Note 8 so that the screen is always on. How to set up the Find my Mobile service on Samsung Galaxy and Note phones

Camera overview Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is the best dual camera in 2017. I can endlessly criticize ergonomics Galaxy cases Note 8, but what you can't take away from the phone is its excellent camera quality. This will be discussed in this review.

  • Main camera: double, 12 MP, Dual Pixel, 1.4 micron, 1/2.55″, autofocus, flash, optical stabilization, f/1.7 + f/2.4, 2x optical zoom, 4K video recording
  • Front camera: 8 MP, f/1.7, 1/3.6″, 1.22 µm

Interface design and usability

Many people like to criticize software Samsung shell Galaxy Note 8 and its clumsiness compared to bare Android, but in some elements Samsung developers have made great progress.

Let's talk about the application Galaxy cameras Note 8, which, in my opinion, is one of the most convenient and fastest among current premium smartphones. Clear, clean user interface with a thoughtful settings menu completes the pleasant experience.

Of all the camera apps that I have seen and tested, probably only the Leica app in Huawei flagships() is implemented objectively better. There is a clearer call to manual settings, and additional modes easier to turn on.

I was able to find only two obvious mistakes in the design of the Note 8 camera interface:

  1. The camera often confuses swiping from left to right to call up modes with switching to the front camera. Sometimes this was annoying, especially when I urgently wanted to get into manual settings. That's why I mentioned the Huawei Leica app, where enabling Pro mode is implemented more elegantly.
  2. Pressing the video recording button does not lead to the corresponding mode, but immediately starts recording. This is also a so-so solution, because it would be much clearer if the photo and video modes had different windows.

Otherwise, the design and ergonomics of the Galaxy Note 8 (and other) camera app Samsung flagships) pleases. For everyday shooting, the Note 8 camera will be convenient to use.

I would like to note the decision of the Samsung developers to put all the settings for the photo and video parts in one window. The settings for the front camera are also stored there. In my opinion, this is convenient because you don’t need to navigate through all the windows in all modes, but you can immediately customize each mode for yourself in one settings window.

Functionality

Minor missteps in the Galaxy Note 8's camera interface become almost unnoticeable against the backdrop of its impressive functionality. Let's look at all the chips in order.

Photo

Auto mode. In this mode, the Galaxy Note 8 camera app has minimal capabilities. Samsung is focusing on the Bixby camera, Dynamic Focus and Stickers.

You can turn the flash on/off, switch to the front camera and open settings. It is possible to enable the interface without black frames.

Clicking circle x2 activates the telephoto lens. Switching from one camera to another occurs almost instantly, and this also applies to video shooting.

Now more about Stickers and Dynamic Focus:

Stickers- these are essentially interactive masks, like those in Snapchat or Instagram Stories. There are quite a few stickers, but why they are needed in a business-oriented smartphone for 70,000 rubles is unclear.

Will a respectable guy seriously play with stickers and put deer antlers on his head? I don't think so, it's more like Samsung's marketing team is in disarray.

Dynamic focus- This is portrait mode. When activated, the background is blurred, and the subject is highlighted using software methods. To take a photo with dynamic focusing, you need to stand at a distance of 1.2 meters from the subject.

Portrait mode works quickly and rarely makes mistakes if background not too complicated. Artifacts may appear on a non-uniform background (foliage, flowers, contrasting areas).

Video

As I said above, you can start shooting video directly from Auto mode, just click on the corresponding button and it will start recording immediately. The interface is as simple as possible - this is both good and bad at the same time. For ordinary users, this approach will be as convenient as possible, but advanced users will feel a lack of features (like manual focusing, sound settings, etc., like the LG G6).

While shooting video, you can move from one camera to another by pressing circle x2.

Galaxy Note 8 Camera Modes

About the mode. The manual camera mode of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is implemented in the best traditions of flagship Android smartphones. In addition to standard things like changing exposure, shutter speed, focusing range and ISO, here you can play with the focusing area (several focusing points or one in the center). There is also exposure metering, as in “adult” cameras - matrix, spot and center-weighted. I recommend using the latter.

Panorama. Built-in application that builds horizontal panoramas. Gluing goes quickly, if you do not shake the phone, you can achieve good results.

Slow Motion. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 camera shoots slow-motion video at 240 frames per second in HD resolution. Sparsely against the backdrop of the coolest slow-mo, quite within the limits of the flagships of 2017.

Hyperlapse. Samsung has made dual hyperlapse and timelapse in one mode, so accelerated videos can be shot both handheld and on a tripod.

Food. A very strange mode that is designed to make food photos more appetizing. In reality it is useless.

Virtual shooting. But this opportunity really delivered. Using virtual photography, you can make 3D images of any stationary objects and even people. The resulting result can be rotated at any angle in the company gallery.

Settings

In the camera settings of the Galaxy Note 8, I noticed that the HDR algorithms apply not only to the main dual camera, but also to the front camera.

I like that you can set the resolution and shooting parameters for photos and videos directly in one window. It’s great when you don’t have to run around different windows looking for settings.

Motion snapshot is an interesting feature for gif fans. Works like Live Photos on iPhone. Record a short video clip before each photo.

There is a quick launch of the camera. Once this option is activated, you can start the camera by quickly double-pressing the power button.

How the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 camera shoots

In short, the Galaxy Note 8's camera takes excellent photos. But I think you want proofs, so there will be a bunch of example shots below.

Photography

The ability to take good photographs is the most important factor when talking about camera quality flagship smartphone. Therefore, let's start with photography.

Test shots of Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

Daytime shooting (scroll right):

Night photography:

Despite the noticeable oversharping in some scenes, the Galaxy Note 8 camera handles white balance competently, and it has very fast and tenacious autofocus. The pictures always come out clear and contrasty, and if you're not a fan of fiddling with editors before sending a photo to Instagram, you'll probably consider the Galaxy Note 8's camera to be the best.

However, this is not entirely true. Advanced users will immediately answer you what to work with iPhone photos 8 Plus/7 Plus is easier than taking photos from the Galaxy Note 8. The iPhone takes less expressive, even faded photos, but it’s a pleasure to “twist” such photos in Snapseed. Samsung engineers took a different route, roughly speaking, by building the editor directly into the camera algorithms. Therefore, pictures on the Galaxy Note 8 always look advantageous and brighter than many other premium smartphones

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 portrait mode.

Let’s take a separate look at how the portrait mode of the Galaxy Note 8 camera works. Look how skillfully the Samsung camera algorithms (Dynamic Focus mode) highlight the subject. In my opinion, the quality of such portraits on the Galaxy Note 8 is better than on iPhones with dual camera.

When shooting in low light, the Note 8 telephoto leaves no chance for the iPhone. Thanks to optical stabilization and higher aperture optics (F/2.4 for Note 8 versus F/2.8 for iPhone 8 Plus/7 Plus), Galaxy Note 8 is the only smartphone on the market that can shoot at this level. Night portrait photography is completely beyond the Galaxy Note 8.

Video shooting

Less important parameter for most users, but very important for those who like to shoot video on a smartphone. Such people are ready to sacrifice quality in terms of photos, just so that video shooting is at the maximum level. Therefore, here I have collected all possible tests with different resolutions and FPS.

In each test, I used two Galaxy Note 8 cameras at once to see what the telephoto camera is capable of in comparison with the main wide-angle camera, as well as to look at the speed of switching from camera to camera and the performance of stabilization.

FHD 30 fps video recording test in a still state:

FHD 30 fps video recording test in motion (stabilization check):

FHD 60 fps recording test while still:

FHD 60 fps recording test in motion (stabilization check):

Still 4K 30 fps video recording test:

4K 30 fps recording test in motion (stabilization check):

In FHD 60 fps mode, the camera does not allow switching to telephoto. I did not find an explanation for why such a limitation was set, but given the poor performance of stabilization in this mode on the main camera, Samsung engineers could have considered that there would be complete “shaking” on the TV.

Most likely, this is so, because shooting in 60 FPS mode is really difficult, there is a feeling that optical stabilization does not work in this mode, there is a very striking difference between the quality of stabilization in FHD 30 fps and FHD 60 fps.

Conclusion

Despite my ambivalence about Samsung smartphones and their software, I admit that their flagship cameras are some of the best on the market. This is especially true of the Galaxy Note 8 with a dual camera that is head and shoulders above the competition.

I would like to thank Samsung Service Plaza in Minsk for providing the Galaxy Note 8 sample for review. This is the most official service center and at the same time a branded store of Samsung smartphones and accessories.Samsung Service Plaza knows how to repair quickly and efficiently, and phone repairs are carried out in the presence of the client.

Correct and accessible information on how set up Samsung Galaxy internet, necessary for every owner of this phone.

The problem of setting up the Internet on Samsung Galaxy and Note smartphones concerns devices of the “gray” type, since the overwhelming majority of certified profiles already have the Internet configured.

Samsung Galaxy smartphones and the Internet

All smartphones Samsung Corporation Galaxy have the ability to access world wide web. There may be several options:

  1. Via a 3G operator, for example, LTE-A, LTE, GPR, EDGE.
  2. By connecting to Wi-Fi.

Setting up 3G/4G Internet on Samsung Galaxy

It should be noted that most methods of connecting to the Internet via 3G/4G operator networks have a paid basis. But there are optimal options, such as unlimited tariff or special offers, which are most often represented by megabytes included in a specific service. In the latter case, it is necessary to check the correct operation of the Internet.

You can find out more about the tariffs of MTS or your telecom operator.

Thanks to the special data transfer settings provided by your chosen telecom operator, you can make sure that there are no problems with connecting to the Internet. This is done in several steps:

  1. Find the “Settings” menu on your smartphone and open it;
  2. open “Other networks”;
  3. go to " Mobile networks»;
  4. open "Access Points". At this stage, you can find out what Internet access profiles are available on your mobile device or make sure that they are missing.

If the Internet is available, you will only have to ensure that data transmission is turned on in the so-called “blind”. If there is no access profile, then you will need to set it up yourself or contact the network operator using a toll-free service phone number. It’s not particularly difficult to set up access yourself; you just need to fill in the “profile name” field, as well as all the fields in the “access point”.

Setting up the Internet via Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is rightfully the most accessible and inexpensive way to access the Internet through Samsung Galaxy and Note smartphones. Despite the fact that there are paid networks, free Wi-Fi can be found everywhere and in large quantities. This makes this connection very convenient.

Everyone can get their own Fi-Wi, you just need to buy it from specialized retail outlets router. The cost of such a device does not exceed 600 rubles. Having purchased the device, all you have to do is contact your provider so that the technicians can set up the device for you at a time convenient for you.

Wi-Fi networks are available for your Samsung Galaxy and Note in many public places: shopping malls, cafes or train stations. Such Internet has undeniable advantages: it is completely free, has good speed and stability.

What if the Internet doesn't work? Your actions

If you have set up the Internet on your Samsung Galaxy smartphone, but for some reason it does not work, you should find the cause of the failure. First of all, check your account balance. If everything is fine with it, use online service your telecom operator and activate data services. Be sure to check with your operator which Internet access service package will be optimal for your needs. tariff plan, acting on at the moment. You need to make sure that GSM/WCDMA mode is enabled in your gadget’s network settings.

Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones have some of the best cameras V mobile devices, but since they offer few improvements over the Galaxy S7, they haven't attracted much attention. And in vain, because despite the use of a single 12 megapixel module, the Galaxy S8 is one of best smartphones in terms of photographic capabilities.

The Galaxy Note line of smartphones is designed to promote new hardware components, but this time nothing radical has appeared here. Of course, the rear camera has become dual, each module has , but the question arises, do people want to shoot from twice the distance or with artificial background blur?

There will certainly be people interested. Note 8 meets these two needs and saves highest quality photos and videos of the main sensor. The Note 8's camera is one of the best on Android. Below we will tell you why.

The quality of the main camera speaks for itself

Even if the secondary camera did not appear, the main one is one of the best in modern smartphones. For the S8 line, Samsung has started using an updated 12MP sensor, although rumors claimed that the sensor would remain unchanged from the S7. In most cases this means small improvements in quality. The Note 8 developers had a few more months to make additional improvements and optimizations. Although most photos are no different from the S8, the camera application launches a little faster thanks to software optimization and increased volume RAM for 2 GB.

Testing showed extremely warm toned images, rich colors, high definition. Software correctly determines shutter speed and exposure settings for different shooting scenes. Like the S8, the Note 8 mostly displays high quality photos. Can be used in the most difficult shooting conditions manual mode, which is also among the best. You can manually set focus and other settings that are usually only available on mirrorless and DSLR digital cameras.

Live Focus is an interesting toy

Galaxy Note 8

This section will compare Live Focus photos on the Note 8 and Portrait mode on the 7 Plus. The latter produces simpler images and blurs the background more than Samsung device. Good news is that the Note 8 allows you to adjust the blur effect in real time. This helps to find the right combination between realism and effect. On the other hand, even the maximum application of the blur effect does not reach the level of the iPhone.

The Note 8's Live Focus mode uses a second camera to create a 3D depth map of an image. It separates the foreground object from the background. This is similar to using lenses with a very narrow depth of image, which creates a bokeh effect. In this case, it is artificial, since the sensor on a smartphone is tiny, and the lenses are even smaller.

Although this is Samsung's first attempt in this direction, the developers coped with their task brilliantly. There are shooting scenarios in which the edges of the subject are slightly cropped, but this does not happen often. In the sample photos shown, Note 8 is not far behind last year's Apple devices.

Fast zoom

Digital zoom does not satisfy the needs of all photographers. When there is no actual lens movement, digital zoom is a form of cropping.

Galaxy Note 8 @ 1x, 2x, 10x

The exception is smartphones with telephoto lenses, such as the Galaxy Note 8. And here the lenses cannot be called true telephoto, but they have a focal length almost twice as high as on the main camera, which allows you to shoot at a distance of 2 times greater without loss of quality and lose much more less at 10x magnification.

Thus, you should not be afraid to use zoom on the Galaxy Note 8, at least compared to other smartphones the quality is at a higher level.

Galaxy Note 8 @ 10x

iPhone 7 Plus @ 10x

When you compare 10x zoom shots on the Note 8 and iPhone 7 Plus, the benefits of the improved sensor are reflected in the reduction in digital noise when shooting the sky and making text on advertisements more readable.

Slow Motion

The new Samsung device allows you to shoot at 240 fps at 720p resolution. The results are very high quality.

Samsung makes it easy to find the slow motion mode in the camera app and even easier to use it. The gallery also includes video editing tools, which have been improved over last year's Galaxy models. This will allow you to quickly edit videos without having to transfer them to your computer.

Built-in photo editing

Continuing with the editing theme, there are options in the gallery to enhance your images. Basic functions Things like rotation, cropping, and filters are available in the default editing suite, and tapping the menu button launches Photo Editor Pro and lets you make more subtle changes like highlighting and colors. These types of modes are usually available in professional editing packages like Lightroom. I just wish these opportunities were in a more visible place.

High quality photos in low light

The main camera has a 12 megapixel sensor and f/1.7 lenses. The second camera has a 12 megapixel sensor and f/2.4 lenses. In both cases there is optical image stabilization.

This means that nice photos should be obtained at any level of lighting, regardless of trembling hands or magnification of the image. The presence of optical stabilization on the second camera means that it is more likely to take part in shooting in low light, instead of switching to the main camera with digital zoom.

Other modes

Swiping to the right in the camera app opens up additional functionality that owners of previous Galaxy Note models may be familiar with. There are shooting modes: “Food”, “Sports”, Hyperlapse, slow motion. Separately, we can call GIF animation.

If you don't want to install to create GIFs third party applications or they don't suit your needs, you can do it right in the camera app. You just need to download this mode from the Galaxy Apps store, for which you need a Samsung account.

Activating Quick Launch

Reading time: 3 min

Galaxy Note 8 is big smartphone Samsung, but its battery is not the largest. To ensure that the body remains relatively thin, light and comfortable in the hand by the standards of a device with a 6.3-inch screen diagonal, the developers installed a battery with a capacity of only 3300 mAh.

For the average user on a normal day, this is enough, but not everyone loads their smartphones equally and sometimes there are cases of higher load when more energy is consumed.

For such situations, tips for optimizing the Galaxy Note 8 will be given below.

Use Power Saving Mode

The easiest way to increase the battery life of your smartphone is to activate the built-in power saving mode. There are two of them, of which you will probably use one, namely the middle one. In it, the developers tried to find a balance between saving energy and maintaining the functionality of the smartphone.

Screen brightness decreases, processor slows down slightly, network usage decreases background, Always On Display is disabled.

You can configure this mode at Settings > Device support > Battery. Select this power mode and click the Configure button to change the settings. For example, you can save background network activity for applications and services to run.

When the smartphone is close to discharge, the system will display a window asking you to turn on the power saving mode; you can also activate it yourself in quick settings.

Look for power hungry apps

System Android Nougat knows how to drive perfectly background processes and applications, and Samsung adds additional elements management. Despite this, if you install a poorly made third-party app, it can drain your energy too quickly.

To check apps, go to Settings > Device support > Battery and look at the power consumption of different apps. Usually you can see many programs that use 1%-3% of the charge per day, but at a value of 5%-10% you need to take action. You can delete the application or clear its data and start again if something has gone wrong in the program configuration.

Setting up automatic application synchronization

Some programs use the battery every day, but they are useful or even critical for the operation of the smartphone. The greatest contribution to energy consumption can be made by programs with backup and synchronization with cloud services in the background. This is done so that the user has access to this application With different devices and the information was the same. You don't have to use the default settings if runtime is more important to you than synchronization.

Application Samsung Gallery automatically produces backup photos when the device is connected to Wi-Fi networks, also comes the application Google Photos. Most music apps and podcasts have a feature that automatically downloads playlists. Look at the settings of similar applications and try to force them to update less frequently. There may even be settings available that will allow you to download data only while the device is charging.

Removing unnecessary applications

Continuing the theme of bad programs, the most obvious way to deal with them is to remove unnecessary ones. Most users have dozens of applications installed on their smartphones, some have hundreds, but they regularly use only a portion of them. These idle applications can waste energy throughout the day and take up unnecessary disk space. Even if it seems that the program is using little energy, a large amount of it can deprive you of several percent of your charge per day.

Open the list of applications, look at them and think about which ones you can do without. If you don't run apps for weeks, you can probably live without them at all. If necessary, you can always install them back. Such applications are saved in the store library Play Store in the previously installed applications section.

Turn off auto-updates for Google Play and Galaxy apps

Shop Google Play And Galaxy apps Apps try to automatically update programs, for the average user this is best option. But they don’t care about exactly when to update and do it at any time when the device is connected to Wi-Fi, regardless of the charge level. Can be disabled automatic updates. Open the Play Store, click on the button with three vertical stripes in the upper left corner, Settings > Auto-update applications > Never. Here you can turn on notifications for updates so you don't forget about them.

Now open the Galaxy Apps store, tap on the menu button in the top right corner, Settings > Automatic app updates > Disable. Also turn on alerts when updates are available.

Disable unused communication standards

If you do not use some communication standards on your smartphone, disable them so as not to waste extra energy. This applies to major communication standards such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. When you're not actively using them, your smartphone still uses them to different tasks. For example, it searches around for devices to connect to, and the information is also used to determine the location of the smartphone when running location services.

They may waste a little energy, but it still happens. You can click on the icons of these options in the panel quick settings and turn it off. Also go to Settings > Connectivity > Location and tap Improve Accuracy. Here you can disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning, which occurs by default even when communication options are disabled.
