboard Settings/Continuous Input and only here you can activate these magical gestures.

9. LED indicator

This function may be familiar to most users, but still I decided to mention it. Xiaomi smartphones have a three-color LED, which, as you probably noticed, lights up in different colors. Did you know that you can set almost any color for notifications, calendar, missed calls or messages from applications?

That's exactly what I did, now the missed call - my indicator is green; notification – blue; messages from VKontakte - yellow, messages from Viber - purple, etc. The main thing now is not to get confused.

Where to adjust the color LED indicator? Go to Settings/Advanced Settings/LED Control - this is where I configured the color of the indication. To be fair, it is worth noting that applications are configured individually in their own settings.

10. One-handed operation

Have you ever had to use one hand on a smartphone with a diagonal larger than 5 inches? And how, it’s true, it’s not very easy, especially if you have a small palm! Fortunately, our Chinese friends have foreseen this. Of course, the phone does not transform or shrink, but the manufacturer has added an excellent feature - one-handed operation.

What does it mean? This means that if you suddenly need to use one hand (for example, you are driving or carrying a heavy bag), you can activate the one-hand control mode with a slight movement of your thumb. To do this, you just need to swipe your thumb away from the center button on the bottom panel of touch buttons. If you did everything correctly, the system will ask: Enter one-handed control mode? And after confirmation, the working area of the screen will immediately decrease (by default to 4″). In the settings you can either reduce or increase this size.

Agree, it is now much easier to use a smartphone with one hand! To exit this mode, just lock the device or tap outside the zone (outside the reduced working area).

Don’t judge us harshly; perhaps most of you already knew everything about these tricks. Or perhaps this will be useful for someone, and if so, then we didn’t waste our time writing this post.

Tell us in the comments below if this article brought you any benefit.

Stay tuned, there is still a lot of interesting things ahead.

Many of us have repeatedly thought that it would be nice to be able to control whether a tablet or smartphone goes into sleep mode or back.

For example, it would be great if the tablet instantly fell asleep when closing the cover, and the smartphone - when closing the flip or after we put it in our pocket. All this (and even more) can be provided to us by a new application. Cover Algorithm from an independent developer known on the XDA-Developers forum under the nickname Akshay (Aky).

Many of you are well aware that some modern tablets ( Nexus7, iPad etc.) or smartphones are equipped with special magnetic sensors that allow you to determine the moment of closing the cover of the case, equipped with a built-in magnet.

And although not every device has such capabilities, the developer of the Cover Algorithm application found a way out of this situation by using for these purposes other sensors that are currently equipped with smartphones and tablets.

In particular, to instantly switch the device to sleep mode and back, it uses proximity, light sensors, an accelerometer and a magnetic sensor.

At the same time, you can choose which sensor or combination of sensors the program will use to determine when it is necessary to lock or unlock your tablet or phone.

The application has two main modes:

1. Case mode(Flip Cover Mode), in which you can select the following sensors:

- Proximity(Approximation): Used for regular and flip cases

- Magnetic(Magnetic): Cases with a magnet built into the cover

- Light Tablet(Light Sensor): For tablets that usually do not have a proximity sensor.

- Fuse Proximity + Light(Proximity + Light Sensor): Combines proximity and light sensor signals to more accurately determine the desired mode

- Fuse Shake + Proximity(Proximity sensor and accelerometer): Close the cover and shake the devices to lock. Open the lid and shake again to put it into working mode

- Fuse Magnetic & Proximity: Proximity sensor + magnetic sensor is used

2. Pocket mode(Pocket Mode) uses the following sensors:

- Proximity- approaching

- Shake- accelerometer

- Fuse Proximity + Light- light + proximity sensor

- Fuse Shake + Proximity- proximity sensor + accelerometer

- Split Shake & Proximity- proximity sensor or accelerometer to more accurately determine the moment of transition to sleep mode and back

In all these modes, the application determines whether to lock or unlock the device using some special algorithms.

Also, in the application you can set many different modes, such as screen blanking delay and adjust the sensitivity of sensors.

In addition, in the additional settings menu you can select the so-called “night” operating mode, with which you can set the period of time during which the above modes will work. This can be useful for additional battery savings, as well as to prevent the screen from turning on at full brightness at night as a result of false alarms.
