Vernee Thor plus a mobile phone. Vernee Thor Plus - Specifications

From the title of the article, you can understand why the Vernee Thor Plus smartphone is worth paying attention to. Most models Chinese smartphones are equipped with an IPS-matrix and it has already become the de facto standard. Matrices Super AMOLED in budget devices you will not see often, at least for now. A combination of high contrast matrix, battery large capacity and the prices make Thor Plus a very interesting smartphone.

The performance of the smartphone is "average", it has an eight-core MTK6753 processor with a frequency of 1.3 GHz cores, all the same Cortex A53. The Mali-T720 GPU will not allow many games to be played at their maximum graphics. In Antutu, he is gaining 37,000 points.

The cost of Vernee Thor Plus as of today (August 29, 2017) is approximately $ 150. From September 1 to September 15, the price will be reduced to $ 140.

Thor Plus pluses:

  • Capacious battery (6200mA);
  • Super Amoled screen;
  • RAM 3GB, constant 32GB
  • HD screen resolution (1280x720p);

Especially to say something and not something. More recently, on our site there was one that runs on the same processor and has the same random access memory, as well as not a small battery of 5020mA. So the performance of Vernee Thor Plus and Thor E is on par. The only difference is in the type of display matrix.

Super AMOLED screens consume more power than IPS screens of the same resolution. But nevertheless, if we compare these two smartphones in terms of autonomy, then Vernee Thor Plus slightly outperforms Thor E:

  • Thor E - 18 hours of video, 720 hours of standby time.
  • Thor Plus - 20 hours of video, 750 hours of standby time.

In appearance, there is nothing to say. A smartphone that does not stand out in any way: a neat design with grooves on the back and physical button with fingerprint sensor.

Fans of Vernee and "long-playing" smartphones now have a choice: Thor Plus or Thor E. And you can look at the novelty for the same money.

The difference is $ 35-40 in favor of the second, but Thor Plus has a Super AMOLED screen and 32GB permanent memory (16GB more). It's up to you to choose.

The modern mobile phone market is quite complex and multifaceted - large companies are trying to produce high-quality smartphones, but they simply have to increase the cost for the sake of profit, and small manufacturers produce smartphones almost at cost, but few people buy them because of the unknown name. A new product called Vernee Thor Plus should make a difference. The manufacturer put a lot of energy and imagination into the smartphone, so the new product turned out to be very stylish, attractive, it has nothing superfluous in its design, plus there is a rather productive filling that will allow you to play your favorite games and get moral satisfaction from it. And, of course, it is worth noting that this product will be very affordable for any user, while competitors with the same set of advantages turn out to be very expensive.

Filling

The mobile phone's performance is based on the MTK6753 processor from MediaTek, which you have already seen on some of the new smartphones this year. The advantage of the processor in eight processing cores and a high clock speed of 1.3 GHz allows you to play all modern gaming products, enjoy watching movies in high definition, and so on. The performance of a mobile phone will be supported by 3 gigabytes of RAM, which will be enough for the product with a large margin, because today applications cannot use so much RAM at once. On the other hand, there is never a lot of RAM either. The built-in memory for storing personal content is 32 gigabytes, enough for both the first time and those who do not carry films with them in batches. If you are not a fan of movies, then you don't even have to buy a memory card.

Case design

Perhaps the main advantage of the smartphone is its body design - the absence of unnecessary elements on the front panel, the absence of unnecessary inscriptions. On the front side of the smartphone there is only a display, a hardware Home key and a speaker with a camera, which looks very attractive and stylish, some big companies should learn from Vernee. On the back there is a camera that does not stick out from the body, there is also a flash and dividing strips for cellular antenna... In general, appearance I liked the product, did you?

Bonuses

The diagonal of the display is 5.5 inches and this is perhaps the biggest advantage of the smartphone. Thanks to the large diagonal, it will be more pleasant and convenient for you to work with applications, type messages, play games, and so on - always the larger the screen, the more enjoyable it is to use your smartphone. At the same time, the resolution is 1280 by 720 pixels, the matrix is built using IPS technology, which means that there will be no problems with the picture quality. I was pleased with the rear camera with 13 megapixels - it shoots well in daylight, you can record video in a decent resolution.

Outcome

The official cost of the new smartphone is $ 169, which is a very tasty price tag for such a design, such a filling and the capabilities of the device. Of course, you should understand that this is the price from the online store. You also have the opportunity to get a $ 20 discount if you pre-order, which will lower the price tag to $ 149 and then the product is generally gorgeous. For that kind of money, it is very difficult to find a worthy competitor, and the brand has already become more or less famous, this is not some kind of new company without history and ready-made solutions.

Another Chinese budget employee, Vernee Thor Plus, got to our review. The smartphone, in general, is classic, if you do not particularly go into the characteristics. In terms of design - the already familiar bar with sloping edges, the "filling" is rather dull, the cameras are average lousy. But there are a couple of features in it that can push you to buy this particular one. First, a huge battery. Secondly, the AMOLED screen. For me, this is the ideal ratio for lovers of long web surfing and watching movies on a smartphone. But is everything really that good? Let's move on to the Vernee Thor Plus review to understand everything.

Specifications

Contents of delivery

A smartphone arrived in an ordinary white box. It stands out only with the Vernee logo, which the manufacturer placed on the top of the package. Inside the classic package: power adapter, microUSB cable, instructions, a tool for removing the SIM tray. No cases or headphones included.

Externally, as already noted, the Vernee Thor Plus is not much different from a bunch of other smartphones. From the front, it looks a lot like the Meizu lineup, from the back, it looks like every second smartphone of the last couple of years. It looks quite simple, it does not have any catchy elements, which can partly be called an advantage.

Vernee Thor Plus is available in black and gold. In both cases, the front is black.

The back of the smartphone is represented by a metal plate with plastic inserts at the top and bottom - a classic. Looks pretty neat. The coating is matte, more practical than gloss, which instantly becomes covered with spots and scratches. The dimensions of the Vernee Thor Plus, if we take into account the capacity of the battery, are acceptable. The thickness is 8.7 mm, the smartphone is quite weighty - just over 190 grams. Everything is not bad with ergonomics - if the fingers are long, then you can use it with one hand. Holders of a standard palm will have to take the Vernee Thor Plus in two hands - all 5.5 inches, and the frames are quite wide.

The elements are arranged according to the classics - everything is in its place. At the front there is a touch button that also combines a fingerprint scanner (not mechanical, not pressed). On the sides there are two more touch buttons made in the form of small non-illuminated dots. As for me, such a decision. It was possible to make one touch-mechanical button on which to hang all the actions. How is it implemented in the same Meizu or ZUK. Probably just nitpicking.

Naturally, at the top there is a peephole for the front camera, a slot for the earpiece and a window for sensors. The bottom end of the Vernee Thor Plus is represented by a microUSB connector and a pair of perforation grilles, behind one of which is hidden the main speaker, behind the other - a microphone. Here's another complaint about Vernee's garden - why is microUSB again? And not only to Vernee. It is clear that the budget segment, but I do not think that it costs so much USB port Type-C. It's time for third-tier companies to join the general trend, and even abandon the connector, which is becoming obsolete every day.

There is a 3.5mm headphone port on top. Maybe it’s fashionable to abandon physical connectors in the flagship segment, but it’s not yet accepted in the budget segment. And it pleases. On the right edge of the Vernee Thor Plus is the power button and volume rocker. On the left is a hybrid tray for SIM-cards and microSD, as well as a button for activating the E-ink mode (more on that later). On the back there is only one camera, a flash and at the very bottom - the company logo.

The design of the Vernee Thor Plus did not impress or disappoint during the review. Such a classic smartphone, which is quite pleasant to use. It is not the thinnest, but its battery is also very impressive. It has a wide enough scope, but not enough to annoy or interfere with work.

One of the features that makes you think about purchasing Vernee Thor Plus. The manufacturer claims a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display (). HD resolution (1280x720 pixels), which provides a density of 267 ppi. Probably not in this price segment more smartphones with a similar display. And if there is, then these are rather old solutions.

The Super AMOLED sensor provides gorgeous viewing angles and stunning pictures. Black color will delight you especially. The fact is that AMOLED technology involves the use of organic LEDs, each of which is illuminated separately. That is, when the screen is black, the backlight is practically absent. IPS matrices, which are more common, have a special layer that illuminates the entire display. This leads to the fact that black color often goes into grayish shades, which lack saturation and depth.

Anyway, if you compare the Vernee Thor Plus screen with other smartphones of this price category, the hero of our review, as a rule, looks much more interesting. The image is more realistic and juicy. There are no problems with the margin of brightness, although if you wish, you can find a brighter IPS-screen in this segment. The Vernee Thor Plus display is covered with a protective glass, which is slightly rounded at the corners. Its origin is not known for certain, but the quality is quite decent. There is an oleophobic layer. Supports the screen up to 5 simultaneous touches.

E-ink mode

Well, and one more "trick". Vernee Thor Plus has got quite interesting E-ink technology. I mentioned above that there is a button on the left side to activate it. E-ink translates the smartphone screen into black and white mode- something like a screen e-book... This technology was introduced in previous smartphones too. lineup Vernee, but there was a minimum of sense from it, since it uses IPS-displays.

Returning a little higher, where I wrote about the fact that the AMOLED matrix is not backlit in black, we find that in the case of Thor Plus this mode can be useful. True, you should not count on the fact that you will be able to “spin” or play films for days on end via E-ink. It offers a limited set of features (calls, SMS, calendar and some others), it can come in handy when there is very little charge left, and you will not get to the outlet soon.

Performance

With the "iron" nowadays a general misfortune in the lower segment. Almost all companies (with the exception of Xiaomi, Coolpad LeEco) install MediaTek processors in their budget smartphones, and not of the first freshness. Vernee Thor Plus has an old eight-core MT6753, clocked at up to 1.3 GHz. It is complemented by the old Mali Mali-T720 graphics chip. The tandem of old people is not bad in everyday tasks, but they cope with demanding games and resource-intensive applications with a grunt.

I am glad that the RAM is 3 GB - everything is tight with graphic tasks, but at least with multitasking everything is not bad. Permanent memory 32 GB + you can install a memory card up to 128 GB.

In the AnTuTu test, the Vernee Thor Plus scores around 37,000 points. It was especially decided not to run the smartphone with benchmarks - this type of system has been tested many times, why mock the old man.

In general, there are no problems with everyday tasks (web surfing, instant messengers, simple games, etc.). If you really love mobile games, and not just some kind of farm, we recommend looking for something more impressive. For example,.

Communication, sound

You can install two SIM cards in nano format, you can install one SIM card and a microSD card. Vernee Thor Plus works in 4G, supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, there is GPS and GLONASS for navigation. Everything works well, there is a navigation error, but it is not critical (about 20-30 meters, not always).

The smartphone, as we noted, has a fingerprint scanner built into the Home button. It works "budget-friendly" - not too fast, does not always work the first time.

The sound of Vernee Thor Plus is ordinary, like that of most smartphones, and not only this, but also of higher classes. The speaker is loud enough, but you won't get some exquisite quality with distinct low and high frequencies. And the manufacturer, in fact, does not promise.

Operating system

The most uninteresting part of Chinese smartphone reviews, as a rule, falls on familiarity with the operating system. Everything is the same here. If smartphones from more famous manufacturers often have a branded shell, which is interesting to dig into, cheap Chinese are the same in this regard. The software part of Vernee Thor Plus is presented on the basis of almost "pure" Android 7.0 Nougat. Design user interface absolutely no surprise.

We managed to find something new in the "Settings" menu. The manufacturer has crammed a whole bunch of additional options, both necessary and unnecessary. All of them can be turned on and off at will, so this is definitely a plus for the OS. You can, for example, enable the function “ Fast access to the camera ", thanks to which you can start the camera double tap power buttons. Or customize the Vernee Thor Plus status bar to your liking - you can change everything.

During the review, Vernee Thor Plus received a one-time system update that was said to bring some fixes. In general, Vernee smartphones are well supported by the manufacturer, receiving quite often and a lot of updates. True, as the reviews of users of Vernee devices say, updates often do not fix, but bring more more mistakes... You can follow the release of firmware updates for Vernee Thor Plus on the w3bsit3-dns.com forum.

The Vernee Thor Plus has only one main camera, which is good news. The manufacturer did the right thing not to cram a useless second sensor, which would create a stain around the object that spoils the photo. Moreover, the price of a smartphone would certainly have been higher. And so, we have an unknown 13 megapixel sensor with an aperture of f / 2.0. What can you say about him? Suitable for the price of a smartphone. If the Vernee Thor Plus camera also shot at the level of more expensive analogs, it would be too good.

In the daytime, the photos are good - today state employees can boast of this. At night, of course, everything is sad. HDR helps a little, but the resulting nighttime photos are still mediocre. Videos can only be recorded in FullHD resolution. Naturally, there is no stabilization, so the rollers are mediocre, shaking and often oiled. Front-camera 8 MP. Nothing stands out - average quality selfies.

Many users in the reviews of Vernee Thor Plus complain about the very poor quality of indoor shooting. Apparently, the reason for this was the recent update, as evidenced by the majority of the owners of this device. We are waiting for the next update or we are stitching to the previous version.

What is the bottom line with the cameras? Not bad, but only during the day and with plenty of light, and if you don't often shoot videos, and if you are not one of those who get to the bottom of every pixel in the photo. Are there any better options than Vernee Thor Plus? In this segment, all smartphones are filmed in about the same way (if we do not take into account smartphones from little-known companies, which suddenly drop in price).

A good camera will have to shell out a more substantial budget. Maybe someone will come in handy -, (from fresh).

Autonomy

Another advantage of the smartphone. Vernee Thor Plus, according to the manufacturer, received a 6200 mAh battery. The capacity is impressive, but only on paper. As stated by many users in reviews, as well as other resources, the Vernee Thor Plus battery is actually 5800 mAh. This is indicated on the battery. It is not the first time that the manufacturer is guilty of exaggerating the real capacity of the battery. Yes, and many sellers on AliExpress seem to have repeatedly received claims about the real capacity, so now they say side by side that they do not accept disputes if the numbers differ from those stated. So that's it.

But, despite this nuance, the autonomy of the Vernee Thor Plus is pretty good. Let's not forget that an AMOLED display is used, which, in addition to saturated colors, also less power hungry in relation to the battery than IPS. And the resolution is not the highest. And what is the bottom line? The smartphone can withstand a couple of days without recharging confidently in active use. Able to play video for about 20 hours, if you set the brightness to 50%.

Supports Vernee Thor Plus technology fast charging... The battery is fully filled in about two and a half hours, which is very good for a similar capacity.

Vernee Thor Plus: where to buy, price, analogues

Now you can buy Vernee Thor Plus at a price in the region of 7700-8500 rubles. Quite a reasonable price, considering each of the characteristics of the smartphone. You can order Vernee Thor Plus in any popular online store (we select sellers with the maximum number of orders, an acceptable price and a good reputation).

What are the analogues of Vernee Thor Plus:

  • Oukitel K6000 Pro... It features a screen (5.5 inches, IPS, FHD) and cameras. It is also slightly thicker than the guest of our review. Otherwise, identical models.
  • Conclusion

In general, Vernee Thor Plus is not bad for the money that the manufacturer asks for it. Moreover, two things make it so - an AMOLED screen and a capacious battery. If we remove them, we have before us another faceless budget smartphone, of which there are plenty. Although Thor Plus still remains the solution of the lower segment, despite the type of matrix. His "filling" is outdated, the cameras shoot well exclusively for this class, from additional features only E-ink can be distinguished. We definitely recommend Vernee Thor Plus to users who love the rich colors produced by AMOLED, but do not want to pay too much for a smartphone. Naturally, we advise also to take a closer look at admirers of high autonomy, since the novelty really has no problems with this.

A young Chinese brand represented by Vernee Thor Plus once again pleases the audience with a unique novelty. Try to find another equally slim smartphone on the market with 6200mAh battery and 4G support. And yes, it should cost no more than $ 129.9 dollars.

Despite all the desire, at the moment you will not be able to find an alternative to the new Thor Plus. In our opinion, the Vernee management has once again hit the bull's eye. Many people would like to have a long-playing and powerful enough phone, which would not look like a weighty "brick".

Overall, Vernee Thor Plus is a very nicely redesigned one. The manufacturer has done a lot of work on the bugs, significantly increased the battery life and added a number of new "buns". But most importantly, the cost of the device has not changed much.

    The price of the issue

Manage to buy it at the best price

The presentation of the new Vernee Thor Plus took place on August 13 with a declared value of 169.99 units of American currency, but already on the 14th, a promotion was launched, within which, until August 27, a smartphone can be purchased for only 149.99 USD 129.99*.

    • Of course, the battery has a very impressive capacity - as much as 6200 mAh. If you need a smartphone that can last 3-4 days without recharging, then the new Thor Plus from Vernee is definitely your choice.
    • Fast charging with MediaTek Pump Express 2.0 technology so you don't have to wait long at the outlet.
    • Unrealistically compact size for a device with such a battery. The thickness of the metal case of "Torah Plus" is only 7.9 mm with a mass of 188 g. The products of competitors with the worst indicators of autonomy are often much more massive.
    • Bright 5.5-inch Super AMOLED HD Ready display. This means not only richer colors, but also lower energy consumption.
    • The proprietary mode of increased autonomy Endurance Mode, for which a special button is provided. When activated, the image on the screen turns black and white, thus reducing the load on the battery.
    • Not the worst for almost budget smartphone electronic filling, including an eight-core mobile processor, 3 Gb of RAM and a modem with support for 4G LTE networks.
    • The main camera with a "fair" resolution of 13 Mp and an aperture of f / 2.0. And also an 8-megapixel front camera.
    • Support for eliminating two SIM-cards, a fingerprint scanner and other "gentlemen's" features of a modern Chinese smartphone.
    • Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with a light proprietary Vernee VOS shell. The latter contains a number of useful tweaks to save battery power.
    • Uniquely low for such a cool smartphone, the price at the start of sales is only $ 129.99.
    • In USB On-To-Go mode, Vernee Thor Plus can operate as Power bank, that is, charge external devices.

    Autonomy Vernee Thor Plus

The most main feature new items, for the sake of which everything, in fact, was started. The manufacturer guarantees that one full charge of the 6200 mAh battery will be enough for:

    • 20 hours of video viewing
    • 750 hours standby

Unfortunately, there is no information about the operating time in other modes (talking, surfing the Internet, launching games, listening to music). But it is known that activating the special Endurance Mode allows you to increase autonomy by 15%.

    Design

The creators of Vernee Thor Plus made a choice in favor of the classics: a fairly thin (7.9 mm) metal body, smooth shapes and a hardware Home button at the bottom of the screen. Fashionable trends are also not without: the display of the smartphone has very thin side frames, and outside it is protected by shock-resistant glass with a 2.5D effect.

The power and volume keys are on the right, and on the left is the Vernee proprietary E-Key to activate the Endurance Mode, which was mentioned above. Above it is a tray for SIM-cards and microSD. The 3.5 mm jack is located at the top, MicroUSB is at the bottom in the middle.

In general, without much trickery. If we compare the design of the Vernee Thor Plus and the previous long-playing smartphone of the company - Thor E, we can note the great accuracy of the execution. Despite its simplicity, the device began to look noticeably nobler and more expensive.

In addition, one cannot but praise the Chinese engineers for the fact that they were able to place a battery of impressive capacity in such a thin case. This is made possible by the high density PCBA technology. Until now, no one has really succeeded in this.

    "Filling"

Vernee Thor Plus is based on an eight-core mobile processor. By today's standards, this is far from the most productive solution, but it copes with everyday tasks "with a bang." If desired, you can run on it and not the most resource-demanding game applications.

Thor Plus developers should only be praised for the amount of memory: they not only set the maximum 3 Gb of RAM for the MT6753, but also 32 Gb of internal eMMC memory, which, even without installing a card microSD memory enough in most cases. Many competitors only have 16 Gb.

As for the Vernee Thor Plus screen, the situation is the following. With a 5.5-inch diagonal, 720 × 1280 pixels are, of course, not enough. However, it is based on a Super AMOLED matrix with bright juicy colors, excellent viewing angles, as well as lower power consumption compared to IPS.

With the connection, the new Vernee is all right. The smartphone supports 4G LTE Category 4 networks and the ability to install two SIM cards (although the tray is hybrid). As for the frequency list, Thor Plus is fully compatible with both Russian and Ukrainian operators.

The Vernee Thor Plus firmware "out of the box" is based on the mobile OS Android 7.0 Nougat, on top of which it runs branded shell VOS. The emphasis in the development of the latter was placed on the speed of work (no frills) and autonomy. In particular, the number of active applications can be limited to six.

    Equipment

    • Smartphone
    • Charger
    • USB cable -> MicroUSB
    • SIM tray extractor
    • User guide

In general, the set is rather poor, so when buying, you should immediately order a case, a headset / headphones and, if desired, an additional protective glass or a film.

    Comparison with competitors

Finding a smartphone with at least those close to Vernee Thor Plus is very difficult. The first thing that comes to mind is the Oukitel K6000 Pro. It is based on the same hardware, has a 6000 mAh battery and even boasts a FullHD 1080 × 1920 screen.

However, in terms of autonomy, the latter is rather a disadvantage of the K6000 Pro compared to the new "Thor": the more pixels, the higher the power consumption. In addition, the Oukitel product uses an IPS matrix, which itself is more "voracious" than AMOLED.

But the main disadvantages of the K6000 Pro in comparison with the Vernee Thor Plus are its impressive dimensions (almost 1 cm thick and a whole 214 g weight), as well as a higher price tag. In addition, the Oukitel smartphone can be upgraded to "nougat" exclusively "by wire", which requires certain qualifications.

It can also be remembered with a 6050mAh battery. However, due to the more powerful "filling" it cannot boast of the same high battery life as Thor Plus. And do not forget about the very solid dimensions and the same 214 g as the previous competitor.

    Other alternatives:

    • Leagoo Shark 1 - battery as much as 6300 mAh and relatively compact size. However, the release of updates has been discontinued (the official "nougat" cannot be seen for sure) and it is very difficult to find it on sale.
    • The Doogee S6000 is a rare and outdated model. Mediocre performance by today's standards.
    • HomTom HT6 - the same.
    • Highscreen Boost 3 SE - rough design, "brick", strange characteristics.

    Total

As you can see above, Vernee Thor Plus is a truly unique smartphone that combines the highest autonomy, pretty decent technical characteristics and compact dimensions. And all this for $ 129.99!

So if you need a "long-playing" device for all occasions - take this Thor, you will not regret it! Vernee may not be the most famous Chinese brand at the moment, but for the second year already some of the most interesting new products have been released under it.
