New Yandex.Browser - this is what the future may look like. New interface of Yandex.Browser "Calypso"

It would seem that what else can be invented in browsers? However, the company took a risk and recently presented an alpha version of its browser of the same name with a fundamentally new look at the interface.

Although it would be more accurate to say that there should not be an interface at all. According to the creators, everything modern browsers are too bulky and “hang” over the content, and we can quite agree with this opinion. “The browser is a window into the world, the boundaries of which we decided not just to expand, but to erase,” says browser designer Gennady Lokhtin on the Habrahabr website. A Yandex representative gives an example that uses transparency to some extent. He also mentions the discreet Quicktime video player interface and text editor iA Writer for Mac. Are these examples random? Or is this a hint at the similarity of the browser concept with Apple's ideology?

So, open “Yandex.Browser”. No gray panels, house icons or arrows, it feels like the site is open in full screen mode. But how to use it? At first it’s unusual, but as you work, all the necessary tools appear exactly where it’s convenient. Instead of classic panels there is a thin and almost transparent strip. If you scroll up the page, the contents of the page under the panel become blurred, as if through frosted glass. The full advantage of the new “invisible” browser can now be appreciated on the company’s websites, for example, Yandex.Maps.

When you open the program, in addition to the absence of panels with buttons, an unusually beautiful animated background with passing clouds, trees swaying in the wind, rain, etc. catches your eye. We are offered 12 topics to choose from. I hasten to reassure those who are annoyed by the animation - it can be turned off, either completely or when the laptop battery runs out. Against the backdrop of picturesque pictures (which, by the way, were filmed specifically for the new browser in Russia) is a traditional scoreboard for the Yandex browser. Bookmarks made in a minimalist style lead to the most frequently visited sites. The desired icon is easy to find with your eyes, and for me they outperform the small screenshots used in other browsers.

Minimalism in design is good, but you can’t escape the tabs in the browser, and here the creators of the browser concept decided to be original and moved them to the bottom. Enough controversial decision- not everyone will like to run the mouse up and down for various manipulations. Each tab has its own color, consisting of the main shades of the open site.

Tabs leading to the same site are grouped into one when you go to another resource, and the number of pages in the group is indicated by white dots. We click on the group and see all the tabs (in our case there are three). Viewed on at the moment the page is marked with a white stripe above the tab. At the same time, for some reason it is impossible to move tabs and change places. But remember that this is only a browser concept.

But Yandex's smart search promises to become even smarter. The intelligent omnibox is already a source of special pride for the company. A short weather forecast immediately after writing the word “weather”, or automatic change of the keyboard layout in the request window - I personally have not seen such functions in competing browsers. So, now the Yandex browser will respond to search queries even richer, the developers promise. However, I admit that I did not get such a variety of answers as in the presentation - no pictures, no text fragments there wasn't. The only difference from the old version in this regard is the site logo, if the request is similar to the beginning of writing a specific address.

Perhaps in the next version we will be more impressed with smart search. After all, Russian company far-reaching plans for integration with a search service - the developers promise that by highlighting a word on a website page you will be able to see extended information on the relevant topic.

It will be like this context menu by clicking the right mouse button

Search is the most important element of the browser, say Yandex ideologists, and it should be as simple as possible. Less manipulation - more information. By clicking on the name of the site on the top transparent panel, we go to the so-called “wrong side”, there we get a set of possible actions - printing, “sharing” the page on a social network, adding to the board, searching on the page, as well as several links to sites with similar topics .

In general, the Yandex browser has retained its features as a single integrated ecosystem. Mail, music, translator, synchronization of bookmarks, passwords between various devices, storage and backup data on Yandex disk make the program very convenient (of course, if you use all these services). The browser easily picks up user information (bookmarks, cookies) from other browsers, so the transition, say, from Firefox to Yandex, will be painless.

Let's see if the creators of the new product will be able to convince users to access the Internet through Yandex.Browser. Indeed, at the moment, according to statistics from the Ranking website, this relatively young web navigator in Ukraine does not have many fans. In November 2014, only 6.73% of visitors used it World Wide Web, which ranks fifth after Chrome with its 27.7%, Internet Explorer, Opera and Firefox (24.13%, 19.14% and 12.94%, respectively).

Yandex browser is one of the most popular and fast browsers today, it is almost as good as Google Chrome. Accordingly, due to its great popularity, developers are actively involved in covering up holes and introducing new technologies, including changing the design of the browser.

For many users, the updated mode is not suitable, for various reasons - from unpreparedness for changes to increased system glitches. In the updated mode, in addition to the redesign, live wallpapers appeared, which, in turn, load the system more. Plus, due to the fact that the design is new, various glitches may occur. Still, the main reason why users want to return the old Yandex is the lack of official Windows support XP, because the system has not yet completely become a thing of the past.

There are two main ways to return the old design:

  1. Use the standard design return function provided by the developers;
  2. Use a distribution kit of older versions.

For users who simply want to return Yandex to its old form, but the browser itself works without glitches, the first method is suitable. Users who have difficulty using the new version of the browser will be able to use the second method.

How to return the old Yandex interface?

The replacement of the interface is envisaged by the developers, most likely only at first, so that there is no panic around the design change, because people are designed in such a way that they do not perceive changes well. Since such a function exists, using it will not be difficult, you need:

  • Open the Yandex browser;

  • Go to your browser settings by clicking on the three icon horizontal stripes located in the upper right corner and selecting the appropriate option;
  • Next you will see the “Appearance settings” column;
  • Here you should click on the large “Turn off new interface” button.

Thanks to these simple steps, you can return your usual and favorite appearance browser without using any crutches or additional programs.

How to return the old version of Yandex?

This section is intended to restore not only the previous browser interface, but also install an older version of it along with it.

The need for this action arises mainly among Windows XP users who may experience difficulties using the updated browser.

But still others operating systems may be subject to lags or glitches that were not present in the previous version.

There are at least 3 options to achieve your goal: get a portable browser distribution with the version you need, ask technical support to provide previous versions of the browser, or roll back the system.

Using a restore point

It is best to return the old Yandex browser using a system rollback, although the method implies that before that you had a fully working and successful version of the browser installed and you created a restore point at that time.

The method is quite simple and, most likely, you won’t even have to roll back the entire system to the saved point. You should simply:

  • Click on the Yandex browser shortcut right click and select the “Properties” option;
  • Next, click on the “File Location” button;
  • Exit the folder by going to the root section of the directory;
  • Now right-click on the folder in which the browser files are located and select “Restore previous version”;

  • Next, select the point you need and follow the instructions.

If this method does not help you, you will have to clear the user data (cookies, cache, etc.) of the browser and try again or return the entire system to the restore point.

Installing an old distribution

Officially, Yandex does not provide access to outdated versions program, but there are ways to still get the program.

Regular file online installation will not suit you in any case, as it will load current version from the site. Only the portable stable version will help you here.

There are two ways to find a suitable file: simply search on the Internet or ask technical support. If you choose the option with independent search, you may encounter a situation where the distribution is infected with a virus or there are extensions that display advertisements. In this case, it is better to search on trusted file hosting services, reducing the risk of system infection.

There is also the opportunity to request a distribution kit from browser technical support, explaining the situation with lags in your system of the new version. Usually support responds to such requests and provides a download link.

Most likely, before installation, you will have to delete information about the operation of the new browser so that errors do not occur during installation and use. Often, if this is not done, then the browser does not allow you to log into your browser account and retrieve information from the cloud (passwords, user settings, extensions).

Also, probably, immediately after installing the version you need, it will simply be updated to the latest one and you will have to start the installation again from the beginning. In this case, you should find a file called updater.exe in the browser folder (sometimes in the user information folder) and simply delete it. To remove it, you may have to first end the process from the Task Manager; it will have the same name.

Thanks to the methods described in the article, you can both simply return the usual and convenient appearance of the browser, and restore its functionality after an update.

Yandex.Browser started out as actually a clone of Google Chrome. The difference in browsers was minimal, but over time the company turned its product into an independent browser, which is increasingly chosen by users as the main one.

The first thing any program seeks to change is the interface. This is especially important for a browser, since a lot depends on a well-thought-out and implemented interface. And if it turns out to be unsuccessful, then users will simply switch to another browser. That is why Yandex.Browser, having decided to update its interface to a modern one, decided to leave all its users happy: anyone who does not like the modern interface can disable it in the settings. In the same way, anyone who has not yet switched from the old interface to the new one can do this using the Yandex Browser settings. We will tell you how to do this in this article.

If you are still sitting on the old browser interface and would like to keep up with the times, then in a few clicks you can update the appearance of the browser. To do this, click on the button " Menu" and select " Settings»:

Find the block " Appearance Settings" and click on the button " Enable new interface»:

Disabling the new Yandex Browser interface

The browser will restart with the classic interface.

This is how easy it is to switch between styles in the browser. We hope you found this information useful.

If you decide to try the Yandex browser, but have little idea how to configure this browser, then it is better to refer to the instructions. By clicking on the wrong option, you risk disrupting the entire operation of the application. Of course, all browsers follow approximately the same principle, so that a new user can intuitively understand where to click and what to do, however, some functions and settings are hidden in completely different places in the Yandex browser. Carefully read the instructions and explanations in this article to configure your browser yourself according to your wishes and preferences.

How to configure the basic functions of Yandex browser

When you open your browser for the first time, you will see something similar to the screenshot below: you will have several tabs in the middle of the screen, a beautiful splash screen and a toolbar at the top.

  • To get started with the most basic settings, look for a small icon with three bars in the upper right corner of the program.
  • Click on it once with the left mouse button.
  • Here you will see the main menu of the Yandex browser. There are many options available to you: viewing your history, downloads, editing add-ons, viewing bookmarks. You need the “Settings” line.

Once inside this option, you can start debugging the browser.

  • The very first line will be “Synchronization”. This special opportunity browser, which will allow you not to lose all settings and bookmarks if something happens to the computer system.
  • Click on the “Enable Synchronization” button to use it.

  • You just need to log in to your Yandex mail to synchronize bookmarks and settings.
  • If you don’t have an email account yet, click on the “Create an account” button.

After setting up synchronization, return to the previous settings menu. There will be in front of you big block with the name “Appearance Settings” and a smaller block “Show Bookmarks Bar”.

Read each line carefully to understand what it says. Here are the most important lines in this menu:

  • “Disable background animation when the battery is low” – this item is not only for design purposes. By checking this box, you will save precious minutes of your battery power.
  • “Show in new Zen tab” is up to each user. When you open new tab, it displays news and sites that are based on your interests. You can check the box here to see the Zen feed.
  • “Allow viewing online videos in a separate window” - some sites request this option, so check the box.

All other points are purely aesthetic in nature. The bottom block with the bookmarks bar is needed to display your saved sites. If you want to see the bar with them always, then set the value to “Always”. “Only on the scoreboard” will bookmark the welcome window in the Yandex Scoreboard.

Very little left:

  • Select yourself in the “Search” line search engine which you are using.
  • What do you want to see when you open the browser: latest tabs or a board with websites? Check the box next to the option you want.
  • You also choose what you want to do when closing a tab.
  • The last two points are the appearance of the tabs. Typically, users set the tabs to be displayed at the top. And the last point allows tabs to shrink if you have too many open.

At the very bottom of the settings you can see the “Show additional settings" If you are an inexperienced user and are afraid to add too much, then it is better not to try to configure additional parameters. They are set by default to quite convenient positions.

How to configure add-ons in Yandex browser

Add-ons can give you many new functions: antiviruses, hiding ads, pop-up news and much more.

  • In your browser settings, go to the “Add-ons” tab.

  • You'll see some default add-ons that you can enable right on this page. Read the descriptions of these tools to find out what they do and what they serve. If you want to turn on one of them, just click on the button where it says “Off” or move the cursor over it.

  • To install your add-on, go to the very bottom of the page and click on the “Catalog of extensions for Yandex.Browser” field.

  • You will see a huge list of official add-ons and extensions. To install one of them, just click on it and click “Add to Yandex.Browser”.

How to set up bookmarks in Yandex browser

  • You can add your favorite sites to special bookmarks and have access to them at any time. To do this, you need to go to the site you want to save. Next, pay attention to the small gray star in the upper right corner of the site.

Click on it and you will see a small menu.

  • Here you can set a name for your bookmark.
  • Select the save path “Bookmarks Bar”.
  • Now click “Done”.

The star will change color to yellow.

To see your bookmarks, go back to the settings menu and hover over the “Bookmarks” line.

You will see a list of these same bookmarks that you made earlier and a small menu.
Click on the line “Show bookmarks bar”.

Ready. You see all the sites that you have saved.
To disable the panel, repeat the algorithm again.

How to set up a scoreboard in Yandex browser

The welcome board is very convenient to use and has beautiful view. You can change or delete cells with sites in the right corner of the window.

  • By clicking on the lock, you fix the tab and prevent it from changing. If the lock icon is open, the tab will change content soon.
  • The gear allows you to change the name of the cell and the site in it.
  • The cross deletes the site.

  • Click on the “Add” button to add a new site.

At yesterday's presentation, Yandex presented the new Yandex.Browser. It's very different from any browser you're already used to. We invite you to take a look with us at what the future of the Internet looks like according to Yandex.

Perhaps it’s worth immediately listing all the most noticeable and interesting innovations:

  1. The tabs have moved down.
  2. Each tab is designed in a different color and sites will have the opportunity to change this color.
  3. The browser has no borders.

The browser looks unusual. All because of missing frames. You get the feeling that you are still on the desktop, you just can now open web pages on it. On background beautiful animated landscapes that can be changed at your own discretion.

On the main page there are icons of your favorite sites, which, of course, can be changed.

The browser shows its beauty after enlarging it to full screen. The almost complete absence of elements affects it. Of course, I immediately decided to open a website and ran into a problem: the browser stubbornly refused to show the address bar and sent me to the Yandex search field. Only then did I notice the omnibox, which is located on the main screen.

At the presentation, the company said that all sites will have the opportunity to install their own color scheme, which will be applied to the site's tabs and panels, allowing the latter to blend into the browser. Despite the fact that the API has not yet been given to anyone, the tabs are already painted in the site’s corporate colors. Among the interesting features: Yandex.Browser can also show notifications. This function is currently available in Yandex.Mail and VKontakte.

The two buttons located in the upper right corner are responsible for the technical support and settings section. In the settings you can do approximately the same thing as in other browsers, so there is no point in dwelling on them for a long time.

When first launched, Yandex asked for access to Safari settings and passwords. I decided to refuse, but this did not stop the browser from learning about the extensions I was using and offering them to me for installation. Although I haven't figured it out yet, maybe these are just the most popular extensions in the store.

The same applies to tabs: Yandex.Browser picked them up from Safari and successfully transferred them to itself.

Now the browser is in alpha version and everyone can try it. I didn’t find any obvious advantages: the concept of a frameless browser is interesting, but there’s no benefit from it. At least for now. There are several disadvantages: absent address bar and browser lag. Small lags are clearly visible after switching from Safari. Windows users and Mac can try Yandex Browser right now.

What do you think of Yandex's vision of the future?
