At first I looked closely at the strict one on Windows Phone 8.1, but then it came out new Windows 10 Mobile and a new line of smartphones: , . A little later the 650th came out. The appearance of the Lumia 650 immediately captivated me: aluminum frame, thin, stylish. Many recognized this smartphone as one of the most beautiful Lumiyas. Of course, reviews of Windows 10 Mobile were not very flattering, and the latest Lumiya’s hardware was rather weak. But I wasn’t going to play “heavy” toys on my phone, so I decided to take a risk. And now, for almost a year now, I have been the owner of the Lumia 650! Over the course of this year, I have studied this smartphone model very well and below I will tell you everything that I liked and did not like about it.
So, the overall impression is positive! I have never regretted purchasing this phone. I want to say right away that I am writing a review as an ordinary user who does not test the gadget “from all angles” and does not look at what the picture is, for example, on the screen at viewing angles less than 30 degrees and what the screen’s white balance is. I'm just saying what suits me and what doesn't. At the time of writing this review, the following software version is installed on the phone: 1703 ( Creators Update), build: 10.0.15063.540. Let's go!
Equipment. The equipment is standard for the “latest” Lumiya: phone, battery, charger, documentation. Many people complain that there is no headset, but I will say this: no matter how much I looked at the standard headsets of various phones, I have never seen a decent one (I have never seen a headset from an iPhone). Therefore, I prefer to buy the headset myself.
Appearance . As I already said, appearance gorgeous. Viewing various reviews I noticed on the Internet that many people pay attention to the creaks and gaps in the back panels (of any phone) and the plastic material. I can’t say anything here, because... I always preferred to use covers. Therefore, when buying a phone, I opened the collapsible back cover, took out the battery, inserted the SIM card and SD card, put the battery back, closed the panel, and inserted the phone into the case. All! I never took it out of there again! Therefore, I can’t say anything about whether it’s erased back panel or not, whether it plays or not - I don’t care.
Screen . There are no complaints about the display. Display: size - 5", expansion - 1280x720, technology - AMOLED, safety glass– Corning Gorilla Glass 3, oleophobic coating. The screen is very nice, the finger glides easily, the touchpad works clearly. Cleaning the screen is also very easy. The screen brightness is enough for me, automatic adjustment works adequately. For a year, not a single scratch appeared on the screen (the case probably contributed to this).
OS interface. As I already noted, I really liked the live tiles. Color, transparency, tile size and much more - everything is customizable! It’s very nice to watch how photos change, contact avatars move, notifications from the calendar, email, news sections, instant messengers, etc. scroll through. Great! Indeed, the desktop is alive!
I really liked the proprietary Glance Screen technology, i.e. when turned off, the phone displays a clock with date, as well as notifications from various applications (calendar, e-mail, instant messengers, missed calls, etc.). It's really very convenient! No need to press the power button to view the time and alerts. By the way, the color of the display of clocks and alerts in this mode can be adjusted, and for a certain interval of the day. For example, I have the color set to blue from 0:00 to 6:00; It’s very convenient to take a sleepy look at your phone at night, see blue letters and fall back onto the pillow, knowing that you’re still a long way from getting up! I have not seen this either on Android or iOS.
Transfer contacts. The transition from my previous phone (Nokia 603) was surprisingly easy. Entered account Microsoft - all my contacts and photos were immediately downloaded from the cloud, I logged into my GMail account - mail and my Google calendars. Great!
Performance. Not everything is smooth here. The phone is equipped Qualcomm processor Snapdragon 212 (4 cores, 1300 MHz) and 1 GB RAM. A little weak, not enough! It’s normal not to play with “heavy” toys. But, personally, I almost never play games on my phone, with the exception of Chess, Plant vs. Zombies and Subway Surfers. Another thing is that sometimes I notice lag in the interface or in the operation of individual applications. The applications themselves also take longer to launch than, for example, on Android. I think the reason is precisely lack of memory. Why it was impossible to install at least 2 GB of RAM - a mystery!? But, for me, this is not critical.
Autonomy. Battery capacity 2000 mAh. Not enough! However, it all depends on the use of the smartphone. As a rule, one charge is enough for me to work for a day. When commuting to work, I listen to music or watch videos, read the news during the day, make calls, check emails, communicate periodically via instant messengers, and, as a result, only charge my phone before going to bed. On weekends, when there are almost no calls and the Internet is used at home, the battery charge lasts for 1.5 days or more. For example, the wife Huawei smartphone P9 Lite has a 3000 mAh battery, but she, like me, charges her smartphone almost every day. Conclusion: everything is relative, overall the battery is satisfactory, but it could have been more powerful.
Connection . The connection does not cause any complaints. The phone receives the signal perfectly, the sound is also very good, the volume is sufficient. There are very useful feature– recording of a conversation. WI-FI also works stably.
Camera. The smartphone has two cameras: main (8 MP) and front (5 MP). Very pleased with both. If we compare them, for example, with the cameras of the same Huawei P9 Lite (main – 13MP, front – 8MP), then I like the quality of pictures on the Lumia 650 better. On my phone, I never strive for high quality photos or videos. If I need quality, I take a camera. A flash (flashlight) is also present.
Applications. Compared to stores Google Play and App Stote applications in Windows Store really not enough. It is clear that developers bypass this system, because... its market share is very small. Sometimes even classic applications that have been available on other platforms for a very long time are missing, for example, the official YouTube client. Well, regarding the last example, the reason is competition, and nothing more, but Windows 10 Mobile has an excellent client, myTube (better than YouTube), although it is paid, but for me, paying one dollar for a decent program is no problem.
My requirement for the list of programs is small: a browser, mail client, messengers (Viber, WhatsApp, Skype), Office, navigator, player, radio. I found all this in the "Shop". Clients social networks(Odnoklassniki, VKontakte, Facebook, Instagram) are also available. Of course, the variety is small. For example, there is no worthy alternative to the Edge browser. Developers no longer support some applications. For example, the Priorbank application ( mobile client Priorbank) is buggy and not supported; Priorbank recently launched a payment service via NFC and released the corresponding Prior Pay application, but it is only available for Android. It's a shame! Otherwise everything is fine!
Mail Outlook client great, music player Music Groove is excellent, the Movie and TV video player is okay. By the way, there are enough players in the store. There are also plenty of navigators: in addition to the built-in Maps navigator, there is the excellent Yandex Navigator, as well as the beloved Navitel (although it is paid, like on all other platforms). All navigation programs reviewed are current and periodically updated. The location feature works well.
Viber, WhatsApp, Skype messengers work great and are all updated.
I liked that the platform already has a built-in OneDrive application and all documents and photos are automatically synchronized with the cloud. I took a picture of something and separate computer You can view everything from the cloud at once. The Office suite is also synchronized with it. Great!
I really liked the People (contacts) application. Various telephone numbers, email, Skype and Viber contacts - everything is included in one contact profile, and if an avatar is not installed on the contact, it can be automatically installed from the linked Skype contact. Class!
Operation stability. Over the course of a year of use, the smartphone never froze, which is why I had to specifically reboot it. Of course, I overloaded it after updates or incorrect operation of individual applications, but I’ll talk about that below.
Problems. I, along with many users Lumia 650, I discovered a problem with sound playback through the headset: the sound in music or video players periodically disappears and some error code is thrown. Until you restart the phone, there will be no sound. This problem is old and does not go away with updates.
