Light alarm clock philips 3520. Light alarm clocks Philips Wake-up Light - review of models

“An alarm clock for 590 rubles? Yes, for this price he should serve coffee in bed!” – these were approximately the first thoughts when the cost of the weighty box that arrived was found out.

How far has technology come? How was it before? The Soviet alarm clock is iron, mechanical, weighing as much as a cobblestone. The accuracy of installation time is plus/minus 5-10 minutes. If you forgot to start it, you overslept, but if you didn’t forget, it will wake up the whole house with its ringing. Then plastic alarm clocks came, Chinese ones. The accuracy is the same, but at least the ringing is not so sharp, and you don’t have to start it every evening. Next were cell phones with alarm function, now smartphones. Setting accuracy up to the minute, selection of melodies, increasing volume, vibration signal, sleep functions, etc. A recent trend is “smart” alarm clocks built into special bracelets (separately or as part of smart watch), tracking sleep phases by hand movement and waking up the owner at the “optimal” time for the body. It is clear that in parallel there are many modern stationary alarm clocks: with LCD displays, built-in thermometers, tuners, projectors, and so on - now we are talking about a general trend.

And here is the latest trend of “alarm clock construction”, the pinnacle of scientific, engineering and marketing thought. It turns out that the most natural way to wake up is at dawn, slowly, while the rays of the sun penetrate the room and illuminate it. Yes, not to an artificial melody, but to the sounds of nature, birdsong or the sound of the surf. All that remains is to imitate the dawn, “all business.”

Delivery set, features

A food processor easily fits into a cardboard alarm clock box. Its design is pleasant, not flashy, but memorable and informative. Inside is the alarm clock itself (model HF3520), a 24 V, 0.5 A power adapter for it, a user manual and a brochure “ Important information» in 8 languages, certificate of conformity.

The main functional features of the device are shown right there on the box:

Simulate dawn using different shades of light;

Selecting a wake-up melody (5 types of natural sounds);

Built-in FM tuner;

Sleep function;

Delayed awakening (napping);

Touch control, backlit buttons.

We already have a rough understanding of the functionality of the alarm clock, but first things first.

Appearance, design

The alarm clock looks like some kind of futuristic device from the future, or like an old tractor headlight from the past. In form, of course. The color, how can I put it, is “white-transparent”, since the body is made of opaque plastic and is additionally enclosed in a transparent shell. The dimensions of the alarm clock are 200x200x140 mm, weight 1160 g.

All surfaces of the alarm clock are glossy and, unfortunately, a little soiled. The shape of the body, however, is quite difficult to define, but it vaguely resembles a truncated cone with a convex base, laid on its side. It is installed on 4 polyurethane feet, which prevent slipping well.

The front side of the alarm clock is a spherical segment (that same convex base). Its lower part is slightly darkened - the device display and four touch control buttons are located here: –, Menu, Select, +. The indication on the display is red, the brightness is minimal, and if you set the minimum contrast in the settings (see below), then the numbers and icons will be barely noticeable even from a short distance (after all, this is an alarm clock that should not irritate with its glow when placed near your head at night ).

The four touch buttons have backlighting in the display elements, which is activated when your finger approaches at a distance of about 1 cm and fades out after 5 seconds of inactivity. The buttons are pressed with a characteristic software click, which, if desired, can be disabled.

In addition to touch buttons, the alarm clock has a whole scattering of mechanical ones. All of them are located around the perimeter of the spherical segment. From left to right: Alarm 1, block of light intensity control buttons ( Less, On/Off, More), radio volume control button block ( Less, On/Off, More), Alarm 2, Fall asleep. It should be clear with button blocks Alarm 1 And Alarm 2 are responsible for activating/deactivating the wake-up function, and the button Fall asleep– for the “sleep” function. The buttons are clearly pressed, and some of them have individual notches, so that after a little training they should be “readable” to the touch.

On the back side of the device, which is quite small relative to the front side, there is a speaker covered with a plastic mesh and a socket for connecting the power adapter. In addition, a non-detachable one and a half meter antenna wire enters the housing.

Finally, a few words about the design of the alarm clock. Obviously, its body is collapsible, but it was not possible to study the filling. Only one screw is visible to the eye, unscrewing it did not lead to anything. It is clear that the parts are attached to each other using hidden latches, but finding these attachment points is very difficult.

Usage

When you connect the device to the network for the first time, you must perform initial settings: set current time(12- or 24-hour format available), display contrast (from 1 to 4), alarm type (one of 5 available natural sounds or FM wave), adjust wake-up profiles (there are two of them, according to the number of buttons, each set the time , light intensity (from 1 to 20) and signal volume (from 1 to 20). All this is done using the lower touch buttons. Settings are entered using the button. Menu, selection – with buttons –/+ , confirmation by button Select. You can also exit settings by pressing Menu or inactivity for 30 seconds.

The alarm clock is a fairly functional device and, in addition to its “direct duties”, can perform other useful things.

Since there is a lamp inside (LED, 20 W), why not use it as a lamp? Thanks to its wide adjustment, the device can illuminate both the bedside space and the entire room as a whole, competing with stationary lighting. The light is warm, reddish at minimum settings, almost white at maximum settings.

By the same logic, an alarm clock can be a bedside radio. Switching on/off and volume adjustment is performed by the corresponding block of mechanical buttons, and frequency search is performed by touch buttons –/+ . Briefly pressing them will activate manual search, and holding for 2 seconds is automatic.

The “sleep” function is interesting and can be very convenient. By pressing the corresponding button, the user sets a time interval from 5 to 60 minutes, during which the light intensity and/or radio volume will subsequently be gradually reduced.

Well, in fact, the device’s function of the same name is an alarm clock itself. The main settings are concentrated in wake-up profiles. So all that remains is to set one of the two alarm clocks by pressing the corresponding buttons Alarm 1 or Alarm 2. A bell icon is displayed on the display on the left or right, at the same time it is suggested to double-check the operation time, and if it suits you, just press it twice Select- the alarm clock is set.

By default, the alarm starts 30 minutes before the scheduled time. The lamp is lit and, within the allotted time, simulating dawn, changes the intensity of the glow from minimum to maximum value specified in the profile. At this very moment, the selected soundtrack is turned on, which, by the way, also gradually increases to the value specified in the profile.

Touching any part of the front panel with your fingers while the alarm is sounding activates the delayed wake-up function - the lamp remains lit and the sound repeats after 9 minutes. Complete shutdown alarm clock is performed by pressing a button Alarm 1 (Alarm 2), and also with buttons On/off radio, Menu or Fall asleep.

Everything seems to be complete with the main functions of the device, all that remains is to talk about a couple of things additional settings. So, when pressing the buttons simultaneously Alarm 1 And Alarm 2 The default “dawn” duration of 30 minutes appears. The user can choose from 20 to 40 minutes in five-minute increments. Pressing and holding only Alarm 1 or Alarm 2 optionally activates a 90-second demo mode demonstrating the capabilities of the device. Finally, press and hold for at least 5 seconds the button On/off The radio disables the software clicks of the touch buttons.

It is worth noting that the alarm clock is quite “stuffed” with controls and all sorts of settings, and therefore before starting operation it would be a good idea to look at the detailed complete user manual, and if something goes wrong during the process, refer to the “Troubleshooting” section. .

And finally, a few words about the sound quality of the built-in alarm clock speaker and its current consumption from the network. There are no complaints about the reproduction of signals, but when listening to the radio, the sound sounds a bit muffled, compressed, the speaker clearly lacks high frequencies.

Current consumption from the network in standby mode (hours) is only 4 mA, when the radio is operating at maximum volume - 12 mA, with minimum and maximum light intensity of the lamp on - 8 mA and 34 mA, respectively.

Conclusion

Traditionally, alarm clock Wake-up Light spent about a week on “night tests”. He woke me up according to science, gradually, and most importantly, regularly - he never let me down. How do you feel about such innovations? To be honest, they are interesting, but not particularly pronounced.

The alarm clock box contains information that 9 out of 10 users of this device wake up easier and more alert. Such a study was conducted in 2013 in Germany by Metrixlab by surveying 109 respondents.

As for personal feelings, subjectively, a lot depends on the degree of fatigue the day before, that is, in one case you can wake up only by the sound, safely missing the entire “half-hour dawn”, and in another time, you really wake up in the light, even before the bell rings. It’s difficult to determine whether this is due to the alarm clock or simply the body has already rested, but let’s give it its due - there were most of these cases during the week. And at the end of the week, having gotten used to the alarm clock, a “life hack” emerged - by accidentally waking up and opening your eyes, you can immediately determine whether it’s time to get up or whether you still have at least 30 minutes.

The above reasoning suggests that a week of use is still not enough to accumulate statistics and clearly understand the advantages or disadvantages of a device. In any case, it was an interesting experience and some of the most high-tech wake-ups, and it was also probably the most expensive alarm clock in practice.

The idea for this alarm clock was suggested by nature itself!

Philips Wake-up Light HF3505 Provides natural awakening with a unique combination of light and sound. Like the morning sun Philips Wake-up Light HF3505 gradually fills the room with increasingly bright light. The sounds of nature waking up at dawn or the composition of your favorite FM radio station complete your awakening.

Now you will wake up easier and feel much more energetic!

Sounds of nature - 2 types

At the time you set, a signal will sound - the sound of nature, helping you to wake up completely. The volume of the sound you select will gradually increase over one and a half minutes to the specified level. You can choose one of two birdsong options.

Bedside lamp

Each person has their own sensitivity to light. As a rule, with more high intensity light, it takes less time for a person to fully wake up. The light intensity of the Wake-up Light can be individually adjusted up to 200 lux, with a total of 10 light intensity levels. During the dawn simulation, the light changes from yellow to bright yellow.

Proven by scientists

To date, the Philips Wake-up Light alarm clock is the only alarm clock whose effectiveness has been scientifically proven. To ensure that the Wake-up Light alarm clock helps you wake up as naturally as possible and energizes you, Philips has conducted numerous clinical studies. Philips involved independent scientific organizations in research that studied the effect of light on the awakening process in general. This is how Philips received proof that the Wake-up Light alarm clock is not only a natural awakening, but also a charge of vigor and good mood in the morning.

Delay function

Snooze your alarm with just one touch. After 9 minutes the signal will repeat again with increasing volume.

How to choose a light alarm clock

When planning to buy a sunrise and birdsong alarm clock to make waking up easier in the morning, pay attention to a number of parameters. First, decide on your budget, and based on it, narrow down the choice of optimal lighting device models. Think about whether a large alarm clock or a small compact model is more suitable for you. Other recommendations:

  • Pay attention to the brightness setting - it should completely suit you so that the light is not overly bright or dim. It would be good if the lighting device allows you to adjust this parameter.
  • Sustainability. It is very important that the alarm clock stays in place securely, so it is advisable to have rubberized non-slip feet.
  • Make sure your lighting device can play tunes from radio stations.
  • The number of melodies and sounds of nature. The more, the better, as a rule. All sounds should be relaxing and pleasant to the ear.
  • It’s good if the light comes with batteries.

For many, waking up with an alarm clock is absolute hell. What should I do? I need to go to work, study or take my child to kindergarten(school). We, of course, are trying to somehow smooth it out with pleasant melodies, but it’s still a nightmare. You open your eyes, next to (in my case) an iPhone that sings (albeit with pleasant chimes): “Wake up, my master, I want to tell you that you don’t have to oversleep for work today.” Since I have to get up quite early, the room is dark and I, rubbing my eyes, get up and barely move my legs, thinking that life is very hard, and trudge to wash. But how nice it is to wake up in the summer outside the city, when gentle sunlight fills the room, and birds sing outside the window. Why am I all this? But the fact is, Philips decided to make sure that we always wake up to a pleasant sunrise, feeling that our house is in the garden or in the forest or on the seashore. It's much nicer, isn't it?

In our review we will talk about Philips Wake-Up Light HF3550 - alarm clock / light for iPhone 4(S), iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 4(3)g- a device that will turn your morning into a holiday and give you a boost of energy for the whole day.

And now in more detail:

1. Packaging and delivery:

Before us is a cardboard box of not very large sizes,

By tearing it off, you can immediately get brief information about Wake-Up Light

Gradually opening the package

We see first brief instructions,

And then the main part - the lamp itself in a protective bag

Under the cardboard insert

The power supply, instructions and cradle for the iOS device are contained in a white cardboard box.

Here's the whole set

2. Design features:

The main part of the alarm clock is an elegantly shaped lamp with a convex front part,

At the bottom of which are electronic watch and several indicators.

On the top edge there are light and sound control buttons.

In the rear view you can see the grille of the built-in speaker and connectors for connecting the power supply and cradle

Lamp dimensions: 19.9cm x 19.2cm x 14.6cm
Weight: 1.25kg
Maximum light intensity: 300 lux

The cradle is made in a rather traditional form,

But one detail deserves special attention: the connection connector does not start directly from the bottom of the cradle, but is slightly raised by a plastic insert. In our case, this allowed us to install the iPhone 4S without removing the bumper (SGP)

The materials from which both the lamp and the cradle are made are high-quality two-layer plastic: first, matte white inside, and transparent on top. Looks very modern and attractive.

To prevent slipping on the surface, the cradle and lamp have silicone feet on their base:

The power supply is quite compact and has the following characteristics:

3. Working principle:

To begin with, we note that there are several operating modes: alarm clock, “comfortable falling asleep,” listening to music, and just a table lamp with a clock.

a) Preparation for work:

We install the lamp in a place convenient for us (usually on the bedside table), connect the power adapter (the lamp turns on and the clock starts blinking 00:00)

And connect the cradle. To use the iOS device with the device, you must install the program from App Store called "Wake-up Light - Philips" (free)

Now we put the iPhone (in our case) in the cradle (the device starts charging immediately), after which the program will ask for permission to communicate with Philips Wake-up Light

Which we, of course, give and the clock begins to show the current time (iPhone time)

When we first launch the program, we go through a “young fighter course” on managing the device and the basic configuration and management capabilities:

After which we can start using the device and setting up its functions:

b) Working in alarm mode

At the bottom, select Wake Up, and then click on the “+” with a bell in the upper right corner
We choose the time when we need to wake up.
Set the time interval, how many minutes before sound signal the lamp will start to glow (from 20 to 40 minutes)
We install a melody from the iOS library, or better yet, from the collection of the program itself (birds chirping, etc.) and its volume
You can also set the maximum intensity of the glow and set the signal delay interval.
That's all - let's go to bed peacefully.

In the morning, for the time we set before the signal, the lamp starts to turn on. At first, the glow resembles a faint reddish dawn, then smoothly changes with increasing brightness, repeating all the color shades of the rising sun to a rather bright white-yellow color (I repeat, we set the intensity of the maximum light ourselves during setup).

IN set time The chirping of forest birds begins (we set the Forest sound profile), and the volume gradually increases, and does not start screaming immediately, as in a regular alarm clock.

appears on the iPhone screen

Now we can wake up and calmly turn off the “Stop alarm” alarm clock or soak up a little more in bed for a certain time (again, the previously set “Snooze duration” time from 5 to 20 minutes in the alarm clock sound settings). To do this, we either touch the lamp with our fingers, or on the iPhone we select “Snooze”.

c) Comfortable sleep mode

To do this, at the bottom of the program, select the “Fall asleep” tab and the period of time during which the lamp should slowly go out (the light intensity decreases, and the color scheme changes in the reverse, morning order). You can also turn on music, but I liked it without it. If we have an alarm clock set, then iPhone screen looks like this (30 minutes time to fall asleep and at 8.35 - rise).

d) Music mode:

You can use the lamp as and music column. You launch the player on the iPhone, on the Philips we turn on the sound on the top edge and listen to music, the volume can also be adjusted on the lamp (an indication of changes in the volume level temporarily appears instead of displaying the time). At the same time, the device can be either with the light on or without it.

e) Lamp mode:

If you remove the iOS device from the cradle, the current time display will remain (until you unplug the power adapter), and the device can also be used simply as a table lamp. The power button is also located on the top, as well as the brightness adjustment buttons (the change indication is also displayed instead of the clock).

f) Additions:

What else I would like to note: the possibility of additional settings, saving statistics and building graphs of your sleep, ease of control and... we almost forgot, the brightness of the clock and indicators changes automatically, depending on the brightness of the light in the room (there is a sensor somewhere inside the device illumination).

4. Conclusions:

We’ll answer right away - the device is wonderful! It can take its rightful place in two sections at once.

Philips Wake-up Light has long gained popularity in the West and is spreading with confidence in the domestic market. And for good reason, in its line Philips returned to the natural sources of natural awakening. And what could be more natural than waking up to the sunrise? But it didn’t end there, Philips went further in their aspirations to unite with nature and introduced natural sounds into their alarm clocks, such as birdsong, the sound of rain, surf, thunder and so on. You can not only wake up to an alarm clock, but also fall asleep when the sun sets. This way of going to bed will be an excellent signal for the body that you need to sleep and over time you will stop tossing and turning before going to bed.

IN this review we will look at the main representatives of the Philips Wake-up Light line of light alarm clocks, how they differ and whether it is worth overpaying for older models.

All models in the series have a number of similar functions; we will list them so as not to repeat them for each alarm clock.

Each Philips Wake-up Light alarm clock model has the following features:

  • Time display.
  • Reading lamp function
  • Can be used as a night light
  • Four display contrast levels: very low, low, medium, high

Philips Wake-up Light HF3500

Editor's rating:

Average price: 90$

Illumination in lux: 200

Alarm features:

  • Awakening by increasing light and sound signal

Model features:

HF3500 is the youngest model in the Wake-up Light line, here all the functions and capabilities of the alarm clock are reduced to a minimum. The main control is carried out by 4 buttons on the front side, as well as several mechanical ones, the same signal delay button and a button for adjusting the display brightness. Pay attention! Here you cannot adjust the signal melody and sound volume; these values are set by default. The signal melody is a regular beep without imitating the sounds of nature, first the alarm clock wakes you up by increasing the lighting, and in the final part it begins to make a sound, so you will definitely wake up. Like all other models, the HF3500 light alarm clock can be used as a regular lamp or night light.

Model features:

Philips Wake-up Light HF3520 expectedly increased the number of melodies for awakening, now there are five of them, presented: birdsong, forest trills, Zen garden, piano and the sound of the surf. An interesting feature was the automatic adjustment of the display brightness depending on the ambient light; the less outside light, the weaker the display shines until it turns off completely. Dawn now takes place in 3 stages, first there is soft red, which moves to orange, and this in turn to yellow, which provides the most natural imitation of dawn. A special feature of the model is the ability to set two alarms

Philips Wake-up Light HF3550

Model features:

The oldest model in the Philips Wake-up Light line has a traditionally increased number of nature melodies, there are 8 pieces, but this is far from its main advantage. The main feature of the device was the control of alarm clocks through an application on the iPhone, plus the alarm clock comes with a docking station under it with which you can charge or listen to music using the alarm clock speakers. Everything would be fine if it weren't so sad, because supportIphoneends with 4th generation, which are no longer relevant at all in 2017.
