Samsung Review Galaxy Core Prime

Today we have a review of a novelty from Samsung The Galaxy Core Prime smartphone is a device with average specifications and an affordable price, while, with some remarks, however, given its affordability, the device can be safely considered a contender for a purchase.

Design:

The device is presented in a standard monoblock form factor. Along the edges it is surrounded by a silver edging made of plastic. The display received a 4.5-inch diagonal. Under the screen are 2 touch keys and one mechanical button. Above the display is a 2-megapixel webcam. The physical dimensions of the smartphone are 131.3x68.4x8.8 mm, it fits comfortably in the hand and is quite pleasant to use, besides, thanks to its not very large dimensions, it does not strive to slip out of hands. The set of keys is quite typical. On the right is the on / off button, on the left is the volume rocker, at the bottom is the micro-USB port, at the top is the 3.5 mm headset slot.

Hardware filling:

TFT display - 4.5 inches, 16 million colors, supports up to 5 touches, resolution 480X800 pixels. The screen is quite bright, but it loses some contrast when tilted.

The Galaxy Core Prime has a Qualcomm (MSM-8916) 4-core processor with a frequency of 1.2 GHz, as well as an Adreno 306 coprocessor. 1 GB RAM (ARM), 8 GB internal storage, of which about 5 , there is a slot for memory cards up to 64 GB. The smartphone operates on the Android OS 4.4.4 (KitKat) platform, updates to android version 5.0 Lollipop is probably not worth the wait.

Camera:

The main camera module has a 5-megapixel resolution and supports LED flash with autofocus. The maximum resolution is 2592X1944 pixels. Frontal matrix - 2 Mps. The maximum video resolution is 1280X720. There is an accelerometer and a proximity sensor.

The smartphone received a 2000 mAh battery. Under normal load, Galaxy Core Prime will live from morning to evening. Continuous video viewing (720P) at 60% brightness - 6 hours 11 minutes. Internet surfing at 50% brightness - 12 hours 53 minutes. After 2 hours of playing Angry Birds with 70% brightness - 61% percent remains from 100% charge.

Findings:

Galaxy Core Prime turned out to be absolutely typical, and yet, this smartphone has much more pluses than minuses. Of course, I would like to see some innovations in terms of design, however, the classics have not yet lost their relevance. We strongly recommend the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime for purchase, especially for those whose budget is limited, but really want to get a really reliable smartphone.

Samsung does not want to leave the fight for the budget smartphone segment, and following last year's Galaxy Core 2, it releases an updated and improved Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. What has improved? First, the camera. A good camera now shoots HD video and takes good pictures for 5 megapixels. Second, performance. The smartphone runs on a more “fresh” chipset, with which the system interface works quite cheerfully, the filling even allows you to play most games. Thirdly, Samsung has increased the amount of memory, both built-in and operational, to 8 and 1 GB, respectively. For the most part, there are no other changes. Among the advantages, we also note support for two SIM-cards and a very good time battery life for a capacity of 2000 mAh - up to 7 hours of watching HD video at maximum brightness!

However, the main drawback of the model remained the same - the display. This is not an IPS screen, it has a low resolution, no protective glass and no oleophobic coating. The smartphone does not even have a brightness sensor! The only advantage of the display is good viewing angles.

We can only recommend it for purchase if a clear display is not that important to you. By and large, a smartphone is worth its money, but for 9,000 rubles on the market you can find models with better formal characteristics. True, it turns out that they have worse camera and battery or they are less reliable to use. And the set of functions and features is poorer (from interface features to settings in the browser and multimedia).

Dimensions - 4.2

The Samsung Galaxy Core Prime smartphone can be called compact among state employees with the same diagonal. The weight of the phone is 130 g, dimensions are 131 × 68 × 9.1 mm, which is comparable with LG L70, which turned out to be 5 grams lighter and slightly shorter (127 mm), or with Nokia Lumia 630, its case is thicker, heavier by several grams and only a couple of millimeters shorter and at same. If you're into one-handed use, then the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime might be right for you, with rounded corners and a slightly sloping lid that fits comfortably in your hand.

As you can see from the photo, there is a “classic” silver frame along the ends of the smartphone, thanks to which the side frames around the display look a bit at the same, since the frame slightly envelops the front panel and slightly rises above it.

Externally, the smartphone looks more like the Galaxy Grand Prime than the previous Galaxy Core. In our opinion, it looks nice, but almost the same as many other smartphones from the company. The back of the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime we bought is made of a semi-gloss, impractical material that picks up scratches and even small chips easily. As for the build quality in general, Samsung did not disappoint here - the smartphone is perfectly assembled, the case does not creak when pressed, and the lid is easily removed and closes tightly.

The Samsung Galaxy Core Prime smartphone is available in black, white and grey.

Screen - 3.3

The Samsung Galaxy Core Prime uses a 4.5-inch non-IPS display with no oleophobic coating or protective glass. As is the case with Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime, on the display, seems to have decided to save money. The screen resolution is 800 × 480 pixels, the pixel density is low - 207 per inch, this is especially noticeable after working with clear displays. While working with the screen, we even sometimes wanted to wipe the display: it seemed that small dirt had stuck to it, but no, these are just individual pixels that catch the eye. The screen has average viewing angles and good brightness for a state employee - up to 385 cd / m 2. The minimum brightness, in our opinion, is too high for reading in the dark - about 24 cd/m2. In the sun, the display did not behave in the best way- it is possible to read or view something, but it is not easy for the eyes.

The display collects fingerprints very easily, and it is better to wipe them off by special means. Glove mode is not supported. Unexpectedly, the savings even touched the light sensor - you can not look for the auto-brightness function on your phone. As a result, the display does not leave positive emotions, and this is at a time when IPS matrices and even protective glasses are no longer such a rarity for budget models such as Asus Zenfone 4 or Explay Tornado.

Camera

The smartphone has a 5 MP main camera and a 2 MP front camera. The main camera has a flash, autofocus, the standard set lacks only the HDR mode. The maximum resolution for photos is 2592×1944 pixels, and for video recording it is 1280×720 pixels. The recording speed is 30 frames per second, the sound is recorded in mono mode. There is no tracking autofocus, so you have to press the display to focus. In the arsenal of the camera you can find many modes - from shooting panoramas to retouching and night shots, as well as many effects - sepia, negative and others.

As for the shooting quality, it is good for a "typical" resolution today - in good lighting, as tests have shown, the frames are clear and saturated, autofocus usually works clearly. However, as it usually happens, the quality decreases with the deterioration of illumination - for example, in the room the camera began to noticeably "noise", and on some of our frames it "give" green. You can verify this by looking at the photos below. Generally speaking, the camera is good for its price segment and resolution, and may be suitable for passing shots.

Photos from the camera Samsung Galaxy Core Prime - 1.9

Working with text - 3.0

The Samsung Galaxy Core Prime comes pre-installed with a comfortable branded keyboard, with the ability to switch to a 3 × 4 format, like on the old ones. push-button phones. Simple text input, in our opinion, is convenient. Gesture input (Swype) works well, and to switch between languages, you need to lightly press the spacebar and drag to the side. There is no markup for additional characters, only speed dial numbers from the top row of keys. The keyboard is comfortable for typing, but sometimes there may be a lack of markup for additional characters.

Internet - 5.0

Samsung Galaxy Core Prime uses browser Google Chrome with tab synchronization with the desktop version and the standard "Browser". The first one has a one-time auto-fitting of text to fit the screen using double tap, search on the page and a number of other typical features. The Browser has text autofit, reading mode, and quick control features - when you swipe from the edge of the display, the control panel icons are revealed. In general, in our opinion, the browser is quite functional.

Interfaces

In terms of interfaces, the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime smartphone did not surprise us with anything. It supports a standard set of interfaces, like any tablet or smartphone: Wi-Fi (b/g/n), with the ability to distribute the Internet to other devices, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP profile support, A-GPS with GLONASS and Beidou support. You can’t count on 4G in a budget model, although an LTE version of the smartphone exists, but not for the Russian market.

The smartphone has a headset jack on the top edge and a Micro-USB 2.0 connector at the bottom without MHL support (which is not surprising for a state employee) and USB OTG. The phone has two slots for Micro SIM-cards and one radio module, when using one SIM-card and simultaneously calling to the second one, you will be unavailable.

Multimedia - 2.2

We ran various audio and video files on the smartphone to check which formats the built-in players support and backed up the results with the AnTuTu Video Tester app. The multimedia capabilities of the smartphone turned out to be average, it played videos up to Full HD resolutions, however, it often did not play MKV, MPG videos and even did not find AVI files. In terms of audio, in our tests, the smartphone did not detect uncompressed FLAC audio, but there were no problems with WAV. The video player is simple but functional - it easily plays Full HD video, and also allows you to adjust the brightness and show external subtitles.

Battery - 2.9

It would seem that the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime display is quite bright when compared with state employees, and the typical capacity is 2000 mAh, a sort of average. However, in terms of HD video viewing time at maximum brightness, the smartphone overtakes most of the tested devices - almost 7 hours, longer than the iPhone 6 itself in our tests! But in the audio player mode, he slightly "failed" and was discharged in 43 hours - the average result. For example, Explay Tornado lasted 10 hours more in the same scenario.

because of charger with an output current of just 0.7 A, the Galaxy Core Prime takes a long time to charge, almost three hours. By the way, the charger is “non-separable” with a thin cable, although recently charging has been steadily released along with a USB cable that can be pulled out of the charger - it seems to be convenient, but thin cable A "single" charge takes up less volume.

Performance - 1.7

The device uses a fresh 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) chipset - four cores, frequency up to 1.2 GHz, graphics platform - Adreno 306, RAM - standard 1 GB. In daily work, the smartphone almost does not slow down, only slightly when scrolling through desktops. It is unlikely to be suitable as a gaming platform, but most games run, and heavy ones “go” quite normally at low settings. For example, Minion Rush, like on smartphones based on MediaTek MT6582M, took a long time to load in our tests, but practically did not slow down. In terms of benchmarks, the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime smartphone, on average, received results only slightly above many quad-core state employees on MediaTek (for example,

Memory - 3.5

Volume internal memory Samsung Galaxy Core Prime phone is 8 GB, of which about 5.47 GB is available to the user. There is a slot for a memory card, cards up to 64 GB are supported. There is a possibility of hot replacement of a card.

Peculiarities

Smartphone works under Android control 4.4.4, with a proprietary, lightweight TouchWiz interface that is generally fast. The smartphone has not so many features - support for two micro SIM cards, which no longer surprises anyone, there are flash notifications for people with hearing problems. They decided not to fill the phone’s memory with unnecessary software: in addition to standard things and Google services, there is only a radio (works with headphones), a store Google Apps Apps and file manager- nothing more, which is good for a small amount of internal memory.

Competitors

For winter 2015 years of samsung Galaxy Core Prime costs 8990 rubles. A competitor can be any smartphone with a similar diagonal, lower price and with the same characteristics, if not better. For example, let's compare it with Lenovo A328 and LG L Fino.

Lenovo A328 is very similar to Samsung in terms of specifications. Similar in power, but older stuffing, the Lenovo smartphone display turned out to be even a little worse. As for the battery, with the same capacity, it gives different results in different usage scenarios: when watching a video, Samsung turned out to be the leader, when listening to music, the A328 pulled ahead. To top it off, we can say that the Lenovo A328 has only 4 GB of internal memory, but today it costs almost 2,000 rubles less.

LG L Fino is 200 rubles more expensive and offers an 8 MP camera, an IPS matrix and protective glass Gorilla Glass, similar battery life and original control buttons on the back of the device. But Samsung has more internal memory (8 GB versus 4 GB), a better front camera and a fresher and more powerful chipset.

In December 2014, the Korean giant Samsung introduced the public to a new budget model from the Galaxy line. The smartphone was named Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. The presentation took place in India, the starting cost of the phone was about 150 US dollars. At the beginning of this year, residents of other countries also received the opportunity to purchase a novelty in their homeland.

The Samsung Galaxy Core Prime is an interesting device, characterized by a combination of relatively powerful hardware and a large 4.5-inch screen with a mediocre resolution.

The design of the model is quite standard for the "galactic" line Korean corporation: rounded edges, flowing lines, combination of glossy plastic panels and silver rim. The smartphone is presented in gray, white and silver body colors.

To understand what capabilities the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime G360 has, to highlight its advantages and disadvantages - this short review will help.

Specifications Samsung Galaxy Core Prime G360

The smartphone is built on the Spreadtrum SC8830 platform based on the architecture ARM Cortex-A7. 4 processor cores operate at a frequency of 1.2 GHz, providing quite good performance. Of course, this is not Snapdragon, but there is no reason to scold the phone for poor performance.

The duty to draw 3D graphics in games is entrusted to the dual-core GPU Mali-400 MP2, which has recently become the standard for the lower price niche. It has pretty decent performance: Asphalt, GTA SA or WoT Blitz - these relatively heavy toys will run without problems.

Operational samsung memory Galaxy Core Prime G360 is enough: 1 GB RAM not only mid-budget devices are equipped, but also smartphones that are closer to the upper price category.

Users can store content in the built-in memory, which is about 8 GB (only 5 is available to the user, since part is reserved for applications and system files), or expand it with memory cards. A nice point is the support for the SDXC protocol, which allows you to install large flash drives. The maximum volume currently available on the market is 64 GB (there are also 128, but it is still difficult to find them).

Autonomous Samsung job The Galaxy Core Prime G360 provides a removable lithium-ion battery, with a capacity of 2000 mAh. One charge should last for a couple of days of moderate use. When watching videos or Internet sites, the phone can last up to 10 hours without recharging, but in games the situation is more sad: 4-6 hours, depending on the level of graphics complexity.

Camera The device has a sensor with a resolution of 5 MP, and is equipped with a diode flash-flashlight. The shooting quality cannot be called excellent, although the images obtained outdoors are quite juicy and detailed. Indoors, the situation is a little worse: noise and blurry contours of objects appear. For video communication on the front panel, next to the speaker and sensors, there is an auxiliary 2 MP camera. As for a front camera, it shoots pretty well: selfie lovers will appreciate it. Below are a few pictures. made by Samsung Galaxy Core Prime:

The smartphone is equipped with a PLS-matrix, the diagonal of which is 4.5 inches, and the resolution is 800x480 pixels. It is precisely because of this feature that the device cannot be attributed to the middle class: most modern smartphones of this level have HD displays. The picture is quite bright, viewing angles are acceptable, but the “graininess” of the image darkens the overall impression a little. However, the use of such a screen has a positive effect on the active battery life.

The smartphone has a fairly loud sound. The main speaker is located on back cover devices next to the camera. The headset jack is located directly above it, at the top end of the case. The sound in the headphones is clear enough to comfortably listen to music of various genres.

The operating system of the device is Android 4.4, which is likely to receive updates to more recent versions. As user interface used branded shell Samsung.

Pros and cons of Samsung Core Prime

The smartphone has a number of advantages:

  • large and bright screen;
  • relatively powerful processor;
  • support for SDXC memory cards;
  • 1 GB of RAM.

But, nothing is perfect in this world. The Galaxy Core Prime G360 was no exception.

The review identified the following shortcomings:

Conclusion

Based on the results of the review, we can conclude that the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime G360 has become a prominent representative of the niche of budget smartphones: a powerful filling, a fresh version of the OS, enough good sound- it's all about him. The only thing that spoils the impression a little is the display, whose resolution (800x480) turned out to be too small for such a diagonal (4.5”). However, not all users believe that “not “Retina” is not a display”, and for many, even such a screen is enough for everyday needs. A non-picky user will not notice this drawback.

The modern smartphone user is a spoiled creature, accustomed to the fact that there are always devices for sale for every taste and with any technical characteristics. Therefore, manufacturers go out of their way to please him. One needs a large phablet, another needs a compact phone for everyday wear, a third needs a powerful gaming model, and so on.

with a 4.5-inch screen - a solution for those who find a 5-inch display too big, and a 4-inch one too small. Let's see what else is interesting.

Appearance

Looks Samsung GALAXY Core Prime Duos strictly and elegantly. The case is plastic, the build quality is good, a nice metallized frame stretches along the perimeter of the case. A special variety of colors is not expected, there is a white model, dark gray and silver.

The thickness of the case is 8.8 mm, which is an average figure, so the device cannot be called thin or thick. It fits well in the palm of your hand and is easy to operate with one hand.

The location of the buttons is standard, the on / off and lock button is on one side, the volume control button is on the other, they fit well under your fingers, regardless of which hand you will hold the device with. And it's good that the developers did not experiment with placing controls in unexpected places.

Screen

The resolution of the 4.5-inch screen is 480 x 800 pixels, which is more than enough, especially when you consider that Samsung displays are considered the best in the world today, pleasing the eye with a bright, clear and high-contrast picture.

"Filling"

The smartphone is powered by a quad-core processor clock frequency 1.2 GHz, supported by 1 GB of RAM. This is a good combination for devices of this level, everything is in order with performance. The smoothness of work and the absence of all kinds of braking, lags, freezes and other troubles will definitely please you. Samsung GALAXY Core Prime Duos easily copes with any tasks, everything quickly opens and closes, starts up, is located, etc. When tested in AnTuTu, he scored 7,470 points. What can be said about that? There are smartphones in the same category that scored higher, and there are those that received worse scores. So the performance of the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime Duos is at least average.

The amount of permanent memory of this device is 8 GB, in addition, you can use microSD card and increase the memory by another 64 GB. With such a card, you can carry with you a good selection of films, a solid collection of music, and there will be a really huge amount of photos.

The capacity of the removable battery is 2,000 mAh. The developers claim that with such a battery you can:

Talk - up to 10 hours;
watch video - 9 hours;
listen to music - up to 40 hours;
work on the Internet from 9 to 11 hours (depending on whether you will access the network via 3G or via Wi-Fi).

With an average intensity of work, the battery charge will definitely last for a day, or even more. In addition, Samsung's proprietary power saving mode is implemented here, in which unnecessary functions are disabled, and the picture on the screen becomes black and white. If you are waiting for an important call, this mode will help you seriously stretch the charge remaining in the battery.

cameras

As for the main camera of Samsung GALAXY Core Prime Duos, it can be called standard: 5-megapixel matrix, LED flash. This is a good option for the amateur photographer who wants to be able to remember what he sees around him.

But if you expected to see a front camera with a 0.3-megapixel matrix in this device, then we will please you: there is a more powerful 2-megapixel camera here. This, of course, is not ideal, but it is very pleasant to use it. It is suitable for video communication, and for taking good selfies.

Communication options

Wi-Fi for connecting to the Internet, Bluetooth for synchronizing with other devices, GPS for using various navigation applications - all this is in the smartphone.

Also in Samsung GALAXY Core Prime Duos - two slots for SIM-cards of the microSIM standard. This solution is used quite often today, because thanks to it you can use two numbers from one device. Why is this needed? The traditional option is a convenient separation of contacts, for example, you allocate one number only for personal contacts, the other - exclusively for work, and on weekends the second number can be turned off so that your bosses and colleagues do not disturb and interrupt your legal rest.

An interesting “trick” is the “Search for smartphone” function. If suddenly your device was stolen from you, if you lost it, and so on, using this function, you can track its location online, initiate a call from it to find out where it is, block its work, and even delete it from a distance. his personal data and confidential information.
