The mozilla thunderbird email client is a free program with support for the Russian language, which will make working with email a simple and understandable task. In the current digital age, even the most ordinary user receives so many different emails per day that they can’t do without a special assistant to process them.

This is especially true if you have to check several mailboxes at once (for example, if you have mail on Rambler, Yandex, Gmail and other popular services). Thunderbird is a very thoughtful email client, it can be downloaded for free from the official website or from our resource (the portable version is also available - portable edition).

The program can significantly reduce the time for filtering letters and help you not to miss an important message for you, which can often be deleted along with spam.

The program can be in the background for a long time and not delay the precious resources of the computer, and Internet traffic is often consumed exclusively in moderation. Flexible mozilla thunderbird mail settings system in Russian It is designed for the average user who will not engage in masochism in order to understand how to configure it. The interface is so simple that any average PC owner can configure this email client for their tasks - to make the program more convenient not only externally, but also to install convenient add-ons (plugins).

It’s nice when such a useful and effective email client as mozilla thunderbird can be downloaded for free in Russian. This allows you to get rid of many problems associated with setting up an interface that is already clear and simple, even for a novice user.

How to set up mozilla thunderbird mail

Mozilla Thunderbird is a useful helper when working with a large number of emails and newsletters. When registering an account, the user chooses exactly where the received letters and documents attached to them will be stored: on his personal personal computer or on an available Internet resource.

If you prefer to leave the delivered correspondence on your hard drive, then you will have to specify the specific size of the folder into which they will be downloaded. With this method of storing information, the user has constant access to all letters and files already received, even if the computer temporarily does not have an Internet connection - which is more than convenient. In this case, the drawback may be a possible failure of the hard drive, so we recommend that you back up the archive of letters from time to time and export the settings. Export settings to mozilla thunderbird  allows you to simplify the new installation and further fitting the parameters of the mail client to those made earlier.

The program also takes care of protecting all user correspondence sent over insecure communication channels. The client uses such modern encryption algorithms as SSL / TLS, while working with mail is carried out via POP, IMAP and others. For example, not so long ago, the Yandex mail service sent notifications to its users that they would update their email programs. This applied to many email clients, but not to Tunderbird, because his safety was always at a high level.

Creating a signature in mozilla thunderbird is also easy.  To do this, you can use the built-in tools and PGP public key encryption system. All these features are built into the program, so no add-ons will have to be installed.

It should be noted that a lot of attention has also been paid to working with spam. Correspondence of this kind is stored in a separate folder so that the user can independently decide what to do with a particular letter of an advertising nature.

As we noted earlier, the email client allows you to work with multiple e-mail accounts at once. The only thing that needs to be done is to add each of them in turn to the program. After these manipulations, the mailer will constantly check mail (the interval for checking letters can be configured) and display appropriate notifications.

For more successful work with new letters, the mail client uses a special filter system, which, if configured correctly, will reduce the time spent checking such letters.

Special advantage free mozilla thunderbird  Before its competitors (including paid ones), you can name the available functionality for exchanging instant messages via the Internet (for example, using Google Chat Hangout or other similar systems). In addition, the program works on all popular platforms: Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, so we recommend downloading this wonderful application for free.

Which includes a functional email client - this is a solution for business people in the corporate sector, then the Mozilla Thunderbird mailer is perhaps the most ideal option for convenient work with e-mail for ordinary users. For ordinary users, but actively using email in everyday life. Convenient, minimal in terms of consumption of system resources, with automatic setup of email accounts, flexible and customizable - Mozilla Thunderbird will bring true comfort to work with multiple email accounts.

Mozilla Thunderbird is a functional mailer that supports IMAP and POP and HTML email protocols, as well as RSS feeds, newsgroups and chats (personal correspondence) of IRC, Twitter, Facebook, Google Talk accounts. As for the latter functionality, this, alas, is not the most popular communication services for the Runet, for example, there are no popular social networks - VKontakte and Odnoklassniki. Nevertheless, the idea itself is good - to implement in the mailer also personal correspondence from social networks and various services for communication between people.

Among the advantages of Mozilla Thunderbird - the efficiency of the program, security when working with e-mail, a simple interface with a clear and understandable organization. Mozilla Thunderbird, like the browser, is an absolutely free cross-platform software product. The mail client can be downloaded from its official website.

Adding a Mail Account

The first thing we see after launching Mozilla Thunderbird is a mailer window with options for adding email accounts and other components supported by the program. Click "Email" to add your inbox to the software client.

If this is your first time adding an email account to your desktop mailer, be sure to check if mail access via the IMAP and POP protocols is active in the mail service account settings.

And in the Mozilla Thunderbird mailer, we’ll see the welcome window for setting up an email account. Moreover, if someone does not yet have an email account or needs a multi-account, Mozilla Thunderbird also offers quick registration of an account on mail services with which the program works - on gandi.net and on hover.com. These are English-language mail services, and far from being the most popular on the Internet, therefore, of course, we will refuse the Mozilla Thunderbird offer. In our case, however, probably, as in most others, there is a mailbox, so feel free to click "Skip this and use my existing mail."

Mozilla Thunderbird will automatically select the optimal connection settings that are available in the program database for most popular mail servers. And in the next window what remains to be done is to select the protocol - IMAP or POP. The first protocol - IMAP - allows you to work with e-mail without downloading it to the local space of a computer device. This is a more popular type of interaction between mail servers and client E-Mail applications, in which the user can have access to mail data both from the mailer and on the site of the mail service anywhere in the world where there is Internet. The POP protocol completely removes all mail from the mail server and transfers it locally to the computer. It can be used in rare cases when it is undesirable to leave mail on the server, at the same time, in some secluded place on the computer or on removable media, emails should be stored.

We select the protocol (in most cases it will be, of course, IMAP) and click "Finish".

If the mailbox data was entered correctly, we will see how Mozilla Thunderbird is quickly replenished with incoming e-mail messages. In a couple of minutes, all letters from the server will be downloaded, and they will be displayed in the mailer window.

Interface

Do not be afraid of the poor, ascetic interface of the mailer, with the help of add-ons (extensions), like the Mozilla Firefox browser, the Mozilla Thunderbird program can also be “dressed up” in a beautiful cover from the number of additions presented in the store. Click on the mailer’s menu and select “Add-ons”.

In the first tab "Get Extras" select "Selected Topics" and click on the link "Show All".

Then select the one you like in the catalog of submitted covers and click the “Add” button to apply it.

And to change the look of the mailer radically, you can apply the so-called full themes to it, which completely transform the program interface into a different style - with a different background color, with different fonts, with different icons. To get into their catalog, in the “Get Extras” tab, select “Other customization methods” and click on the “Show all full topics” link.

We get into the catalog of full topics and select the one that interests.

So, lovers of dark tones can give Mozilla Thunderbird a techno-style in black.

Fans of positive colors can pick up cute themes in warm colors.

In order not to be distracted by the coloring of the program interface, you can choose neutral themes with readable fonts.

Sorting

Mozilla Thunderbird is an ideal mailer for those who like to collect various junk in their mailbox for years. Displaying the table of letters can be arranged by subject, sender, date of receipt. In addition, the mailer is equipped with an internal search and filters, with the help of which letters can be displayed only unread, only with tags, only with attachments, etc.

Anti-spam and protection

Moreover, the anti-spam filter can be configured separately for each email account.

And also allow the antivirus installed in the system to quarantine suspicious emails.

Sound setting

If you are the leader of E-Mail subscriptions, you often receive mail, in the settings section of the “Basic” mailer you can turn off the sound notification so that it does not annoy you. And you can, on the contrary, set your favorite ringtone (“.wav” format) or any other sound from an existing selection in Windows (C: \\ Windows \\ Media) as an audio alert, changing the predefined system sound.

As you can see, Mozilla Thunderbird has plenty of features to work comfortably with incoming mail. And what about outgoing mail?

Sending letters

To send an email, click on the large noticeable button at the top of the "Create" button. An additional window for creating and sending a message will appear. Here, from the drop-down list, we can choose one or another email account from where the letter will be sent.

Mozilla Thunderbird is equipped with an internal spell checker - this is certainly a huge plus for the program. As for the formatting capabilities of the sent text, the brainchild of Mozilla, of course, is far from the functionality of the full-fledged Word text editor built into Microsoft Outlook 2013, however, the basic capabilities for text formatting are present.

To prevent multiple recipients from writing the same message body, you can use Mozilla Thunderbird templates. Once we compose a universal letter and save it in a mailer as a template.

What will be needed in the future is to open it in the templates folder, enter certain exact data if necessary, enter the recipient and, in fact, press the send button.

Export and import settings

It's a pity that only Mozilla Thunderbird is not equipped with cloud-based data synchronization, as is the case with most browsers. And, alas, there is also no full-fledged function for import / export of settings in the mailer. There is only the option to import settings from other email clients.

But it's not a problem. You can transfer Mozilla Thunderbird settings manually by copying the configured files to a non-system drive or transferring them to the cloud. And then these files will need to be placed in the Mozilla Thunderbird settings folder after installing the program already on the new reinstalled system or on the new device.

Before reinstalling the system or before using Mozilla Thunderbird on another computer device, we’ll go to the mailer’s settings directory:

As a rule, the AppData folder is hidden, and by default it does not appear in Explorer. In order for it and its contents to be visible, you need to set the display options for hidden elements in Windows Explorer.

The contents of the Thunderbird folder are the mailer’s settings files. We copy this folder with all its contents and put it on a non-system drive or send it to the cloud storage on the Internet.

But we install the Mozilla Thunderbird program on a new system or on a new computer, launch it, and immediately close it without connecting email accounts. We follow the same path as before - we expose the display of hidden elements of Windows Explorer and go to the mailer settings folder:

C: \\ Users \\ Username \\ AppData \\ Roaming \\ Thunderbird

Open the Thunderbird folder with the old mailer settings in another explorer window and drag all its contents into the new Thunderbird folder. The files in the destination folder are naturally replaced.

Google Chrome or its clone based on Chromium type or. Therefore, collecting all your mailboxes into a single low-weight mail client, such as Mozilla Thunderbird, so as not to miss an important letter, is a productive move. At the same time, no matter what email service the email is sent from, a functional mailer like Mozilla Thunderbird will offer its own tools for creating it, and you will not need to delve into the particular web interface of each individual account.

Run the program and click the button in the welcome window Skip this and use my existing mail.

In the window Set up your email account  specify the following account settings:

    • Your name is the username (for example, “Alice Little”);

Attention. If you configure receiving mail from a mailbox of the form “login @ yandex. ru », the login is the part of the address before the “@” sign. If you use Yandex.Mail for a domain, you must specify the full address of the mailbox as the login.

Press button Retestto check the correctness of the entered parameters. If the test was successful, click Finish.

If you want to always use Mozilla Thunderbird to send letters, in the window System integration  press the button Set as default.

Right-click the account name and select Options.

If the message "Authentication required" appears, "Sender address rejected: Access denied"  or "Send auth command first", authorization on the Yandex SMTP server is disabled in the mail program settings. Make sure the option is enabled. User Authentication  (for Outlook Express) or SMTP Authentication  (for The Bat!).

If a message appears "Sender address rejected: not owned by auth user", the address from which you are trying to send a letter does not match the one under whose login you are authorized on the SMTP server. Make sure that the mail address specified in the mail program settings is the address whose login is used in the authorization settings for SMTP.

If a message appears "Login failure or POP3 disabled", the mail program cannot access the mailbox using the POP3 protocol. Make sure that the correct password for the mailbox is entered and that POP3 access is enabled in the Mail programs settings section.

If a message appears "Message rejected under suspicion of SPAM", the contents of your message were recognized by Yandex.Mail as spam. To solve the problem, open the Yandex.Mail web interface and send one any letter in the form of a test. So you prove to the system that the letters are not sent by the robot.

Scan your PC for viruses with free antivirus software: CureIt! from Dr.Web and Virus Removal Tool from Kaspersky Lab.

If the mail program does not accept or send letters, check the settings of your mail program, as well as the settings for connecting your computer to the Internet.

If you are using an anti-virus program, firewall or proxy server, disable them and check if the problem is reproduced.

personal data and attach a phone number to your account.

Read the step-by-step instructions for finding missing emails. Before you start, open Yandex.Mail in a new tab.

What message did you receive?

When you delete letters, they fall into the Deleted Items folder and are stored in it for 30 days. During this period, you can restore them:

Go to the Deleted Items folder.

    Highlight the letters you need.

    Click the To folder button.

If more than a month has passed since the moment of their removal, the letters cannot be restored - they were permanently deleted from Yandex.Mail servers.

If there are no letters in the folder where they should be, then most likely they were in another folder, for example, Deleted Items or Spam. If you remember the name or address of the sender, part of the text of the letter or subject - try to search for letters in all folders of your mailbox.

Did you find letters?

You can recover letters:

Go to the folder in which the letters were found.

    Highlight the letters you need.

    Click the To folder button.

Select the folder where you want to move letters from the list, for example, Inbox.

Why letters disappear and how to avoid it

The Deleted letters folder is stored for 30 days, in the Spam folder - 10 days. After that, they will be permanently deleted from Yandex servers. Why letters can get into these folders without your knowledge:

Another user has access to your mailbox

Emails can be deleted by a user who has access to your mailbox: you may have forgotten to end the session after working on someone else’s device. To end the session, click the link in the account menu Exit on all devices. You can also do this on the Passport page - using the link Log out on all computers.

Letters disappear in the mail program

Configured a rule that deletes or moves letters. Letters disappear in the mail program

If you use the mail program and delete letters in it, then they disappear on the service page. This is because your program is configured using IMAP - while the structure of the box on the service is synchronized with the structure of the box in the program. To delete letters only in the program, but leave them in Yandex.Mail, you can configure the program using the POP3 protocol, but we recommend not to do this: letters may not synchronize correctly with the server.

Configured a rule that deletes or moves letters Indicate reliable personal data in Yandex.Passport and attach a phone number to your account. Perhaps our security system found your account suspicious and blocked the mailbox. Most often this happens due to the fact that the phone number is not tied to the mailbox or the fake passport contains a fictitious name and surname. It usually takes a couple of hours to unlock.

If you delete letters in the mail program, and on the Yandex.Mail site they are still in their folders, then most likely your mail program is configured using the POP3 protocol. Due to the nature of the POP3 protocol, letters in the mail program may not synchronize correctly with the server. To work with Yandex.Mail, it is recommended to use the IMAP protocol. To migrate your mail program from POP3 to IMAP, see Migrating from POP3.

If the mail program does not display sent letters, then most likely your mail program is configured using the POP3 protocol. Due to the nature of the POP3 protocol, letters in the mail program may not synchronize correctly with the server. To work with Yandex.Mail, it is recommended to use the IMAP protocol. To migrate your mail program from POP3 to IMAP, see Migrating from POP3.

If you receive errors about an invalid certificate when activating SSL encryption in the mail program, make sure that the mail program and operating system are configured correctly:

Add a certificate to the list of trusted certificates manually (Windows)

Attention. If you are not sure that you can install the certificate yourself, contact a specialist.

To add a certificate to the list of trusted certificates:

Download the certificate. (If the file is opened via a link directly in the browser, click CTRL + S  and save the file to the computer; copying text from a file is not necessary.)
