Installing the system on a netbook from a flash drive. How can I reinstall Windows on a netbook or laptop? Preparing and creating a bootable flash drive

For some people, it sounds wild when you explain to them that they can’t install a picture on the desktop using the standard Windows 7 Starter netbook they bought. Yes, you can install a special program that will hang in memory and constantly display the image on the desktop.

After this, many require installing their "native" Windows XP and even offer money. Since the system administrator is a highly moral being who cannot refuse the money offered, you have to take on the job of reinstalling Windows XP on a netbook without a CD-ROM.

Personally, for me, on the moral side, it’s incorrect to install Windows XP on a netbook with a real and valid Windows 7 license, although Starter, but as they say, is the master-master. Squeaking my moral principles and hiding money in my pocket, every time I install Windows XP on clients' netbooks.

I have already installed Windows XP on a large number of netbooks and I can say that, in principle, the algorithm of actions for all of them is the same. For these purposes I use a popular distribution - ZverCD, which for personal purposes I would not use, since it is heavy. And just right for customers, as it makes it easier to find drivers after installation.

What do we need to install Windows XP on a netbook?

To install Windows XP on a netbook we need:
 1. Windows distribution. To find, I think, it will not be difficult for you, since this shit in bulk on the Internet. Take at least ZverCD.
 2. A flash drive or, in a smart way, a USB drive that can record 1GB of information on itself.
 3. Program Wintoflashto be downloaded from here.

The latest WinToFlash program, in turn, can do one thing - create a bootable USB flash drive with WIndows. In our case, with XP.

I would like to say right away that WinToFlash does not work with CD-ROMs and ISO-images. It works with system files of the operating system, that is, if you have an ISO-image of Windows XP, then you need to unzip it with any archiver.

The algorithm for installing Windows XP on a netbook can be described as follows:

How to install Windows 7 on a netbook from a flash drive using UltraISO

Today I would like to talk about how to install windows 7 on a netbook not having an external DVD drive.

We will need only three things. A flash drive of at least 4 GB, an ISO image with Windows 7 and the UltraISO program. Ready? Well then proceed.

Download UltraISO from the official website of the developer and install.

The whole installation comes down to successive button presses "Further". You should not have difficulties, therefore I will omit this moment.

Each time the program starts, a window appears asking you to register UltraISO. Do not wonder. The program is paid and costs $ 29.95, but there is a 30-day trial period, which is enough for us to manage to record the image on a USB flash drive.

Feel free to click on the button "Trial period ..." and use the UltraISO program absolutely free of charge for the next 30 days.

Now proceeds directly to recording the image. Open an ISO image with Windows 7 through the command File Open.

After that, go to the menu and select "Burn Hard Disk Image ...".

In field "Disk Driver" indicate the flash media on which the image will be recorded. In line "Recording Method:" choose "USB HDD" and click on the button "Record".

After you click on the button "Record", a window appears with a warning that the recording process will erase all the information on the flash drive. Check if there is anything important on the flash drive and only after that press the button "Yes".

The recording process has begun.

It remains only to wait a bit. The recording time directly depends on the speed of your flash drive and the overall speed of the computer.

Have you waited? Excellent. A bootable USB flash drive is created, and now you can install Windows 7 on a netbook.

We connect the USB flash drive to the netbook, reboot and at the very beginning of the boot press F12 (or F10 depending on the BIOS version) and select boot from USB.

Well, now just install Windows, just as you would when installing from a CD \\ DVD.

This method of creating a bootable USB flash drive with Windows 7 is far from the only, but probably the fastest and easiest. I will talk about other methods in the following notes.

Hope you know now how to install windows 7 on a netbook from a flash drive

Material taken from the site:

In this article we will tell you how install windows 7 from a USB flash drive. The instruction is intended primarily for a novice computer user. Installing the operating system from a flash drive is necessary mainly for computers that do not have a DVD drive. For example, netbooks do not have an optical drive.

Before you start installing Windows 7 on a netbook, you need to save all the important files from drive “C”. Do not forget that after installing the new system, all your documents and files will be deleted both from the My Documents folder and from the Desktop. All installed programs will also disappear. Also, before installing a new Windows system, we strongly recommend that you download the drivers for your computer, laptop or netbook, and save them on the “D” drive or other storage medium.

Installing Windows 7 on a netbook can be divided into 3 stages:

 • Preparing a USB flash drive;
 • BIOS settings for loading media;
 • Directly install the system.

Flash drive preparation

We decided to describe three different types of installing Windows from a flash drive.

1 way

To install the system you need:

 • Distribution with the operating system Microsoft Windows 7.
 • UltraISO program.
 • A USB flash drive of 4 GB or more.

First you need to copy the Windows 7 system image in .iso format to the computer disk. Then download and install UltraISO programs.

Having launched the UltraISO program, you need to open the .iso distribution image. To do this, click the menu File - Open ...:

We indicate the place where the image of the previously downloaded operating system is located. Next, go to the Startup menu and select Burn hard disk image.

After that, insert your flash drive into a laptop or computer. Click the Format button. Select the type of file system and click Start. After the formatting process is completed, click on the Save button.

That's all, recording the image to the USB flash drive is completed.

2 way

As in method 1, you need a Windows 7 distribution kit and a 4GB flash drive.
To get started, you need to insert a USB flash drive into the USB port of your computer and run the Command Prompt (Win + R shortcut).

Next, type clean and press Enter. Enter the create partition primary command, and then press the Enter button. To select the 1st partition, you need to enter select partition 1 on the command line and press Enter. Next, you should enter the active command and press Enter again.

Type format fs = NTFS and press Enter. The partition formatting process starts. Next, you need to assign a letter to your flash drive with the command assign letter = Z. Press Enter. After that, a USB flash drive will appear on your system. Close Command Prompt by typing Exit.

Now copy all the files from the disk with the OS distribution to your USB flash drive. (you can also unzip the .iso image in the UltraISO program). Click on the Eject button and select your flash drive. Done, the image is recorded on a USB flash drive.

3 way

With the preparation of the USB-flash drive finished.

BIOS and boot from flash drive

We insert the USB flash drive with the recorded system into your computer, laptop or netbook and reboot. When you start the computer, you must enter the BIOS. To do this, you need to press a specific key. Often when loading, it is indicated at the bottom which key to press. It can be keys Del, F2, Esc and others.

After you enter the BIOS, you need to find the item to configure the boot order of the drives. Often these settings are in the BOOT tab. Set your USB flash drive to first place in the list. Flash drives are usually signed in BIOS as USB-HDD.

Next, you need to save your settings and exit the BIOS of your computer. To do this, find the item called Save and Exit Setup. After you click on this item, your computer should restart. Now you can proceed directly to installing the OS itself.

OS installation

Installing Windows 7 from a USB stick in the future is no different from installing from a DVD drive. This process is already described in detail in the article: in the third paragraph “ Install Windows 7". After installing the system, you need to install drivers for your computerlaptop or netbook and install the necessary programs.

Installation USB drivers, so the user will have to create such a USB flash drive on their own. However, this is nothing complicated.

In the manner described in the article, you can install Windows of different versions: XP, Vista, 7, 8. For this you need a flash drive with a memory capacity of more than 1 gigabyte, an image file of the desired operating system (the extension of such files is .iso) and the UltraISO utility (link to free utility download attached to the article).

The procedure for creating a bootable flash drive

1. Download UltraISO utility from the official website of developers, install and open it.

2. Open the "Self-loading" tab -> "Burn hard disk image".

3. In the window that appears, select the USB drive that you want to install, then select the image file with the operating system and make sure that the USB-HDD + recording method is set.

4. Click on the "Record" button and wait for the end of the process.

The procedure for installing on a netbook through My computer

4. In the window that appears, select the Windows installation.

5. After that, the standard installation of the operating system will begin. Follow the on-screen instructions and wait for the installation process to complete. During the installation, your computer may restart several times. As soon as you see a picture with the new Windows logo at boot, this will mean that the installation has, in principle, completed successfully.

The disadvantage of this installation method is that you cannot format the disk on which the running operating system of the old version is installed. If this option does not suit you, use the following method.

The procedure for installing on a netbook via BIOS

As in the previous method, before starting the installation, back up the data.

1. Insert the installation flash drive into the netbook.

2. Restart your computer and enter the BIOS.

To enter the BIOS, it is necessary to boot the computer when the first graphic images appear on the screen, press the DEL button on the keyboard until the settings screen appears. This is the BIOS.

3. If the BIOS has a blue background, locate the Advanced BIOS Features section on the left side, use the arrows on the keyboard to position the pointer and press Enter. A window will appear with your computer’s boot options. Put in the First Boot Device - USB-HDD, Second Boot Device - CDROM, Third Boot Device - Hard Disk or HDD-0.

4. If the BIOS has a gray background, go to the Boot tab, then use the keyboard arrows to point to Boot Device Priority and press Enter. The device boot order appears on the computer. Change the order so that USB is first on the list, CD / DVD Disk is second, Hard Disk is third.

5. After setting the desired order, press F10 and Enter.

At this stage, the reader will specify a boot order in which the flash drive is loaded first, then the drive, and then the hard drive. In the future, such an order is not necessary to return to its previous state.

6. After that, the computer will restart, then the screen will display Press any key to boot from CD or DVD. The reader should press any button, and the new version of "" with a previously inserted flash drive will begin to be installed.

7. Follow the on-screen instructions of the Windows installer and wait for the installation process to complete. During the installation, your computer may restart several times. As soon as you see a picture with the new Windows logo at boot, this will mean that the installation has, in principle, completed successfully.

Installing Windows on a netbook is practically no different from a full installation for stationary machines or laptops. Before moving on to the main topic of this post, you need to analyze the capabilities of this device. What is this device, where did it come from? Although the last question is not important to us, everyone should know about the capabilities of such a machine.

In general, now we are talking about a kind of "subnotebook", endowed with modest performance. Players can play old games, but carefully, and even then, in backward games, like Diablo. The diagonal of the screens is usually from 7 to 12 inches. The main advantages of netbooks are small dimensions, low power consumption, and cost, which is the most powerful argument. By the way, these devices are deprived of optical drives, so users only have to use USB ports.

A selection of OSes.

Installing Windows on a netbook begins with the fact that you need to get acquainted with the characteristics of your device. Often, manufacturers give their products a nasty quality - users can use only one OS. For example, the latest models could be “sharpened” under Windows 8, so the owners of such instances will have to change their preferences. And the transition to version 7 or even XP is no longer possible. Such things ... More precisely, it is possible, but you will not find a driver for 7 and especially for XP on the official site for your netbook, and accordingly it will be in a half-working state .. Who needs this?

We put Windows on a netbook.

So, we have already noted the installation of Windows on a netbook will be done using a USB port. You will need to arm yourself with a USB flash drive, a hard drive with a USB interface or a special drive that connects to the same port. USB drive is a good solution that will serve you faithfully even after the main workwhich we are discussing now.

First of all, you need to configure the system boot from the port where the USB flash drive with the selected version is connected. This is done through the BIOS, which is included in just a couple of movements. For more information on how to start a computer from any drive, see

At the next stage, the decisive phase begins. As usual, the machine will restart several times, the system will prompt you to select a language, configure the layout of the hard drive, set the date or time, enter the password for the already selected user name. There is nothing complicated here. If installing Windows on a netbook is a problem, I suggest you read a couple of previous posts:

Conclusion

At this, your heroic deeds end. In this work, everything is quite simple, but for mobility, you have to pay some price. Last tip - download drivers for your netbook in advance, since, most likely, after installing the driver on WIFI or the network card, they won’t stand, so you won’t be able to steal to the Internet, and without the Internet you won’t download and put the drivers on WIFI and the network card)))) A vicious circle is obtained!
