How to open the windows 7 service manager. Elements of the msc Management Console snap-in

Striving to provide for everything possible options using windows, the developers have equipped it with many services, some of which are needed only by a small number of users. For the rest, these components are a burden, a waste of RAM and computer resources. You can find information on which services can be disabled without harming the system, as well as instructions on how to enable and disable components, in our article.

How to open service (component) management in Windows 7

Through the search bar

Press the "Start" button, then type in the search bar: services.msc, press "Enter".

Using the search bar

As a result, the "Services" window opens with a list, description and current state of services.

Detailed list of installed services

It is very convenient to edit the list of components using this window, since each service is supplied with a description that allows you to understand its tasks and assess the need.

In order to see the description, just select the line of interest in the list with the mouse.

Through the "Control Panel"

You can achieve the same result using the Control Panel. First, we open it.

Open the "Control Panel"

In the window "All controls" select the item "Administration".

Choose "Administration"

After the “Administration” window appears on the screen, we look for the line “Services” in its main part.

Find "Services" in the main window

By double-clicking the left mouse button on it, we open the required window with the same name.

From the command line

You can also access the list of components we need using command line... We call it by simultaneously pressing the Win keys (usually it displays a proprietary Windows flag) and R. After the "Run" window appears on the screen, type the msconfig command in the input line.

We get access to the "System Configuration"

We select the on-screen button "OK" and get access to the "System Configuration" window, in which we find the "Services" tab.

Open the "Services" tab

What components can you safely remove?

When choosing applications that you can do without, you need to act consciously, that is, do not touch those services whose purpose or need is not very clear. It is better to leave something useless in memory than to delete the necessary, jeopardizing system stability and data security. If in doubt, you should look for additional information about the component, and then make a decision.

List of services that can be turned off

  1. Remote registry. Allows other users to edit the registry. It is advisable to remove this component for greater security of your computer.
  2. Fax. It is very rarely used nowadays to receive fax messages. If we do not plan to use the computer as a fax, turn it off.
  3. Registration service windows errors... Generates a log of non-standard situations - errors, freezes or crashes of applications. Disable.
  4. Changed links tracking client. Registers NTFS file transfers. Doesn't benefit the average user.
  5. Windows search. Speeds up built-in searches by processing user queries and indexing files. It will come in handy when searching for information on a computer intensively, in other cases it is almost useless.
  6. Parental control... Feel free to remove it, this is a stub inserted into the system for Vista compatibility.
  7. IP Helper. On the home computer useless.
  8. Print manager. The service manages printing. If the printer is not connected, delete.
  9. Secondary login. Allows you to run applications using a different account. Better to disable for security reasons.
  10. Tablet PC Input Service. Useful only if the computer has the ability handwriting or an electronic pen is connected.
  11. Windows defender... Don't touch it unless you have a good third-party antivirus installed. If a profile program is responsible for protection, then you can safely remove it.
  12. Windows Firewall. Similar to Windows Defender.
  13. Smart card. The service is needed if access control devices that use smart cards are used in the work. As a rule, useless in home computers, disable it.
  14. SSDP detection. SSDP Device Discovery Component, including household appliances with the appropriate capabilities. The protocol is one of the vulnerabilities in the security of the system, so if there is no need for it, it is better to disable the service for security reasons.
  15. Adaptive brightness control. It is needed to change the brightness of the screen depending on the illumination of the environment. Useful only if there is a light sensor, for example, in a laptop. In other cases, we disable it as useless.
  16. Computer browser. A network service that is unnecessary for a single computer.
  17. Access to HID devices. Provides the operation of input devices connected via USB ports: mouse, scanner, webcam, and so on. If none external devices not used, can be disabled.
  18. TPM core services. A component also refers to security systems that use hardware components. Leaving it only makes sense if you are using control devices based on TMP or BitLocker chips.
  19. IPsec Key Modules for Internet Key Exchange and Authenticated IP. The service is not needed by the vast majority of users. Used to provide additional high security for data exchange. Disable.
  20. Server. A network service that can be disabled for a non-networked computer.
  21. Offline files. A network component that allows you to work with files stored on the server offline. Useless for a single computer, disable it.
  22. IPSec Policy Agent. Also a service used to optimize the performance of a computer on a network. We remove.
  23. KtmRm for Distributed Transaction Coordinator. Used to distribute transactions across the network. If there is no network, the service is unnecessary.
  24. Bluetooth support service. Only needed if using the appropriate adapter. If it is not there or it is not used, disable it.
  25. NetBIOS support module. Also a network service, useless to work in the absence of a local network.
  26. Download service windows images (WIA). Used to support the operation of digital cameras and scanners. If such devices are not used, you can disable.

Removing unnecessary components

Having decided which service should be deleted, in the already known to us window "Services" double click choose it. A small window appears on the side with the currently valid parameters of the selected application.

Change the parameters of the selected service

In the drop-down list of the "Startup type" option, select "Disabled", then stop its operation in the current session by pressing the "Stop" and "OK" on-screen buttons. We repeat these steps sequentially for all applications that it was decided to remove from RAM.

Changes are made slightly differently by using the Services tab of the System Configuration window. Having selected the application that is worth removing, uncheck the box to the left of its name, after which the “Apply” on-screen button becomes active.

Removing the label to remove the service

After clicking "Apply", additional information will appear in the window - the date of the shutdown.

It remains only to click "OK" and select in the appeared "System settings" window the option of applying the changes made. "Exit without reboot" will postpone them until the next session, "Reboot" will immediately restart the system with the new parameters.

Restart now or later

Video: Disable Unnecessary Services to Improve Performance

What services are better not to touch

  1. Windows Audio. Service for managing audio devices. When disabled, no executable program will be able to "cast a voice".
  2. Windows Driver Foundation. Responsible for the operation of drivers, a very necessary component.
  3. Media class planner. Also a necessary service for multimedia tasks (such as audio components) to work.
  4. Plug and Play. Performs very useful function correct connection of devices to the computer.
  5. An optimization service that monitors the activity of using programs and preloads them into RAM for accelerated launch if necessary. Significantly increases the speed of work.
  6. Task Scheduler. In Windows 7 it is of great importance, up to the inability to switch keyboard layout when the service is disabled.
  7. Remote Procedure Call (RPC). An essential component of Wihdows that ensures the stable operation of many other services. Disconnection is prohibited systemically.
  8. Desktop Window Manager Session Manager. Responsible for the work of the proprietary Aero interface.
  9. Topics. Also a required service for the Aero interface.
  10. Windows Installer. A component for installing new applications, ensuring their correct installation.

How to add a service

As a rule, the standard set of Windows 7 components is enough for the user. But at the same time, it is possible to add applications based on your needs.

To do this, open the "Control Panel", then in the opened list of parameters we find the active element "Programs and Features".

Choose "Programs and Features"

A window will appear in which we are interested in the "Enabling or disabling Windows components" tab on the left.

On the left, select "Turn Windows features on or off"

By clicking on it with the mouse, we open the Windows Components window.

We are looking for the required service in the list

It remains only to find the service of interest to us in the list and put a check in the box to the left of it. The same can be done at once for all other components that you decided to add. After finishing editing, click "OK".

What if the list is empty or unavailable?

If "Enabling and disabling components" does not turn on or shows an empty list, first of all, you need to find the cause of what is happening, and then eliminate it.

Reason 1: changing a value in the registry

We press the combination Win + R, then in the input area of \u200b\u200bthe Run window, type regedit.

We get access to the registry editor

In the "Registry Editor" window in the tree expanded on the left, go to the tab HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SYSTEM - CurrentControlSet - Control - Windows. Find CSDReleaseType on the right side of the window.

Examining the CSDReleaseType string

In the "Value" column opposite this parameter there should be 0. If this is not the case, then you must change it to 0, click "OK" and reboot.

Reason 2: lack of administrator rights

The changes you make require administrator rights. Therefore, the cause of the problem may be logging into the system with an account that does not have such authority.

In this case, you should re-enter Windows as an administrator or obtain the appropriate rights for your account.

Reason 3: damaged or missing required files

For some reason, the computer may not have the necessary components for our task, stored in the C: \\ Windows \\ Servicing \\ Packages folder. In this case, you will have to restore them using the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7.

You can download the application from www.microsoft.com, but you need to take into account the bitness of the installed system.

  • 32-bit: https://www.microsoft.com/ru-RU/download/details.aspx?id\u003d3132
  • 64-bit: https://www.microsoft.com/ru-RU/download/details.aspx?id\u003d20858

You can check the bit depth of the system installed on your computer using the "Control Panel", in which you select the "System" tab.

In our case, the system type: 32-bit operating system

After the required file (with the msu extension) is selected and downloaded from the developer's site, it should be launched, having previously closed the rest of the applications. Installation usually lasts no more than 15 minutes, after which we close the active window and restart the computer.

To check if we managed to fix the problem automatically, open the list of components again. If nothing has changed, the list is still empty, we start fixing errors manually.

To do this, find on the disk and open the file C: \\ Windows \\ Logs \\ CBS \\ CheckSUR.log in the editor

Examining lines with (f)

The errors found in automatic mode are listed under the line Checking Package Manifests and Catalogs. All of them have in the first column (f), but after the corrected ones there is an additional row with the value (fix). Most likely, our problem is related to the rest who do not have such a line.

Now you need to manually remove the damaged keys. To do this, write down the error address starting with \\ Packages, and then use Win + R and the regedit command to enter the Registry Editor we are already familiar with.

Next, you need to go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \\ SOFTWARE \\ Microsoft \\ Windows \\ CurrentVersion \\ ComponentBasedServicing \\ Packages tab and find the key we recorded, and then delete it. If done correctly, the problem should be fixed.

Specialized applications that disable unnecessary Windows 7 services

Exist special programsto help you remove unneeded services faster. For example, free app Smart.

The application also allows you to choose one of four ready-made configurations:

  1. Safe Tweaks. Most secure, suitable for most users.
  2. Moderate Tweaks. Improves performance by additionally disabling multimedia services.
  3. Advances Tweaks. Leaves only services vital for the system, disables the rest. Recommended for advanced users.
  4. Custom. A similar configuration for professionals. Equipped with a mode manual setting services.

Be sure to create a restore point. To do this, just check the "Create Restore Point Before Applying Changes" item at the bottom of the program window.

Better to be discreet

To start the selected changes, press the “Apply” button and then confirm the selection again.

Offloading RAM from unused applications will give tangible results almost immediately. Required programs will run faster, the processor load will be reduced, and the laptop battery will drain more slowly. It is worth spending a little time on optimization, then to return it with interest due to the acceleration of the computer.

Good afternoon, dear readers and blog subscribers, today we will talk about how to open msc windows snap-ins via the command line, what you might need it for and how it will help in the daily practice of a system administrator. Believe the knowledge gained in this article, in the future you will be able to save a huge amount of time and nerve cells, not to mention the opportunity to show off nerdy knowledge in front of your colleagues, simply if you actively use linux system and you know the basic commands in the console, then you will be interested in these. Always strive to learn, if possible, by the GUI interfaces, and also alternative methods settings, since at windows setup Server, increasingly choose core mode with a minimalist interface.

What is msc snap

And so msc in Windows stands for Microsoft System Console, it is even simpler these are windows or, as they are also called snap-ins, to control certain functions operating system... Earlier, I already introduced you to the method of creating a convenient mmc snap-in, in which we added everything that a system administrator needs for day-to-day administration.

And you probably ask, what does the command line and all that have to do with it, but what does it have to do with it. Let's imagine a situation, you have a domain in your organization Active Directory, ordinary users do not have local administrator rights on their workstations, everything goes and works like a clock, a situation happens that, for example, you need to change any settings for the user, and you need to do it now, so there is no time to look for these settings in group policy. What to do to go under yourself is not an option, since you need to make changes in another user profile, and how to open, for example, the Computer Management or System snap-in.

This is where knowing the name of msc windows snap-ins and the command line will help us. All you need to do is open a command prompt as administrator and enter the desired name for the msc snap-in. Below is a list. As you can see, opening the command line cmd.exe, for example, I entered the value that opens the control panel with system administrator rights.

Hello. Summer has come, or rather it should be, but it is wearing somewhere, the temperature is often 16 degrees during the day, and this is somehow not enough! It feels like summer and past together with childhood. Have you ever had such a feeling?

Guys, the topic of this post is small, it's how to open a window with services in Windows 7. Services are like that ... In short, I don't know what it is, but the most appropriate word that fits the description is the word service. That is, it is a process that constantly serves for something, well, for some task, purpose ..

How do I open services? I know several options, but I'll show you the main ones. The first option, simple, pinch win buttons + R, and in the Run window specify this command:

Just don't do anything here, otherwise you will do business! By the way, there are two tabs at the bottom, Advanced and Standard, so the second tab will enable a more convenient view

This was the first method and it is probably more difficult than the second, because the second method, this is what you need to do, right-click on the taskbar and select the Task Manager item there:

Well, after clicking, a window with services will appear. These are the main ways and I think that they are enough for you, there are some more, but they are gemoric, it seems to me. Although no, look, you can still open Start and write the command down there:

This can already be called the third way. Do you know how to stop the service? For example, there is a DbxSvc service (this is Dropbox), to stop it, you need to click on it twice (in the window with services) and then click the Stop button in the window.

In operating rooms windows systems everything is managed by services. These are invisibly running programs due to which various components and functions function in the OS. New Windows 10 is no exception: as in the “seven” or XP, the work of the system components is run by services. Mostly the same.

Very often, users are interested in which ones can be disabled? Indeed, they all turn off without difficulty and can be restarted if required. But among them there are those that can be stopped if necessary, generally unnecessary, and those that should not be interrupted. When you first start in the top ten, the optimal set of services is already automatically running.

Where to find and how to use

If these components work “in the background”, that is, they do not manifest themselves at first glance, then to enable or disable them, you first need to get to some settings or a panel where you can operate running services... This is logical. You can view a list of what is running at the moment in the task manager on the tab of the same name.

The easiest way to launch the dispatcher is by pressing the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys at the same time. Note that the right column shows which services are running and which are stopped. The groups on whose behalf they act are also visible. But the latter is more about security.

To open the service control panel, you can wander around the Panel for a long time windows management and the settings attached to it. But it's better to do it much easier. Please note that in the Task Manager, at the very bottom, when the "Services" tab is running, you are prompted to open them.

There are two tabs at the bottom: “Advanced” and “ Standard view”. Going to advanced, you can see a description of the service. It is not always verbose and is something like this:

The geolocation service is described in detail, there are also buttons "Stop" and "Restart". But it is much more convenient to select an item of interest by right-clicking and selecting "Properties":

For all services available in the operating system, the same window will open:

Much more information is presented here than in the expanded view. You can start, stop, pause the system component and select the startup type. For example, if you press stop, it will stop, but the next time you turn on or after a restart, the service will work in the same mode. By stopping and choosing the "Disabled" startup type, you "get rid" of this service until you start it yourself.

Why disable or enable

Disabling services in most cases involves several tasks:

  • Freeing up RAM.
  • Disconnection of simply unnecessary system components.
  • Turn off interfering or conflicting third-party programs.

In the case of Windows 10, there are a lot of paranoid people who believe that the operating system is stealing their personal data. you can not only disable certain components in the system parameters, but also stop some of the services. There are at least three of those that can be called spyware:

  • geographic location;
  • diagnostic tracking;
  • "Dmwappushservice".

It is up to you to turn them off or not. You now know how to do this. It all depends on whether you consider yourself to be paranoid, of which there are a lot of them with the release of the new Microsoft OS.

The following is a list of services that can be stopped without harming the overall operation of the operating system. Some of them are needed for specific tasks, so study the description in an expanded form of a list. So, the Windows 10 services that you can safely disable:

  • Firewall
  • Wireless setting
  • Secondary login
  • CD recording service
  • Windows Search (standard file search)
  • Machine Debug Manager
  • Server
  • Image download service
  • Portable Devices Lists
  • Program Compatibility Assistant
  • Error logging

A striking example of uselessness is a CD burning service on a laptop without a floppy drive. Also, note that some of the programs start their own services during installation, which are often unnecessary. Of course, you can return any service to a working state by selecting the "Automatic" startup type and starting the component.

An example of disabling in case of conflict with third-party programs: The firewall is disabled so that the downloaded and installed Firewall works correctly.

After installing Windows, many different services are started at startup. These services are the core of the operating system and the tools necessary for the normal operation of the computer. In addition to kernel services, a large number of additional application services are also launched that are required for their operation.

As it turns out, some services are simply not needed. for example, you do not have a Bluetooth module connected, your computer is not a tablet computer, or you are not using Windows Backup. About a third of all services can be disabled, thereby freeing up system memory, increasing its speed and speeding up the loading of the operating system. After all, there will be nothing superfluous and the system will start working faster.

Where are the services in Windows 7 and how do I manage them?

From the Start menu select Administrative Tools and Services as shown in the screenshot.

Or through the menu "Start" open up "Control Panel", in the upper right corner of the window that opens in the menu "View" set the value "Large icons".

The control panel will change, access to a large number of control tools will open, among them find "Administration".

In the window "Administration" double click on "Services".

Select the service you want to disable or suspend. Right-click on it and select properties, or double-click and the service properties window will open.

In the properties of the service, "Startup type", select the desired action,

After making all the changes for them to take effect, restart your computer.
