This kind of bullshit arises unexpectedly, as always. It worked, Skype worked, and then bam(!) and empty window at startup. You don’t need to enter a login or password, and even if it started automatically without asking for data, the window is still empty.
So there is no need to panic. For those who are worried about their contact list or messages on Skype, I can reassure you that they will not disappear (unless you try very hard).
What is the reason? As it turned out, the stable operation of new versions of Skype (starting from 5.5) depends on Internet Explorer(IE) and Windows Scripting Engine. Authorization in Skype requires access to JavaScript and execution of ActiveX. On some systems with certain IE settings, these tasks do not perform as expected, causing Skype login issues.
What can be done in this situation? I will describe several possible options.
Here's what worked for me personally:
- Sign out of Skype (click right click on Skype in tray > Exit). Make sure that the skype.exe process is completely terminated in Windows Task Manager. If necessary, close the process if it is still active
- Open the folder C:\Program Files\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\ (if you have a 64-bit system)
- Find the Skype folder and the Phone folder in it
- Right click on Skype.exe and select Send to Desktop (create a Skype shortcut on your desktop)
- Now, right-click on the shortcut you just created, go to Properties and select the Shortcut tab
- The Target field will be "C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" (or (x86) if you have 64 bit Windows)
- Click in this field. After the quotes on the right side, put a space and write /legacylogin
- Now the text in the Target field will be “C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe” /legacylogin
- Click OK to save the settings. Launch Skype using this shortcut
The /legacylogin switch should launch Skype through the old login window, which does not require IE components.
As for the global error correction, here are the possible options:
1 - The problem is solved by running an earlier version of Skype - from 5.3. and earlier (logical from the above);
2 - Delete Skype, then START -> RUN (enter the command) regsvr32 jscript.dll and press OK. A window will appear where we click again OK. Then go back to the START menu -> RUN and enter the following command: regsvr32 vbscript.dll and press OK. After that, install Skype.

a) Click START

Recently I encountered an unusual problem for me when launching Skype. The computer is running the Windows XP operating system, which has long since become a thing of the past and is not officially supported. Yes, but a certain percentage of users are still on it! :) When you start Skype, as usual, a window appears for entering your login and password, and then, after entering this data, nothing happens at all. The problem turned out to be not so easy to fix, and after I managed to launch Skype, I decided to write this article where I will share ways to solve it.
The first thing that came to my mind when I encountered a similar problem was some kind of temporary problem with the Internet. I rebooted the router, reconnected to the Internet, the problem was not solved. Next, I tried the right solution, which saves me from most problems (and this applies to all programs) - reinstalling Skype. After reinstallation, to my surprise, Skype did not work.
And no matter what I tried, I had to try different options solutions from the Internet and none of them helped. After long dances with a tambourine, I finally conquered the problem.
The whole point is that Skype has once again been updated and for some reason this update has completely blocked the ability to normally log in to your Skype account. While I was looking possible reasons appearance of such a problem and ways to solve it, I realized that, as a rule, this happens due to incorrect settings of the standard browser in Windows - Internet Explorer or due to the Internet connection.
The only thing that helped me in this situation was installing one of the old Skype versions A. However, reinstalling Skype to an older version is a last resort and it is better to try other options first.

Method number 1. Easy reinstallation of Skype

In the list that appears, find the “Skype” folder and delete it. If there is important correspondence in the program, rename the folder. Now install the messenger again and launch it.
If the white screen does not appear again, close the program and move the “main.db” file from the folder that you renamed to the newly created Skype directory. By taking this step, you will get your correspondence back. If you don't need it, delete the new folder and rename the old one as it was before.
Before taking drastic measures to fix the problem, check whether you have updated to the latest Skype versions, Internet Explorer and Windows, maybe this is the problem.
