Samsung Galaxy TabPRO S: a powerful tablet with Windows 10

Samsung Galaxy TabPro S - top-level model with operating system Windows system 10 and outstanding performance. Works inside this 2-in-1 tablet Intel Core m3-6Y30 s clock frequency 2.2 GHz.

With it, the Samsung device, although it does not reach the performance levels of its competitor Surface, still works very quickly. With several in parallel running applications it copes without any noticeable problems.

High performance is also ensured by 4 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD drive.

Thinner than Surface

The Galaxy TabPro S is built to a high standard and features an aluminum frame that fits comfortably in your hands. The case thickness (6.3 mm) is noticeably thinner than Surface Pro 4 (8.45 mm). The keyboard, at the same time as its main function, serves as a cover (made of artificial leather) and is connected to the tablet using magnetic fasteners. During the test, the keyboard responded flawlessly to our touches.

But here's what's annoying: before folding the device, you need to detach the keyboard - in this matter I would like a lot more flexibility. We also note that it is impossible to place the tablet on a support without a connected keyboard. Without it, the device has to be held in your hands, but with a mass of only 690 grams, this should not become big problem.

Advantages of the OLED display

Samsung Galaxy TabPro S: Super-AMOLED display delivers vibrant colors

The Galaxy TabPro S's strengths include long time battery life and an OLED display, which was installed on a laptop in this form for the first time. The 12.1-inch display has a resolution of 2160x1440 pixels. The combination of these parameters gives a pixel density of 216 ppi. The colors are rich and do not fade when viewed from the side from any angle.

The measurement results we obtained during the test showed some weakening of the color depth at the corners of the display, but this is not noticeable to the naked eye. The device will adjust the screen brightness independently if you leave the corresponding option active.

With its help, the display automatically switches to the desired brightness level and thereby saves precious energy. There is one feature: the absence of the “pixel burnout” effect typical of OLED panels. TabPRO S uses new technology, which periodically “redistributes” the pixels and thus prevents them from burning out - a great feature!

Long lasting battery for entertainment

The battery life test results are also convincing, so nothing will interfere with long-term mobile use of the device: in pure video playback mode, the battery lasted about 9 hours - almost double that of Microsoft's Surface Book.

If the user surfs the web, the battery will only last 6 hours of continuous use. The reason is simple: an OLED display requires more power to display white internet pages. For fully charged TabPro S will take just over 3 hours. Even under full load, the computer does not make noise because there is no fan used.

Too few connectors

The TabPro S's big drawback is its lack of interfaces: the tablet only has a headphone jack and one USB Type-C port. HDMI or another USB port, for example, to connect a mouse, is useless to look for. A “multi-port” adapter can come to the rescue, but the original version of the accessory costs more than 6,000 rubles (80 euros), which is not very cheap. Instead, there is NFC and Bluetooth 4.1 on board for data transfer.

Galaxy TabPro S: coming soon to Russia

The price for the TabPro S in Russia has not yet been announced, but in Europe the tablet is already sold with a price tag of 999 euros (78,800 rubles) for the simplest configuration, with a keyboard dock included in the package. This is a very fair price for a tablet manufactured by Samsung with the Windows 10 operating system, which takes high place in our rating due to high power, super display and durable battery.

Samsung Galaxy TabPro S: an alternative

Despite Samsung's excellent attempt to become a leader in this segment, Microsoft is still slightly ahead in the 2-in-1 tablet space. You can get a well-equipped Microsoft Surface Pro 4 for 60,000–100,000 rubles. Surface Pro 4 is powered by an Intel Core i5-6300U processor based on the Skylake architecture. The large and bright display also deserves attention. In addition to everything, there is such a practical device for entering information as a stylus.

Samsung has unveiled a Windows 10 tablet called the Galaxy Book, which is aimed at professionals. Two versions will appear on the market: a 10-6-inch with LCD TFT display and a 12-inch with sAMOLED. They have a resolution of 1920x1280 and 2160x1440 pixels, respectively, and are also equipped with 2.6 GHz Intel Core M3 and 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5 processors.

The latter still supports HDR technology, but they can both work in fourth-generation networks at Cat.6 speeds. The 10.6-inch version is equipped with 4 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of eMMC memory, a memory card slot, USB Type-C and a 30.4-watt battery with support fast charging.

The 12-inch model includes 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB SSD, or 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB SSD. The main camera has a 13-megapixel sensor, and the additional one on the front panel has a 5-megapixel sensor. There are already 2 here USB port Type-C, same slot for microSD card and more powerful battery- 39.04 watts with adaptive charging.

Galaxy Book 10.6 has only one 5-megapixel camera, which is located on the front above the screen. One way or another, both versions of the tablets can work with 4K video and are equipped with applications Samsung Notes, contextual commands, like on Note and Samsung Flow devices. Samsung's new Windows devices boast a full-fledged package Microsoft Office, a physical keyboard, and an S Pen stylus.

Despite the unsuccessful Windows start 8 in 2012 and tablets based on it, today the Windows tablet market is growing slowly but surely. Microsoft was finally able to find what the market needed by offering good Surface Pro devices. It’s not for nothing that Samsung decided to return to Windows-based products. And what a product! This is a whole tablet on Windows 10 and with a keyboard included, which at the same time received an excellent Super screen AMOLED.

The new product was called Samsung Galaxy TabPro S and was first shown in January at CES 2016 in Las Vegas. I must say, the Korean company chose an unusual name for the new tablet. More precisely, its inclusion in the Galaxy line looks atypical - from time immemorial there have only been Android devices here. The ATIV series was once intended for Windows, which was later closed. And now the Galaxy TabPro S.

The tablet really stands out, primarily for its AMOLED screen. In many respects, it is similar to the Surface Pro 4, but Samsung decided to use energy-efficient Intel Core M processors in it, and left all wired communications to the USB Type-C connector. The device turned out to be unusual with, so to speak, its own face and some kind of “trick”. Let's get to know him in more detail.

Galaxy TabPro S video review

At the beginning of the article, as always, I suggest you look at the tablet in the video - this way you can get a much better idea about it:

Design

In 2015 and 2016 years Samsung began to actively do beautiful smartphones and I tried to transfer some of this experience to tablets. However, if you remember, the company had stylish products on Windows before. Take, for example, all so graceful, curved and the list goes on.

What can you say about the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S? But, actually, nothing - on the front side it’s just a huge 12-inch screen with a wide frame and rounded corners. If you look at the device solely as a tablet, then it really looks huge, unusually large and bulky.

On the other hand, why be surprised? Samsung, with the help of the Galaxy TabPro S, decided to kill two birds with one stone: first of all, the aforementioned Microsoft Surface Pro 4, and secondly, Apple iPad Pro 12.9". Yes, yes, the second one is also a competitor, albeit not so obvious.

It should be noted that the tablet from Samsung looks no worse than both of the listed rivals: serious, solid and of high quality. At first glance it is clear that it is not cheap.

The back cover looks "immense and spacious" - there only the camera lens brings at least some variety. It itself is black, covered with matte paint. The material used is a thin and durable alloy. But the side ends feel much more solid in terms of material - they pleasantly cool the hand, and their color is more “metallic”. And guess what? It still happens white Galaxy TabPro S white! He looks completely unusual!

But the image component does not end with color. Are you aware that the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S is thinner than the listed competitors? 6.3 mm is a very small value in itself, and with a 12" diagonal the tablet turns out to be visually very thin! For comparison: Surface Pro 4 has a thickness of 8.45 mm, and iPad Pro 12.9" - 6.9 mm. Let's compare the weight to the heap: 693 grams for Samsung versus 766 grams for Microsoft (with a Core m3 processor) and 723 grams for Apple ( Wi-Fi version+ LTE).

Somehow, quite unexpectedly, Samsung decided to hit the professional tablet market. Of course, there are many more aspects to consider regarding the Galaxy TabPro S, but so far it looks very good: thin, relatively light, well-built, metal body. Let's look further, what's wrong with him?

Connectors and controls

As a rule, there are no more connectors and buttons on a tablet than on a smartphone. But the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S is a Windows device, and such devices are usually “stuffed” to the fullest. Take, for example, the same Surface Pro 4 - it has a full-size USB 3.0 connector, a card slot microSD memory, 3.5 mm mini-jack for headphones and headsets, Mini DisplayPort. But the South Korean product looks much more modest in this regard - it’s not for nothing that it’s so thin.

Only the front camera is placed above the screen and LED indicator about her work.

At the back, the only thing of interest is the slightly protruding rear camera lens. It would seem like such a huge thing, but the lens “sticks out”. But don't forget about the thin body. And it doesn’t interfere at all.

At the bottom there are interface contacts for connecting a keyboard.

At the top you can see a lot more: a power button, a volume rocker, two microphones and small plastic antenna inserts. In this case, only Wi-Fi.

On the left there is another button, which is misleading - it is located very close to the power button, and therefore it is completely unclear what needs to be pressed in order to turn on the tablet. Moreover, if it is completely turned off, the button must be held for several seconds. So you hold the wrong button, curse, and with much greater ferocity you begin to press the second one.

Meanwhile, this button is needed to... surprise surprise, bring up the Start menu or the Start screen - a sort of Home button. There is also a speaker next to it.

All connectors are located at the bottom of the right side: a 3.5 mm mini-jack for headphones or a headset, and the second is USB Type-C, and in correct version USB 3.1, that is, providing transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps.

Cool? Not really. I immediately remember the Apple MacBook, the 12-inch one with exactly the same set of ports. Remember how you have to dodge there? Let me remind you: the kit includes only a charging cable, while to connect the rest of the peripherals you will have to use a separate adapter, purchased separately for a lot of money. I don’t know how much Samsung will value such an accessory, but it would be better to include it entirely in the standard package – and without that, there is a need to carry around additional “bells and whistles”. Our tablet was in a pre-sale version, so I won’t judge the retail version based on its configuration.

There is also a second speaker on the right and... did you notice what's missing? That's right, a memory card compartment! The “professional” Galaxy TabPro S does not have microSD support! By God, it’s as if Samsung intends to compete not with the iPad Pro, but with the MacBook. If this is really the case, then write about it in the comments - it will not be superfluous.

Scope of delivery

It’s not possible to fully evaluate the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S’s equipment now, since the tablet was tested in a featureless white box. However, in addition to the device itself, there was something inside it.

It’s not difficult to guess that this is a charger and a USB cable. Charging, it should be noted, is twice as much as a regular “smartphone”. Or “tablet”, if you take a typical Android tablet. This is understandable - after all, there’s a laptop here in five minutes, and there’s also a keyboard included. But more on that in the next section, but for now I’ll pay attention to the USB cable. On the one hand, it has a typical “plug,” the so-called USB Type-A, and on the other, the same USB Type-C from USB 3.1. The cable is branded and of high quality, but at the same time it is still a certain rarity.

Tablet with keyboard on Windows 10

On the one hand, the keyboard seems to be included in the package, but on the other hand, the tablet is initially wrapped in it. In general, Samsung is promoting the Galaxy TabPro S in every possible way as a product in which the keyboard is an integral part. It goes on sale only with it. In the future, they may introduce a cheaper version without a keyboard, but that is not the case for now.

The keyboard has one “side” property - it is also a case for the Galaxy TabPro S. It covers the device on both sides.

The back of the cover is easily recognizable - the camera appears here, and at the same time two folds are visible.

The folds are needed in order to install the tablet in a “laptop” position. This is done very easily, literally with one movement of the hand. Then the magnets find each other and work can begin. In 2015, a tablet passed through our hands, also with a complete keyboard. And here the transformation is much more complicated - the author constantly did it incorrectly, there was no talk of any intuitiveness. Here the situation is much better. But if you still can't figure it out, we suggest watching our short video about the Galaxy TabPro S keyboard:

Another indisputable advantage of the keyboard is its rigid stand. The mentioned Prestigio was completely impossible to use on the lap - the tablet simply fell through. This doesn't happen with the Galaxy TabPro S. Of course, there is some instability, yet this is not a typical laptop, but it still holds up well on your lap. That is, you can take the tablet with you on the road without any problems - it can potentially replace a laptop.

Now let's look at the layout. We got the tablet from the “Americans” - without the Cyrillic alphabet on the keys. But it doesn’t matter, now it’s important to evaluate their size and ease of use. And here everything is just fine. After all, this is a 12-inch device, which means the keys can be made to a convenient size, and without cutting down the layout itself.

Two large, long ones attract attention; there is a good pointer block. In general, everything is like a decent laptop.

Five contacts are visible above the keyboard. They are connected to the tablet, after which the keyboard starts working.

The touchpad is small, but there's nothing you can do about it – space is really limited. Here it is purely nominal, but in principle it is convenient to use. Again I remember the most terrible touchpad Prestigio tablet and it cannot be compared with this one. There are right and left mouse clicks here, and the surface is smooth, well responsive to finger movements.

From an ergonomic point of view, the keyboard for the Galaxy TabPro S is well made. In addition to its main function, it also serves as a cover for the tablet. The layout itself is convenient and, in general, when unfolded, the device resembles a full-fledged laptop. It's a pity, of course, that the keyboard doesn't have additional battery or connectors, but this is a trade-off for low thickness and weight savings.

Screen

The screen has long been main feature mobile devices Samsung. The company hits this spot because it has the most advanced technology. It de facto has no worthy competitors here, and this is clearly evident from the Galaxy TabPro S. At MWC 2016 in Barcelona, Huawei announced the MateBook tablet, which is almost two peas in a pod similar to the Galaxy TabPro S. Not in the literal sense, but in terms of positioning: this is the same 12-inch tablet with a Windows 10 keyboard. But do you know what their main difference is? Yes, yes, on the screen.

Don't think, the Huawei device received excellent display, but this is an LCD matrix in any case. As for Samsung, it offers an OLED screen in the Super AMOLED modification, and in many respects there is nothing better on the market. I wouldn’t be surprised if the South Korean company soon fully returns to the laptop market, to its premium segment, where it will offer large AMOLED displays. And the 12-inch matrix is used for the first time in the Galaxy TabPro S.

The tablet gets the following advantages from such a screen: less thickness, less energy consumption, excellent color rendering, wide viewing angles, good brightness, “natural” black color. And this is all subjective, so to speak “by eye”. The display is truly excellent and even somewhat unusual. So, I’m not at all used to seeing normal black color on a device with Windows - let me remind you that on LCD matrices it is slightly grayish due to the peculiarities of the technology.

The screen resolution of the Galaxy TabPro S was made high, but it doesn’t set any records. It's about about the value of 2160x1440 pixels, that is, the same as the Surface Pro 4 and Huawei MateBook. With a 12-inch diagonal, this provides a good pixel density of 216 ppi. The aspect ratio turned out to be quite unusual: 3:2. It's like the pictures from SLR cameras. This isn't quite as boxy as the iPad's 4:3 ratio, but it's also not as elongated as most 16:9 displays. Microsoft for some reason considered this option successful and began to use it since the time of Surface Pro 3. Now this experience has been repeated by Samsung and Huawei.

Meanwhile, the maximum screen brightness was measured at 331.1 cd/m2, which is not that much. Although, again, it depends on what you compare it with. For an average tablet with a diagonal of 7-8" this result is slightly below average, and for a full-fledged laptop it is noticeably higher. Perhaps the main thing here is to decide whether this is enough for a typical using Samsung Galaxy TabPro S or not. And the answer is yes. He may go somewhat blind in the sun, but it’s strange to imagine a person who will carry a heavy 700-gram 12-inch tablet like a phone. But the black brightness, as befits an OLED display, is zero, which gives it amazing depth and the highest contrast.

The color gamut of the screen did not disappoint either - it noticeably exceeds the sRGB space and approaches Adobe RGB, just like professional monitors. However, what is “aerobatics” for LCDs is the norm for AMOLED, as we have seen more than once when testing numerous smartphones with Super AMOLED matrices. In general, in terms of color rendering samsung device I didn't make a mistake either.

The color temperature turned out to be a little too high, as is usually the case with all screens. The excess reaches 1500K, which is not so little. Because of this, the picture looks somewhat cold, which is further enhanced by the blue-green standard background of Windows 10.

The gamma curve looks good. It passes slightly below the reference curve 2.2, which means a slight darkening of the image, but this is not visible to the eye.

Another interesting characteristic of the screen is the uniformity of illumination. One might think that AMOLED is better than LCD, but this is not the case. As you can see, the upper right corner is noticeably darker than the lower left. The brightness difference is 40-50 cd/m2, which in general is not really visible.

With uniformity color temperature the situation is better. It's not perfect, but it's noticeably smoother. The difference does not exceed 400K, which is quite a bit in absolute numbers, which means it is also invisible to the eye.

We couldn't find anything interesting in the screen settings. Although, actually, what can you look for here if this is regular Windows 10, where nothing can be customized in the system parameters?

However, no one forbids managing equipment through your own software. The Galaxy Settings application was created especially for this, where there is an AMOLED section. Inside there was a screen profile switch: adaptive, cinema, photo and main. Everything is exactly the same as on Samsung smartphones. However, changing these profiles, nothing happened to the display. Probably, we had to deal with an unfinished beta version of the application - at the time of testing, the tablet had not yet gone on sale.

Despite certain roughnesses, Galaxy screen The TabPro S was truly excellent: sharp, with good color reproduction, deep blacks and wide viewing angles. It's very nice that OLED technology is gradually coming to larger devices.

Camera

It would seem, why does a huge tablet, almost a laptop, need two cameras? No, really, it’s really hard to wear it, and even more so to take it off. But no, the Galaxy TabPro S offers two cameras of the same (!) 5 MP resolution: one on the front and the other on the back.

The control application turned out to be both simple and with a certain set of advanced parameters. So here you can adjust the white balance, ISO sensitivity, and take timer shots.

There are few settings, especially for photos. You can only select the aspect ratio of the frame, on which the shooting resolution actually depends. The maximum for both cameras is achieved at a ratio of 4:3.

The quality of the shooting is generally good. Of course, before Samsung smartphones a large Windows tablet is a long way off, but no one expects a breakthrough from it. And yet, the pictures come out quite well, especially if there is enough light around. The white balance is not affected, there is no flare, and there is not even a lot of noise.

There is a separate mode for shooting video. White balance adjustment is also available here, and in the settings you can select the resolution. I think that there is no point in setting it below the maximum Full HD.

The video looks good, on par with the photos. The picture has high clarity, correct colors and overall it looks very natural.

The front camera, although it has the same 5 MP resolution, takes worse pictures and this is immediately visible. Photos have poorer clarity and more noise. Although for a facial sensor the quality is at the level of a decent smartphone.

Video from front camera It is also captured in Full HD resolution and, it should be noted, is almost indistinguishable from what can be obtained from the main camera.

For Windows tablets, the camera is not their strong point, and therefore, we can say that the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S was a pleasant surprise in this regard. For its category of devices, it shoots very well.

Specifications Galaxy TabPro S

Samsung Galaxy TabPro S is not presented in a single version. And I'm not talking about color, but characteristics. So the younger version labeled SM-W700 came into my hands. More advanced options offer twice the capacity SSD, as well as the ability to work in an LTE network with support for standards up to LTE Cat.6.

As you can see, the listed versions of the tablet are not very better than that which I had to deal with. In terms of speed, everything is identical, although the 256 GB SSD is still nicer, especially in full-fledged Windows 10. At the same time, the amount of RAM is fixed - the 8 GB option is not available, although the Surface Pro 4 can be bought even with 16 (!) GB of RAM.

The processor inside the Galaxy TabPro S is Core m3-6Y30. It has two full 64-bit x86 Skylake cores, operating at 0.9 GHz, but capable of overclocking to 2.2 GHz. At the same time, there is support for Hyper-Threading technology, so the chip can execute up to four threads simultaneously. The processor is manufactured using a 14 nm process technology and has a heat dissipation of 4.5 W.

Perhaps we need to explain this whole “explosion of terms” in more detail. in simple language. Compared to typical Android and iOS tablets, which use different ARM processors and inexpensive Intel Atom, a full-fledged, albeit low-frequency, Core m3, still works much better. In theory, it will be able to outperform any such chip, including the Apple A9X, which is inside the iPad Pro. I will say more - Core M is installed in 12-inch Apple laptops MacBook! And the funniest thing is that the Surface Pro 4 can also use Core m3 inside, but Microsoft is pushing harder on modifications with much more powerful Core i5 and even Core i7. It’s not for nothing that the “surface” is so thicker and heavier - it is designed for much stronger processors.

Now the video card is Intel HD Graphics 515. Compared to the average laptop, it is, of course, weak, but for a tablet it is far from the worst option. Its performance is somewhere on the level of the average mobile accelerator of 2012, for example, AMD Radeon 7570M. Inside the HD Graphics 515 there are 24 actuators operating at frequencies from 300 to 850 MHz, depending on the load. At the same time, graphics APIs OpenGL 4.4 and DirectX 12 are supported. Support for 4K resolution with a frame rate of up to 60 Hz is also announced. The interfaces are compatible with DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 1.4.

WITH RAM It didn’t turn out as cool as it theoretically could have. It has 4 GB installed and there are no other options. In principle, for relatively simple work, for which the tablet is designed, this is enough. But let me remind you that the Surface Pro 4 can be purchased in versions with 8 and 16 GB of RAM. In addition, up to 16 GB of RAM is supported without question by the Core m3 processor. By the way, it has two memory channels that were used, which is nice. True, Samsung installed DDR3-800 modules, although the same processor pushes their frequency up to 1866 MHz. Presumably, this was done more for energy reasons than for the sake of penny savings.

A 128 GB SSD is not as cool as it might seem. Of course, this is a lot for an Android device, but in a full-fledged Windows 10 the situation is somewhat different, especially if you use the Galaxy TabPro S as a particularly compact laptop option. Programs can quickly clutter up all the available space, and if you help them with movies... In general, 256 GB will really not be superfluous, believe me. Moreover, the Surface Pro 4 comes to mind again, where, at the request of the client, there can be up to 1 TB free space and there is support for memory cards!

The tablet's communication capabilities look typical. There is support for the fastest Wi-Fi standard 802.11ac, as well as Bluetooth 4.1. The presence of an NFC module was a surprise - it will be useful for someone. Interfaces can also be expanded using a USB port, if you connect a USB hub to it, or by purchasing a version of the device with a 4G module.

All in all, Samsung specifications The Galaxy TabPro S looks noticeably simpler compared to the Surface Pro 4, although it is far from inexpensive Windows tablets. It's more like a low-power laptop - obviously, it's positioned in this category.

Performance testing

I began to measure the performance of the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S tablet relative to one of its main competitors - the Microsoft Surface Pro 4. In general, you don’t have to be a genius to understand who will win. But the gap between the devices is still interesting.

You know, the difference is not very big. Inside the Microsoft tablet there was an Intel Core i5-6300U processor, which in theory should be noticeably faster, but there is no serious lead in the PCMark 8 system-wide test.

When measuring “pure” computing power, the Galaxy TabPro S somehow very suddenly found itself even behind the iPad Pro with its A9X ARM chip. Apparently it had an effect low frequency Core m3-6Y30. Although it is capable of accelerating to 2.2 GHz, this is only temporary if there is external power, unless it itself is very hot. And so the nominal frequency of this processor– only 0.9 GHz.

The graphics component of the Samsung tablet is good, but relative to the de facto laptop Core processor i5 is still rather weak. Although they have the same number of pipelines, the operating frequency of the video core is lower. On the other hand, the Galaxy TabPro S can easily handle typical games that are available on Android. But there is a nuance here - the tablet runs on regular Windows 10, where games require a noticeably stronger video card, and are generally not aimed at touch control. You need to understand that if you can play on a Windows tablet, it will be simple casual games that will work without any questions.

And here is the downside of a less powerful processor - good autonomy. The Galaxy TabPro S, of course, is noticeably not up to par with Android tablets, but still much better than the Surface Pro 4. Let me remind you at the same time that the Samsung device is even thinner and lighter.

Subjectively, the performance of the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S is sufficient. If you perceive it as a special version of an ultra-compact laptop, where you don’t have to do very serious calculations, then there is no discomfort when working with the tablet. And, let me remind you, as a bonus to the lower operating speed relative to competitors, there is better autonomy.

BY

The main scourge of Android devices Samsung Galaxy TabPro S does not threaten in any form. I'm talking about the so-called fragmentation - the lack of system updates to latest versions. Here we have Windows 10 with all that it implies. More precisely, Windows 10 Professional, although there is also a version with “simple ten”, also known as Windows 10 Core. All updates that will be released for it will be installed on the tablet without any questions.

It also follows that there is simply nothing special to describe. If you are interested, we have everything you need.

We can only note that tablet mode is active here by default, which is logical. But with a keyboard connected, it makes almost no sense.

You can somehow customize Windows 10 - there is complete freedom of action. But no one ever does this - the standard interface is much better.

Moreover, it is more or less well sharpened and under touch devices, although desktop apps are chock full of small controls.

Samsung has only supplemented the tablet with a couple of proprietary programs, which in theory should improve the experience of using it.

What Galaxy Settings does is clear roughly from its name - these are some additional settings. In fact, there was an option to enable maximum power saving mode when the battery charge is low, as well as the ability to select screen profiles - I wrote about this above in the section about the display. All other sections relate to text: licenses, user manuals, and the like.

Another seemingly proprietary application is Scrap Box. This is something like a touch drawing program, or rather a program for taking notes on screenshots. It can also be useful.

There is a SideSync utility through which you can remotely control your Android tablet or smartphone. Not superfluous, although it can be downloaded separately.

Otherwise, the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S will run any application, be it professional development or content creation tools, or the heaviest 3D games. Of course, not everything will function quickly and beautifully, but it is a fact that they will start.

Conclusion

I liked the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S. Seriously, I want to take the tablet and not give it away. As a replacement for a laptop or ultrabook, it is more than suitable, unless you are rendering two-hour animated films there.

The tablet turned out to be moderately productive, with quite sufficient characteristics. Of course, it’s frustrating to have to fiddle with USB Type-C adapters, but it’s more compact than its analogues, and at the same time it lasts longer on a single charge. I’ll add here a thin body and light weight for a 12-inch screen.

Speaking of the screen, this is clearly the strongest component of the device. I have been waiting for a product on full Windows and with an OLED display for a long time and now it has appeared. Super AMOLED matrices are increasing in size and this is commendable. The screen on the Galaxy TabPro S looks great, it has excellent color reproduction, wide viewing angles, and deep blacks. In general, if the display is of fundamental importance to you, then it makes sense to look towards this Korean tablet.

It remains to add about the attractive design and alloy body. The device looks expensive and solid. I also liked the keyboard: with large keys, thin, protects the case and, most importantly, allows you to place the tablet on your lap. But the lack of the ability to expand memory with microSD cards is depressing. So how much does it cost?

Galaxy TabPro S price

You can buy a Samsung Galaxy TabPro S with a 4G module for 80 thousand rubles. And even then, for now these will be half-gray deliveries. At the beginning of April 2016, the tablet is available only in the USA. I hope he will come to us too.

The situation with Microsoft Surface Pro 4 looks more interesting for now. A tablet version with a similar configuration to the Galaxy TabPro S costs about 60-63 thousand rubles. Moreover, it has a slot for microSD cards. But the device is thicker, heavier, doesn't last as long on battery power, and is sold without a keyboard. But there is an opportunity to purchase any configuration to suit your taste. So the most advanced one with Core i7, 16 GB (!) RAM and 512 GB SSD will cost 160 thousand rubles.

The Apple iPad Pro 12.9" also competes to some extent with the Galaxy TabPro S. In its basic configuration, it costs 62 thousand rubles. Cheap? Undoubtedly. But let's remember that this is a version with 32 GB of memory and without a 4G module. Let’s not forget about the Smart Keyboard, for which they charge 14-15 thousand rubles, and at the same time about the slingshots that are placed everywhere in iOS. Whatever one may say, they are for work. better than Windows nothing has been invented yet.

There are also devices such as the Lenovo Yoga 900 and HP Specter X2, but the first is more of a transformable laptop, and the second is already somewhat outdated. By the way, you can look towards the Microsoft Surface 3 if you need a cheaper option.

Pros:

  • excellent Super AMOLED screen;
  • excellent quality execution;
  • metal case;
  • small thickness;
  • light weight for a device of this type;
  • good autonomy;
  • USB Type-C connector support;
  • keyboard cover included;
  • convenient keyboard layout;
  • good cameras for a tablet;
  • there is NFC support.

Cons:

  • only one USB Type-C interface connector;
  • no slot for microSD memory card;
  • poor placement of the power button relative to the Start button on the ends of the tablet;
  • lower productivity compared to analogues.
