WinFast 6100M2MA-RS2H developers clearly pursued the goal of making a motherboard with functionality, albeit somewhat conservative, but meeting the needs of the aforementioned group of users. Contrary to the current trend, the number of IDE connectors is only two, while the number of unsoldered SATA connectors has also been reduced to two, and the board itself has a connector for connecting a second COM port in addition to COM and LPT standard on the rear panel.

Once again, examining a motherboard in microATX format, we have practically no reason to even find fault with the design. All peripheral and power connectors are located along the edges of the board, a single jumper (for clearing CMOS) is also easily accessible and has a handle. And even the FDD connector is not locked at the bottom near the extreme PCI slot, but is placed next to the IDE connectors.

During active operation, both bridges of the chipset heat up quite sensitively, while the power converter, despite the absence of any cooling, heats up only in a series of protracted tests with a high load on the processor. It is characteristic that the heating of the radiator of the south bridge is higher than that of the north one, which is especially noticeable in the mode of active network traffic. It is partly even surprising, since we are talking about a model that is as cheap as possible in all other respects: the board has wiring for a FireWire controller installed in a more expensive version labeled 6100M2MA-8EKRS2H, which also has an 8-channel HDA codec and a gigabit network adapter. System monitoring (ITE IT8712F-S, according to BIOS Setup)

  • CPU core, battery voltage, +3.3, +5, +12 V and +12 V Standby;
  • Rotational speed of 2 fans;
  • Temperature of the processor (by the built-in sensor of the processor) and the board (by the built-in sensor of the board);
  • Smart Fan - fully automatic control of the CPU cooler rotation frequency. The control scheme provides for operation at half speed, while the processor temperature does not exceed 55 degrees, then the speed rises abruptly to 75%, and if, nevertheless, the temperature rises and it reaches 65-67 degrees, the speed rises to maximum.

Smart Fan has a fairly logical algorithm, which is especially successful when using an inexpensive or "boxed" cooler, which usually cannot boast of an even noise spectrum over the entire speed range. And, consequently, several fixed speeds while trying to maintain the minimum speed for the most "demanded" temperature range are the best option for automatic control. However, it is possible to manually set the desired rotation speed, up to a complete stop, through the Tiger One utility supplied with the board.

It is very pleasant that Foxconn, at the same time as ECS, thought about introducing Smart Fan modes, which were previously absent not only in the younger ones, but also in the expensive models of these manufacturers.

In response to market needs, Hon Hai Precision Industry, which manufactures components under the Foxconn brand, has introduced a new Foxconn 45CM-S motherboard, the capabilities of which we will share with our readers.

The Foxconn 45CM-S motherboard is made in the microATX form factor (size - 24.4x22.4 cm) on a dark blue textolite, traditional for Foxconn products (Fig. 1). It is based on the Intel 945GС Express system logic set (Intel 945GС Express + ICH7), the capabilities of which are complemented by the ITE IT8718F I / O controller. Although Intel's official specs limit this chipset as a stripped-down version of the popular Intel 945G Express Integrated Chipset (800 MHz FSB and 667 MHz memory bus), Hon Hai Precision Industry the ability to use its hidden reserves. The Foxconn 45CM-S motherboard has an integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 (Intel GMA950) graphics core that fully supports API DirectX 9. It has a 256-bit architecture and runs at 400 MHz. The integrated graphics processor uses system memory for its needs, and thanks to Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT), the amount of video memory is dynamically changed and can reach 192 MB. This graphics solution provides the ability to display images with a maximum resolution of 2048x1536 pixels and a color depth of 32 bits, that is, it meets the requirements for working with the rapidly gaining popularity of HD-video (High Definition) with a resolution of 720 or 1080 horizontal lines. It is also worth noting here that this integrated graphics core supports the so-called High Definition Hardware Motion Compensation technology, which hardware accelerates the playback of MPEG-2 video files, which is especially important when playing back HD video recorded at high bit rates. In addition, with the Advanced Digital Display 2 (ADD2) card installed in the PCI Express x16 slot, the Intel GMA950 graphics core supports an additional graphics interface (this can be DVI or S-Video TV Out). If the capabilities of the graphics core are still not enough, then the user can always install a discrete graphics card into the already mentioned PCI Express x16 slot. By the way, in addition to this slot for installing additional cards that expand the capabilities of the motherboard, there are two more PCI slots and one PCI Express x1 slot.

To organize a network connection, Foxconn 45CM-S provides the user with a Realtek RTL8100C 100 Mbps Ethernet controller. The audio system here is implemented by a combination of the HDA (High Definition Audio) controller integrated into the ICH7 and the Realtek ALC883 audio codec, which provides the ability to reproduce sound in 5.1 format. There are three audio connectors on the output panel of the motherboard for connecting external audio devices.

In addition to the aforementioned audio connectors, the output panel of the board contains two PS / 2 connectors (for connecting a mouse and keyboard), parallel (LPT) and serial (COM) ports, a VGA connector, an RJ-45 connector, and four USB 2.0 ports (Fig. 2).

To build a disk subsystem, the board provides four SATA II ports, one PATA connector supporting up to two ATA 100 or ATAPI devices, and an FDD connector.

The system components are powered by a three-channel VRM unit.

To cool the microcircuits of the north and south bridges, aluminum plate radiators are used. In addition, this motherboard has two connectors for cooling fans: a four-pin processor fan connector (CPU FAN) and a three-pin system fan connector (SYS FAN). By the way, the proprietary Smart Fan Commander technology is used to control the rotation speed of the cooling fans. In addition to it, the Foxconn 45CM-S motherboard supports a number of proprietary functions, including CPU Protection (comprehensive protection of the central processor and system that automatically turns off power when the processor temperature reaches a critical value) and BIOS Rescue (recovery of damaged BIOS code using rescue -disks).

The Foxconn N15235 motherboard was aimed at assembling personal computers of various complexity levels within the LGA775 computing platform. It is responsible for interacting with RAM, peripherals, and the processor. The South Bridge is Intel's ICH7. His area of ​​responsibility includes expansion slots, various drives and a display and control system on the front panel. This motherboard is equipped with LGA775 processor socket. The following CPU models can be installed in its socket:

  • Budget Celerons for creating office systems.
